Ch 2: No peace for those being hunted down

Already the kingdom of Girean has fallen and King Abram is no longer ruler. The only ones to escape were the queen, her daughter, one servant, and 15 soldiers to be their protectors against any life-threatening danger to come their way.

They have traveled for at least two days from the night attack on their home. Now they camp deep in some woods at night resting to go on the next day as this group.

“I can’t believe this is happening to my mother, father… our home…. gone.” the daughter of the king said with tears coming down her face.

“I know my dear, I know, but we can not let what happened to weaken us, we are alive and must stay strong to retake back home do you hear me? Arlene”

The queen told her daughter while holding in her arms at the time a man came up to them.

“I am sorry to disturb my Queen Edith and Princess Arlene, I thought it would be good to tell you that I had placed 5 men on watch around the area to keep a lookout for any sign of King Elwood's men.”

“Captain, do you think that man would keep hunting us down?” Queen Edith asks.

“No doubt about that my queen that men aren't going to give up until two have been caught or killed and I will not allow that to happen as it is my life to prevent that from happening now.”

The Queen was relieved to hear that but still had great worries yet the woman had to keep that inside for her daughter's sake.

“Hopefully we can reach the king's brother kingdom to aid us and provide safety from the enemy,”

“What about him coming to us? Surely my husband had sent word to reach us before the days of the attack on our kingdom.”

The captain didn’t answer the woman right away as the look on his face made the woman worry.

“There is something I have told my Husband made  so that it does not reach my ears.”

“Forgive me, my queen, the king forbade me and the others at the time in the castle to not allow the word of our situation. Every message sent to the king's brother never reaches thanks to the enemy along with the other that was sent to those of our allies.”

“What!? but our allies there was no way for them to not notice what was happening to our homelands.”

“I am afraid to say they did not think to make the move to help us believe that they too were attacked, brought, or threatened with a loved one as so of the way of war.”

Queen Edith couldn’t believe what she was hearing because it meant their end was sealed with no other way to break away.

While they talked, someone in the darkness was moving about. This person has been hunting down these people by the order of the one who wants them dead.

“Finally found them, now to finish quickly and get on with my journey.” Marcus thought.

Slowly he moves and kills each man on his watch skillfully as an assassin cold and emotionless.

Marcus was close to finishing, but an unexpected thing happened when both he and the last guard heard the noise of something snapping.

Soon whatever created that noise showed itself to be a big green muscles monster.

“Fuck an Orc! Why of all times does this beast have to appear now.” Marcus thought as took steps back away while the creature swung its weapon at the guard.

Sadly that man didn’t have the chance to run or to draw his weapon to save his life while the beast's weapon took away half his body killing the guy in one strike.

Once he was dead the big Orc let out a strong roar in victory and gave out a signal to the others to attack.

“What the fuck is happing!.” Captain asks.

One of his men quickly responded to him.

“Orcs! Captain, it's Orcs attacking us.” when said that men were killed by an Orc after that.

“What can't be true, I had set 5 men on guard to what the hell could have happened to them to warn us.”

The captain knew about Orcs and these creatures are not ones to attack in the shadows they rather face their prey head-on and sing it proudly for all to hear.

This man had to think fast or taste death right here and now failing to do the job of protecting the queen and Princes.

“7 men will stay with me and battle against these Orcs while 2 men will take the queen and her daughter away from here.”

Once the order has been given 7 of these men start fighting the Orc attacker while two men take the queen, her daughter, and the servant away.

Marcus was not far to see them escaping the scene, but for him to get to them the green monster must be killed first.

The Orc saw Marcus, but before it could attack it took a good look and sniffed the air.

“You smell of a human yet there is also the smell of death on you.” the Orc said.

Marcus laughs then soon shows the green beast his red bloody eyes.

“That right I am what you kind of a Vampire Orc,” Marcus said as he made the first move to attack, drawing his sword from his back.

Charging at the Orc to the point that the two weapons clash against one another.

The Orc felt a powerful strength coming from the enemy it was facing as the person didn't look much for it yet to prove the thing wrong.

Marcus sees no point wasting his time fringing the Orc as the mission to kill the queen and the daughter was important to have done.

So he pushes the Orc back with a strong focus and then aims to slash off one of the legs.

The sharp blade part of Marcus' sword cut easily through the bone of one leg.

This causes the Orc to fall forward to the ground bleeding quickly from the loss of a leg.

Of course, there wasn’t going to be any chance for the Orc to keep on fighting.

Marcus brings his sword down upon the head cutting deep into the skull and killing the Orc.

He pulled his sword out of his head and walked toward the small battle that was going on between the men and the Orcs.

Soon he was a part of the fight when a few Orcs charged at Marcus when they took notice of one of their being killed by him.

They were easy to kill by his sword making his passing through fill with not a lot of trouble getting in Marcus' way to what is the aim here.

Yet the captain wasn’t going to allow him to keep on walking as the man ran toward him.

This man took a hard guess that the mysterious hooded stranger was the one who killed the watchmen and remembered that this person was also a part of the fall of his home.

Marcus heard the sounds of a human coming at him, so he ready his sword to take on the weapon that aimed to kill.

“So another fool to get in my way tonight, I am starting to piss off right about now.”

“I don’t care how you feel, my job is to stop someone like you who serves the monster that invades our kingdom.”

“I serve no one only myself and this is a job I am being paid to have done,” Marcus said to the captain right after he pushed the man back and punched him hard in the face.

That sends the captain to fall to the ground, but he isn’t going to be one to die so fast.

The man quickly dodges the sword that aims for his life using his sword to create a cut on Marcus' left arm.

Marcus took a step back, a little impressed that he was cut, but it wouldn’t be there for long thanks to the gift of healing.

“Nicely done as you have just sealed your death, I was going to leave barely alive, but I changed my mind now.”

----------------------------------------

Queen Edith and Princess Arlene ran for their life along with a servant girl and two remaining men to protect them.

They had no clue when it was best to stop or even want to, but that soon was going to be decided.

Out of nowhere, a Goblin jumped out of the bushes aiming for the life of the Princess, but luck was on the young lady's side as she was able to dodge the Goblin weapon by falling behind thanks to the fear the green creature gave her.

That Goblin was killed right away by one of the men's swords in its belly while at the time Queen Edith went to her daughter.

“My dear daughter! Are you all right if the Goblin hurts you.” her mother was a great concern.

“I am a fine mother,  I was just lucky to have missed my life being put to death so soon.”

At that moment screamed was for all to hear as everyone turned their heads to see the servant girl was stabbed by a Goblin wooden spear in the back.

The poor girl cruelly came to the end and right then more Goblins came forth with weapons in their hands.

The two men who are left to keep harm from coming to the Queen and Princess must do the job to defend them from the Goblins.

“Queen, you must keep going. We do our best to keep these small green creatures at bay.”

One of the men tells her as she knew right then to run with Arlene not looking back only hearing the sounds of fighting going behind them.

They kept on running for an hour until they couldn’t handle running anymore.

So they had to stop to take a moment themselves.

“Mother, what are we to do now!.” Princess Arlene asked her mother in fear.

The queen didn't have her daughter with no answer to give, but soon one was to come to her as she began to remember something important.

“Mother!.”

“Shut up and listen to my daughter, I have the answer you want. We have to find the Wood-elves.”

“The Wood-elves? Should we not go find a village or a town why them.”

“Because they can help us as we are at peace with them and besides this will concern them as their home will be the next target if I am right.”

Princess is doubtful about this even if there is peace between two races which makes them want to help them and besides if Wood-elves were to be attacked as well they would fight on their own.

“I don’t know mother, are you sure this will work?”

“I am not sure about my sweet, but we have to try and hope for the best.”

Hearing this doesn’t sound good to her, but she listens to her mother following the women.

Queen Edith hopes to find Wood-elves soon before more danger comes first.

---------------------------------------------

“Look at now no longer the man who can stand a fight.”

Marcus says to the captain who was the only one suffering horrible wounds, even a loss to one of his arms.

The man was close to the death door and soon that door was beginning to open slowly.

They were the only remaining beings alive; all the others were dead on the ground.

“This is your fault, you understand don’t you, so don’t be holding hate for me as I said before this is only a job nothing to series besides being glad that you won’t be a witness to the Queen and princess's death”

Marcus placed his sword against the captain's neck ready to push him into the door.

When he got a good close look at his face there was a smile on the man's face.

“What the hell are you smiling about, you do see that you're about to die.”

“I know….. That my life is at an end here, but….. Knowing full well you won’t be able to get the Queen and her daughter happy.”

“What do you mean,” Marcus asks with a little annoyance in his tone.

“Deep within the woods….. Are Wood-elves they won’t allow a thing like you to get to them.”

The captain laughed right in his face even though the man was going to die, he felt like he won.

Marcus saw there was no means to endure this any longer, so he cut off his head and fell onto the ground rolling around for a bit.

When done he placed his sword back upon his back.

“So Wood-elves, huh, I doubt they would like to be involved with this matter between humans. Maybe they will make it easy for me and give the Queen and princess to me, but just in case it's better not to hope for that.”

Marcus thought to himself as he walked the same path the Queen and Prince ran off.

After a time he came to find an interesting sight of dead bodies of Goblins lying around along with 3 dead humans.

One was a girl, a servant most likely by the clothes she was wearing and two others were males wearing armor. It was easy to tell there were the men who served the kingdom of Girene now in the hands of another king.

“Well these poor souls met an end by the Goblins, but the queen and the princess were able to keep their lives.”

Marcus thought it looked like his guard was down for any creature to take the chance to strike.

A Goblin jumped at the moment to kill Marcus, but sadly there was no way it was going to work on him as he already knew there was one left still alive.

He caught the little green skin by the throat in the air without looking back.

“Oh look at that one still alive, how good, I was starting to get hungry.”

Marcus right then dug his tooth into the Goblin's neck drinking the blood out of its body.

Any vampire would not dearly drink the blood of Goblins, but Marcus was different, he had fed upon these creatures for a time and they would not be the only ones, other races or beasts would be his food.

When no longer blood was able to come out he let the Goblin's body fall hard to the ground and wiped the remainder of its blood off his lips.

“Ah, that was lovely, but back to my hunt,” Marcus said as he went back to looking for the queen and princess.

-----------------------------------------

Deep within the woods, two Wood-elves were upon a tree to keep watch for their home and the ruins that belonged to their people.

“Brother, do you hear that?”

“Yes sister, I believe there might be intruders in our home. We have will have to check and see what kind of intruders dear to tresspass.”
