Dylan pulled the chair closer, sitting right in front of Melissa. This was the first time Dylan and Melissa sat together in such a different situation, on equal footing.

Normally, Melissa avoided meeting Dylan, even when they were at the Watsons' home. Back then, Melissa had no romantic feelings for Dylan. They got married because Melissa was pregnant at that time.

Dylan had no idea that Melissa was pregnant; the Watson family gave Dylan a different reason, one of them being compensation for Dylan having slept with Melissa.

"It's been a while since we've had a meal together like this," Melissa said, smiling broadly.

The man in front of Melissa fell silent, perhaps never remembering a time when he had a meal with her. When Dylan was still a servant at the Watsons' home, he had to wait for Melissa and others to finish their meals before he could eat.
