Part 11

The clock on the wall was already past seven in the evening. The family should have been eating their dinner with relish. However, due to the absence of just one person, they were asked to wait until that person arrived.

The only woman with bright red lipstick nearly slammed down the spoon and fork she was holding. Her stomach was already rumbling, but she was asked by her husband to hold on a little longer.

"Don't let Michel eat alone," Alberto muttered.

"Then let us all starve?" interrupted Michel's stepmother Claire.

If only she hadn't been taught to be a noblewoman, she would have snatched the roast chicken and taken a bite right away. However, just imagining it felt horrible. There was no way she could do that.

"Father, let us eat first. It's not like he'll be home in a few minutes," Michel's half-brother Brion complained.

"In a few minutes. In a minute," Alberto said.
