Chapter 10
Author: Oldwell
Elias knew he would only get answers by mentioning the marriage agreement.

Sure enough, Anthony’s attitude did a 180-degree turn. No wonder Remus didn’t have him do anything to the Bowen family yesterday. Anthony would’ve gotten into big trouble if he had.

“I see!” He chuckled. “To be frank with you, Eli, I’m not sure about Mr. Cosby’s identity either. A friend of mine asked me to help him while he’s in town. That's all.”

He couldn’t reveal it was his Temple Lord who gave the order.

Friend? Elias hummed. This friend must be powerful; otherwise, the Dragon Head himself wouldn’t be so subservient to Remus.

“Did this friend of yours stay in prison for some time?”

That must be the only way Remus had come to know this mystery person.

“Yes. They’re currently still in prison.”

Elias nodded to himself in understanding. Beside him, Brianne scoffed. “See? I told you Remus Cosby was just a lackey. He might just be the guy who scrubbed that other guy’s toilet for three years in prison!”

Elias agreed with her theory. Remus truly was just a good-for-nothing lackey.

“Hold up,” Anthony exclaimed in shock. “What did you say? Remus Cosby was in prison? For three years?”

Meanwhile, Remus was in a cafe having lunch with Abel Lawson. Abel was being incredibly respectful, all smiles and nods. He eagerly shoved the business contract to Kylie and had her sign it on the spot. The man was so happy with the deal he had even made Cox Corporation the exclusive supplier for all their projects.

“Mr. Cosby, will you attend Ms. Lotus’ press conference tonight?” Abel asked tentatively.

If Elias Bowen revered this man as a guest, he must have some influence, Abel thought. Remus might even be able to put in a good word for him when he saw Ms. Lotus.

Remus blinked. Jean Lotus was already here? If that were the case, he wouldn’t need to delay any longer!

“Of course I will!” he exclaimed.

His reaction won Abel over even more, as the man thought Remus might know Ms. Lotus personally. But he couldn’t express his awe right now, or it might ruin his plans. He’d make sure to greet Jean Lotus later tonight to get things going.

Abel then stood up. “Well, I’ll get out of your way now, Mr. Cosby. I hope to see you there tonight…and I’ll make sure to honor the deal with Cox Corp, so don’t you worry. Be seeing you.”

“I’ll see you out.” Kylie got up happily. The more deals she could land for work, the more secure her position.

As she was walking back into the cafe, she realized that her contempt for Remus had significantly decreased. The guy was easy on the eyes too. “That was some pretty good acting!” she praised with a smile.

Remus sipped his tea. “What do you mean?”

“Y’know, you going to Ms. Lotus’ conference. Someone like me wouldn’t even get an invitation, not to mention you. The Bowens wouldn’t bring you along either, since you’re not married to their daughter yet.”

Kylie truly believed Remus was putting up an act all this time. It’d be fine if Abel Lawson didn’t see Remus tonight. Every influential person from across the province would be attending, so not spotting Remus among the flood of attendees was highly likely.

Remus had really had it with Kylie. He set down his cup. “You’ve had your fun. I’m leaving now.”

Kylie rolled her eyes. “I forgot Miranda still needs you simping after her. Before you go, here’s some advice: everyone in the city knows how cold she can be toward men.

“It’s very likely she’s just using you as a temporary cover, so she doesn’t have to address her other suitors. So make sure you prepare yourself for a future after her. Save up some money, and make new connections. Don’t end up on the streets after she gets tired of you.”

If she didn’t find Remus very attractive, there was no way Miranda Bowen would. So it must all be some ongoing ploy.

Remus turned to leave without another word.

“Remember my advice!” Kylie called after him. “It’s for your own good!”

She followed him out the cafe.

Just then, two cars skidded to a stop before them. Eight burly men stepped out, all clasping bats and machetes. Their fierce, dangerous air made Kylie step back in fear.

Their leader was a bald man who stayed in the car. He was leaning out the passenger window lazily.

“Remus Cosby?” he asked.

“Yes. And you are?” Remus tilted his head curiously. Who were these people?

Before the bald man could answer, one of the men cried, “Are you blind? This is Bald Richard of Neptuna! How dare you disrespect him?!”

Bald Richard? The onlooking crowd stepped back fearfully, and some people walked away.

Kylie’s face had turned bone white. “Bald…Richard?”

Remus noticed that everyone was terrified of the man. He asked curiously, “Is he powerful?”

Kylie snuck him a look, answering softly, “He’s not just powerful; he’s the Dragon Head’s Team Leader in the underground world!”

Remus snorted in amusement. How outrageous were these people?

“What are you laughing at?!” one of the men demanded.

“Stop that and stay put!” Kylie hissed at Remus.

If Remus pissed these people off, there was no telling what they would do!

“It was nothing.” Remus bit his lip. He decided not to mess with these men because Anthony had treated him very well over the past few days. “What’s up?”

One of the hooligans raised his bat menacingly. “I’ll beat you to a pulp, fresh meat!”

“Stop!” Bald Richard suddenly said. He turned to Remus. “You’ve got some guts. Usually, people start kneeling and begging for mercy when they see me. If you kneel down and join me, I’ll show you mercy.”

“What are you waiting for? Kneel!”

“Boss treats us very well. Your only alternative is having your legs broken, kid!”

Kylie’s lips twitched at everyone’s encouragement. She wanted to warn Remus against acquainting with these people but stopped when she realized she could ask for his help once he was involved with the underworld.

“This could be your chance to avoid being a lifelong simp, Remus. Hurry up and seize it,” she quietly added.

Remus glared at her, then turned back to Bald Richard. “I can be one of your men, sure. But you better ask Anthony Mark first if he’ll take me under him.”

The moment he said that, the men turned silent.

Anthony Mark? The Dragon Head himself?

“That’s it! You’re dead meat!” one of the men roared, raising his bat once again.

Anthony curled up and retched. He was a mess, vomiting gastric juice all over the floor. Still, the sect leaders circled around him.“Dragon Head, how are you feeling?”“Take him to the back!”“Let’s fight for the Dragon Head. Kill that bastard!”Behind all the sect leaders were at least hundreds of their subordinates. Hearing the command, all of them raised their weapons simultaneously. They stared at the door, ready to attack at any time.Remus walked out calmly. When he saw the scene in the corridor, he smiled, unsurprised. Hearing the footsteps, he knew there would be a group. This must be a small group, and he guessed there would be more downstairs. However, no matter how many ordinary people there were, they meant nothing to Remus. He asked casually, “Single combat? Or a group fight?”Seeing Remus, everyone was shocked. Who was this guy? No one knew him, nor had they seen him. Everyone thought that a powerful fighter had returned. Instead, a young man appeared. However, a man came out of the blue and messed everything up. Since he had put in so much effort, he felt unsure if he could get Miranda to sleep with him.Skylar smiled faintly. “It won’t be affected. I ordered Adeptus Gale to call his senior. Once Remus said that, everyone in the hall was shocked. But in the next second, laughter was heard. No one believed that a liar was worthy of Jean Lotus."You scoundrel. You must've heard me mentioning that Ms. Lotus would be at the Neptuna, so you've come here to commit fraud!" Brianne sneered."Sure enough, those who came from prison usually have something wrong with their heads." Elias shook his head. He had already sensed something unusual yesterday when Remus spoke back to him. How would a normal person dare disrespect him? Upon knowing the truth, Elias figured that Remus must have been beaten up when he was in prison.Miranda stood by the side, watching the scene indifferently. She looked innocent and stunning in her evening gown. Her looks were worthy of her title as the most attractive woman in Neptuna. "Mr. Bowen, this is your son-in-law? He knew that there were too many people, so he would privately talk about the marriage cancellation once the banquet was over. After Jean left, another wave of discussions blew up in the hall. Everyone was making guesses at Remus' identity and why he came with Ms. Lotus. Moreover, they were curious if he had really just come out of prison. Grant wasn't the only one to find Halvor's behavior strange, but even the surrounding deities thought it odd. They'd been around each other for hundreds of years and understood each other's personalities all too well.Knowing Halvor, he would either go big or go home. While they knew Halvor had a point, how could he tolerate it when Grant had disrespected him to this degree? But the truth was, only Halvor knew the real reason he had left."That was close!" Halvor, who had returned to the void, let out a sigh of relief.Yet, at that exact moment, he suddenly heard a cracking sound from within himself, and in an instant, he was frozen in place. The sound wasn't just a single occurrence—it continued persistently, eventually turning into a roaring noise. When it reached its peak, it abruptly stopped, and everything returned to silence.Halvor stood there in shock, unable to come to his senses for a long time."No!" he suddenly howled, and his whole demeanor turned frenzied. The same happened to the avatar behind him, with nothing left for concealment."You're... You're courting death!" Halvor was in an absolute rage as his energy burst out uncontrollably. Its intensity was more than double that of his previous most powerful attack.Clothing was typically so closely associated with the body that it formed part of one's outward image. This was even more so for avatars, where the clothing was almost inseparable. After all, an avatar was not a physical entity, making it nearly impossible for the clothing to be damaged or torn.Yet, Grant's attack had left him exposed in front of so many deities. How would Halvor face anyone in the future?Grant remained in his previous position, merely laughing and looking at Halvor. He pointed at him and said, "No wonder you can say such vile things. Then, it transformed into a cloud of black smoke and dissipated. His plan was to use his avatar at this point of the fight to cause Grant to despair or to turn and flee. If that happened, taking him down afterward would elevate his prestige to the highest level. However, Grant didn't run away. Instead, his energy churned even more thickly as he snapped, "You uneducated and petty scoundrel, do you think you can bark in my presence? Before, he was judging Grant's attacks with his eyes, but now he was experiencing it firsthand, and only by confronting it head-on did he realize its true intensity. It was far more powerful than he initially thought.Grant was also taken aback. Halvor, being a main deity, was supposed to be comparable to Roman according to Francis, or at least on par with Roman with an avatar. Even though Darsia had indeed been declining quite significantly, since when did Halvor get to look down on them?During the peak of Darsia's dominance, never mind Halvor, even Amez wouldn't dare to compete with them. Darsia's overall strength was unrivaled globally, leaving no room for challengers. But even if Darsia had weakened, Grant still couldn't tolerate Halvor taking advantage of his nation like this.

Grant was taken aback and momentarily lost for words. In the whole world's eyes, Halvor's people had always been seen as those oppressed by those of Amez and Silas, a role they had been stuck in for centuries without any change. This was also the reason why Grant was able to reach out to Halvor. He never would have thought that Halvor would say he wanted to team up with Amez and Silas to take on Darsia together. Grant felt like no normal person would say something like this because it completely defied common sense."I really like an old saying from Darsia—money makes the world go round," Halvor continued.
