William's Regret

William, Daphne, Zeva and Mrs Marco come home to a new house given by Mrs Abraham as a small gift for their wedding. They didn't watch the event until it was over because they had already been kicked out. They don't seem to mind too much. The most important thing for Daphne and her family was that she could get money for her father's treatment as soon as possible.

"Mom, is this our new home?" Zeva stared at the hut in front of her. William looked sadly. That place couldn't be called home. the hut was uninhabitable.

"Damn it! They are too much. How can they give a bad house like this? Even animals want to live in this place," William hissed angrily.

But Daphne and Mrs Marco didn't seem to mind too much. They go inside the house. Although angry, William still followed his wife. Zeva was in William's arms. The little girl immediately got close to him after he helped her.

"Uncle, will you be living with us from today?" Zeva asked William as he lay Zeva down on the bed. Luckily the house still has some furniture that can still be used.

William nodded his head. "Yeah, now sleep! It's too late." He rubbed his daughter's back. The first time he put his daughter to sleep. William never knew he would be this happy. Maybe because he was too tired, Zeva immediately fell asleep. Soft snores could be heard from the five year old girl.

Daphne stood in the doorway with an unreadable look. She had been watching William all along but she didn't say a word. Sensing someone watching him, William turned his head towards the door. His gaze directly met Daphne's. The first time a powerful tough guy seemed to feel nervous.

"Hey, I thought you were going to sleep with your mom tonight." William greeted awkwardly. After six years they just met again and suddenly got married in a very fast time. William didn't know what to do. Everything is too fast. It wasn't until twenty-four that many things had happened to him. He never imagined he'd picked the wrong person all this time. Not finished with his investigation, he already lives with that woman. It wasn't that William didn't want to, he was just a little unprepared. He wasn't even planning on agreeing to his divorce from Camille tonight.

"Can we talk in private?" Daphne spoke in a soft but slightly cold voice.

William was growing nervous but followed the woman out of the house so they could talk comfortably without fear that either Marco or Zeva overheard them. Plakkk! Daphne slapped William suddenly with a gasp. Her violet eyes flashed angrily. It was as if Daphne had been holding herself back.

William held his cheek. To be honest it didn't really hurt his skin but his heart ached. He had never gotten that look from Camille. He didn't want to get the same stare from his second wife. What's more, Daphne was the woman he should have married three years ago.

"Daphne ..."

"Did you feel angry when I slapped you?" Daphne asked. William shook his head.

"I'm just a little confused. I'm sorry that I was helpless until you married me. I know that I am not a good husband for you but I will prove that I am worthy of you."

Plakkk! Daphne slapped William again from a different angle. Both of William's cheeks felt Daphne's slap in one night. "First slap for your bastard attitude that just disappeared. Second slap for you who was never responsible to Zeva and now talking nonsense in front of me." Daphne's eyes filled with tears. In just a few seconds, the girl's tears fell. Daphne's heart was very soft.

"Daphne, I'm sorry." William said he was sorry.

Daphne snorted a little. "It's too late to apologize. You can't replace my pain due to your actions. You not only destroyed my dreams but you also dragged me to the lowest point."

William gulped down his own saliva. Daphne's words hit him hard. He did know. Even though he hadn't been by Daphne's side all this time but he could imagine how much she was suffering. "You not only destroyed me but destroyed my family and Zeva." Daphne's tears fell fast. "You..." at one point Daphne was left speechless. Her chest was very tight to release what she had been holding back for the last six years. Daphne could only clutch at William's shirt sobbing.

William fell silent. He left Daphne alone for a few minutes. "I know I don't deserve to apologize to you. The past can't be fixed but let me give you the best future." William took Daphne's hand then slapped it across his own cheek many times. "Slap me, Daphne. Hit me to your heart's content. I deserve it."

Daphne sobbed even more with William's treatment. Her legs couldn't stand anymore. All this time she had always waited for William to abuse men as cruelly as possible. But when William was in front of her, even when William had given her a chance, Daphne couldn't express all the feelings she had arranged over and over in her head.

William hugged Daphne tightly catching the body so it wouldn't fall. "Daphne, you should know that day I never intended to leave you. I had urgent business that required me to leave but believe me, as long as we are apart, I always think about you. Every day I can't wait to see you every day. I try to make you comfortable by my side. Three years, it took me three years to come back. I don't know your name but I know your family. I met your grandfather."

William licked his dry lips. "But it seems there was a misunderstanding by your grandfather. He married me to Camille. Daphne, my carelessness has led me to never know that you and Camille have almost the same face. I just found out the truth today. I just found out about our child. I'm telling you this Not to defend myself but I want you to know the truth."

Daphne shook her head. "You have no right to call Zeva your daughter. I don't care why you left and how you came back."

William took another sip of his saliva. Camille and Abraham's family have often insulted him during this time with the worst words but never as hurtful as Daphne's hate speech to William tonight. William's chest was so tight that he found it difficult to breathe.

"But tonight we are married. You are officially my wife."

Daphne wiped away her tears. "Only to save my father. To me, you are nothing more than a medium of exchange." Daphne let go of William's embrace, she entered the house leaving her husband. William was stunned for a long time before he entered the house.

Daphne was already lying in bed but William knew his new wife was still crying. It was clear from Daphne's shaking shoulders. William took a shabby blanket that was near Daphne. Not for himself but to cover Daphne and his daughter. After that William slept on the floor near the two people.

Felt no movement in bed. Daphne sat down. He saw William who was curled up taking a towel to make a pillow without a blanket and any padding.

"I still let you sleep next to me," Daphne said in a nasal voice that indicated the woman had been crying for a very long time.

"I know but I'm not crossing the line. You don't accept me as your husband. I respect you as a woman. Go to sleep Daphne. I don't want you to get sick."

Daphne bit her lip at William's words. "Then I don't want you to die. I don't want to be called a murderer. I've been accused of being a bitch enough. Sleep in this bed, I'll sleep in my mother's room with Zeva."

"Sleeping the three of us in a cramped bed isn't enough, Daphne. It's okay. I'm used to sleeping on the floor ever since I married Camille. Thank you for caring for me even though you hate me. I understand even more why you saved me that night even though I was strangers you don't know." William smiled showing his handsome face.

Daphne cleared her throat a little. She lifted Zeva carefully then went to Mrs. Marco's room. Zeva was a little stretched because her sleep was disturbed but Daphne rubbed Zeva's back again to make her sleep. Daphne went into Mrs. Marco's room where the three of them slept in a narrow bed.

In his room, William fell silent. He stared at the ceiling with a lot in mind. About Daphne and his daughter. He also thought of the humiliation of the Abraham family. William sat down. He pulled out his phone and called Aiden.

"Aiden, I need you to do something for me."

No matter how late the night was, William didn't think of Aiden who had already drifted off to sleep right now. He immediately gave his orders which Aiden nodded obediently without rebuttal.
