Mason was taken aback by the tone he used. It was like something came over him, something indescribable, something unidentified.
Before he could stop himself, he had already walked towards the men, his eyes trained on the lady who was skillfully dodging the blows delivered to her. But despite how good she was, she couldn't move fast. Her movements were sluggish and that's when Mason realised that she had a gunshot wound at the lower side of her chest. Her face was gradually turning pale from the blood loss and she was staggering as she struggled to block the fatal attacks from the masked men."You better mind your business and get lost unless you want to die with her." One man said after recovering from their previous shock.Something about his words irked Mason to the core."You bully a woman and dare call yourself a man!" He mocked, eyeing the men with contempt.Marching to them, he flung his fists, successfully delivering a powerful blow to one goon who immediately spat blood as the force knocked him several metres away before he collided on a wall and fell down with a thud.Everyone stilled, watching the scene play before them."The DEVIL!" One man shrieked, terror evident in his voice and expression.Mason, who was as surprised with what he just did, blinked repeatedly, trying to get his mind to stop playing games with him.He had felt a surge of power hit him before he delivered a blow and looking at the aftermath of his single blow, he couldn't believe that it was him who just did that. How's that possible? He never for once trained or even fought. He had zero experience in combat skills so how could he do that?'Might as well be out of sheer luck.' he reasoned as his alarmed eyes remained trained on the men standing in front of him with terrified expressions."How could that be? The devil is already dead. We saw his car explode." Another man argued, not willing to believe that the person before them was the notorious devil. How could that be? Although they never saw the devil in person, it was rumoured that he was a man tall and muscular, he was a giant. The man before them however was nothing compared to what the rumors said. He was young, like he was at an average of 24 years. He was dressed shabbily and appeared malnourished. What was the possibility of them seeing the devil in person?Although that seemed like a far fetched idea, they could not ignore that possibility either.Nobody was known for killing with a single blow in the underworld other than the devil himself."Then how do you explain that?" Another man chipped in, pointing at their comrade who was no longer breathing from a single blow."We should report this to capo. We can't act recklessly." A man said, his voice full of authority.Mason guessed that he must be the leader."What about the girl, commander? The captain said we should bring her back.""You can go and capture her if you don't want to see the sun set." The man referred to as commander thundered."Retreat!" He ordered and they all disappeared into the hallway.Mason released the breath he had been holding for long. He didn't know what came over him to make him do something so reckless. He didn't want to imagine what would happen to him if the men had not mistaken him for the man called the devil and he chickened out.Only he knows how fast his heart has been beating, praying that he doesn't end up butchered. His life might be miserable, but he liked it nevertheless. To him, it was better to suffer and be alive than die. He wasn't looking forward to dying soon, not when he hadn't accomplished his dreams of owning a business.Breathing deeply, he rushed to the lady who was now leaning on a wall for support as she groaned in pain.He supported her, making her lean on his body.Actually, he should have just turned a blind eye and minded his business by walking away but he just had to be a busybody and jump straight to the battle field." Miss! Miss ! Miss!!" He called out, frantically trying to get her to look at him.Looking at the wound at her ribs, he couldn't help but flinch.'That must have hurt.' he said Inwardly, not wanting to imagine how much pain the lady was in."Why would you walk on this part of the streets alone?" He questioned, laying her on the ground and trying to apply pressure on the wound to at least stop the bleeding."I don't know why I always land myself into trouble every time." He said, tearing the hem of his shirt and wrapping the wound before lifting the lady in his arms."Let's get you to the hospital." He muttered, taking hurried steps to the direction of the hospital. He had managed to successfully stop the bleeding, but that was only temporary. He knew that the lady would be needing professional help from a doctor and probably get the bullet in her removed.Running across the streets with a wounded woman in his arms, Mason did not care what others would think of him. He had a life to save and he would not care about others opinion if he could save the young lady.He arrived at the hospital and the nurses arrived with a stretcher and carried the lady away. The lady was reluctant to part with him as she clutched the fabric of his shirt while murmuring," brother, don't go."Mason pried open her hands as the nurses rushed her to the emergency theatre."Sir, fill in the patient's information and proceed to make the payment so that your sister can be treated." A voice jolted him to reality, mocking him of the irony of his life.Out of panic, Mason had made his way to the most expensive Private hospital in town. Now that he was asked to pay before the operation, he was lost for words and didn't know what to do.He obviously couldn't manage to pay up for the operation and that might put the lady's life in danger."How much?" He asked, absentminded."A thousand dollars for the deposit."Mason's mouth hung low in disbelief."A thousand dollars for deposit?" He repeated the nurse's words to make sure he got the right answer. The nurse nodded, an impatient look on her face."Sir, I suggest you make the Payment before it's too late to save your sister." She added with distaste. Upon closer look at the man's choice of clothes which were old and obviously overwashed coupled with his reaction upon mentioning the deposit, the nurses attitude towards him changed as she looked at him with disdain.Just when Mason wanted to open his mouth and clarify the relationship he had with the patient, a voice so cold that it made him shiver resonated in the hallway."Since when did a mere nurse of Hope's hospital have the right to dictate when the young miss of the Smith family gets to be treated or not?" Mason turned to look at the direction of the voice. An old Man accompanied by almost ten bodyguards dressed in black marched to the hospital. The look on their faces was enough to inti
Samantha was in her office when a notification sounded on her phone. She was preparing herself to meet William Carter to discuss the partnership of the two companies.Tapping the screen lock, it was a video from Sandra, one of her good friends."What could Sandra be sending me?" She murmured."Maybe some town gossip." She said, unlocking her phone and tapping on the video.A man appeared, covered in blood as he carried a woman in his arms intimately as he rushed to what seemed to be the entrance of a hospital.Samantha watched the video, wondering why Sandra would send her a video of a random man on the streets. That's until she read the message that came with the video clip."Didn't know your scum of a husband has a mistress while married to you."Samantha could feel her blood boil at the message, clicking the video again, she watched it.Indeed, the man in the video was none other than her good for nothing husband. She couldn't believe he could dare cheat on her with a random woman
As he walked down the pathway leading to the gate and out of the Huttons family gate, Mason was still in disbelief that Samantha could actually accuse him, ask the guards to heat him and throw him out of the house after forcing him to sign the divorce papers. As he limped away, he could not control the scoff that left his mouth."Mason oh Mason, look at your pathetic self. Even you cannot defend yourself in front of your wife." He belittled himself."No, she's actually my ex-wife! I am now a divorced man." He chuckled bitterly. It had been three years. Three years of him suffering in the hands of the Huttons. In those three years, he had lived a life worse than a dog's. At Least a dog gets to be fed by its owner and sleep in a good house. He on the other hand would only eat after he has worked for it. He could also count the number of times he would get a decent sleep without finding his bed drenched or forced to stay outside the house. Those three years have taught him that in thi
The memories of how he came here to Carlifonia to have a peaceful talk with their rival group only to have them ambush him on his way back. The snake tattoo identified their rival group. Seeing the tattoo stimulated him to have his memories back.He recognized himself as the rumored devil in the underworld, the leader of the wolves, a powerful and formidable Mafia group from Washington DC.He remembered his lovely younger sister, the same lady he had saved in the morning. The old man in the hospital turned out to be the old Butler of the Smith family and his grandfather's right hand man.Mason saw red, his anger building up to uncontrollable heights. He was the Most feared leader of the wolves, the devil so how could he allow others to sacrifice their lives to save him. With a new surge of energy, he moved. Like an arrow, he shot up high, landing next to the approaching assassins. In less than two minutes, there was not even a single assassin standing. His men watched in awe as their
Mason was known to be ruthless and cold-hearted except to his sister Sophie. Despite her clingy behaviour, he loved and adored her so much. Only she and his grandfather knew about this gentle side of him.His parents died when Sophia was young so she leaned more on him as she grew up.He was sixteen years old when their parents died. Although his grandfather lied to him about the cause of their death, Mason was not stupid enough not to realise that one of his uncles was actually responsible. The old man didn't want the hatred and revenge to cloud his senses so he hid the truth from him.He did his investigation when he took over his family's business and identified the culprit. He didn't want his grandfather worrying about him with his poor health so let them be. Not like he would forever do, he would wait until the old man was no more so that he could avenge the death of his parents. Family or not, he was never a forgiving person. He liked to see his enemy bow down and beg for mercy
“Are you alright? You must have been startled” Mason inquired, pushing back the strands of black locks that fell on Sophia’s face behind her ears. Sophia avoiding eye contact responded, “I’m okay”Mason let out a huge sigh of relief, “That’s great”.Retracting his hands from the back of Sophie’s ears, he turned towards his men; regarding them with a fierce expression. “Now, tell me about this memory loss of mine. What on earth happened to me?”A man In black suit and brown curly hair, who goes by the name Leo, spoke up first, “The last time we were with you, you said that you had a meeting with your uncle”Mason furrowed his brow in confusion. Why would he have a meeting with his uncle Markus? The same uncle that was responsible for his parent’s death. “A meeting with my uncle? Are you sure?”“A hundred percent, capo”Mason still found it hard to believe especially since this information didn’t seem to trigger any memory, “And what happened after that?”“I don’t really know all the d
“Is that the best solution? Going back to the Hutton’s house? But why? You were already kicked out and..” Butler Martin took the divorce paper in Mason’s hands,”You’ve already been divorced. I oppose to this!”“I don’t want to go back either” Mason countered. The thought of going back to that house and suffering under Sandra and Samantha once more made his skin crawl but, it was a feat he had to endure. “But, I need to make whosoever did this to me to think the ball is still in his/her court. That they still have me trapped in their palm.”Butler Martins turned away from Mason, clearly furious. “Your grandfather wouldn’t want to see you suffer this way”Mason placed his hands over Butler Martins shoulders, reassuringly, “Don’t be too hard on yourself. I’ll be fine and I’m sure grandfather would understand. It’s only going to be for a little while. Until we catch the person who did this to me”Butler Martins turned to face Mason, “By the way, would your wife and her family take you bac
“Mother!” Samantha shrieked, her eyes widened as her shaky gaze moved from between her wet divorced husband to her mother who was funing in rage with a little red bucket in her hand. “Get out of here right this instant!” Her mother, Quinn shouted at Mason but the later didn’t budge, he remained on his knees nevertheless; drenched from his head to toe. Mason clenched his fist as hard as he could. He’d come this far, swallowing his pride so he was going to bare the humiliation at all cost.“I’m sorry” Mason repeated like a damaged robot, “Please accept me back into your home”Samantha who couldn’t bare the humiliation on her part; rushed over to Mason’s side, “Get up right this instant. Don’t you have any shame? Hurry up and leave”“I won’t leave”“You have no reason to be here, we are divorced!”“On paper but not yet in court”Samantha’s eyes widened, taken aback. She hadn’t expected those words to slip out of Mason’s mouth, “What did you say?”Quinn scoffed, “The audacity. You proba
