Chapter 10
Author: Oldwell
Elias knew he would only get answers by mentioning the marriage agreement.

Sure enough, Anthony’s attitude did a 180-degree turn. No wonder Remus didn’t have him do anything to the Bowen family yesterday. Anthony would’ve gotten into big trouble if he had.

“I see!” He chuckled. “To be frank with you, Eli, I’m not sure about Mr. Cosby’s identity either. A friend of mine asked me to help him while he’s in town. That's all.”

He couldn’t reveal it was his Temple Lord who gave the order.

Friend? Elias hummed. This friend must be powerful; otherwise, the Dragon Head himself wouldn’t be so subservient to Remus.

“Did this friend of yours stay in prison for some time?”

That must be the only way Remus had come to know this mystery person.

“Yes. They’re currently still in prison.”

Elias nodded to himself in understanding. Beside him, Brianne scoffed. “See? I told you Remus Cosby was just a lackey. He might just be the guy who scrubbed that other guy’s toilet for three years in prison!”

Elias agreed with her theory. Remus truly was just a good-for-nothing lackey.

“Hold up,” Anthony exclaimed in shock. “What did you say? Remus Cosby was in prison? For three years?”

Meanwhile, Remus was in a cafe having lunch with Abel Lawson. Abel was being incredibly respectful, all smiles and nods. He eagerly shoved the business contract to Kylie and had her sign it on the spot. The man was so happy with the deal he had even made Cox Corporation the exclusive supplier for all their projects.

“Mr. Cosby, will you attend Ms. Lotus’ press conference tonight?” Abel asked tentatively.

If Elias Bowen revered this man as a guest, he must have some influence, Abel thought. Remus might even be able to put in a good word for him when he saw Ms. Lotus.

Remus blinked. Jean Lotus was already here? If that were the case, he wouldn’t need to delay any longer!

“Of course I will!” he exclaimed.

His reaction won Abel over even more, as the man thought Remus might know Ms. Lotus personally. But he couldn’t express his awe right now, or it might ruin his plans. He’d make sure to greet Jean Lotus later tonight to get things going.

Abel then stood up. “Well, I’ll get out of your way now, Mr. Cosby. I hope to see you there tonight…and I’ll make sure to honor the deal with Cox Corp, so don’t you worry. Be seeing you.”

“I’ll see you out.” Kylie got up happily. The more deals she could land for work, the more secure her position.

As she was walking back into the cafe, she realized that her contempt for Remus had significantly decreased. The guy was easy on the eyes too. “That was some pretty good acting!” she praised with a smile.

Remus sipped his tea. “What do you mean?”

“Y’know, you going to Ms. Lotus’ conference. Someone like me wouldn’t even get an invitation, not to mention you. The Bowens wouldn’t bring you along either, since you’re not married to their daughter yet.”

Kylie truly believed Remus was putting up an act all this time. It’d be fine if Abel Lawson didn’t see Remus tonight. Every influential person from across the province would be attending, so not spotting Remus among the flood of attendees was highly likely.

Remus had really had it with Kylie. He set down his cup. “You’ve had your fun. I’m leaving now.”

Kylie rolled her eyes. “I forgot Miranda still needs you simping after her. Before you go, here’s some advice: everyone in the city knows how cold she can be toward men.

“It’s very likely she’s just using you as a temporary cover, so she doesn’t have to address her other suitors. So make sure you prepare yourself for a future after her. Save up some money, and make new connections. Don’t end up on the streets after she gets tired of you.”

If she didn’t find Remus very attractive, there was no way Miranda Bowen would. So it must all be some ongoing ploy.

Remus turned to leave without another word.

“Remember my advice!” Kylie called after him. “It’s for your own good!”

She followed him out the cafe.

Just then, two cars skidded to a stop before them. Eight burly men stepped out, all clasping bats and machetes. Their fierce, dangerous air made Kylie step back in fear.

Their leader was a bald man who stayed in the car. He was leaning out the passenger window lazily.

“Remus Cosby?” he asked.

“Yes. And you are?” Remus tilted his head curiously. Who were these people?

Before the bald man could answer, one of the men cried, “Are you blind? This is Bald Richard of Neptuna! How dare you disrespect him?!”

Bald Richard? The onlooking crowd stepped back fearfully, and some people walked away.

Kylie’s face had turned bone white. “Bald…Richard?”

Remus noticed that everyone was terrified of the man. He asked curiously, “Is he powerful?”

Kylie snuck him a look, answering softly, “He’s not just powerful; he’s the Dragon Head’s Team Leader in the underground world!”

Remus snorted in amusement. How outrageous were these people?

“What are you laughing at?!” one of the men demanded.

“Stop that and stay put!” Kylie hissed at Remus.

If Remus pissed these people off, there was no telling what they would do!

“It was nothing.” Remus bit his lip. He decided not to mess with these men because Anthony had treated him very well over the past few days. “What’s up?”

One of the hooligans raised his bat menacingly. “I’ll beat you to a pulp, fresh meat!”

“Stop!” Bald Richard suddenly said. He turned to Remus. “You’ve got some guts. Usually, people start kneeling and begging for mercy when they see me. If you kneel down and join me, I’ll show you mercy.”

“What are you waiting for? Kneel!”

“Boss treats us very well. Your only alternative is having your legs broken, kid!”

Kylie’s lips twitched at everyone’s encouragement. She wanted to warn Remus against acquainting with these people but stopped when she realized she could ask for his help once he was involved with the underworld.

“This could be your chance to avoid being a lifelong simp, Remus. Hurry up and seize it,” she quietly added.

Remus glared at her, then turned back to Bald Richard. “I can be one of your men, sure. But you better ask Anthony Mark first if he’ll take me under him.”

The moment he said that, the men turned silent.

Anthony Mark? The Dragon Head himself?

“That’s it! You’re dead meat!” one of the men roared, raising his bat once again.

However, if he did it and Remus reported it to the Temple Lord, it would attract unnecessary trouble.“Understood.” The guard turned and saw

Anthony curled up and retched. He was a mess, vomiting gastric juice all over the floor. Still, the sect leaders circled around him.“Dragon Head, how are you feeling?”“Take him to the back!”“Let’s fight for the Dragon Head. Kill that bastard!”Behind all the sect leaders were at least hundreds of their subordinates. Hearing the command, all of them raised their weapons simultaneously. They stared at the door, ready to attack at any time.Remus walked out calmly. When he saw the scene in the corridor, he smiled, unsurprised. Hearing the footsteps, he knew there would be a group. This must be a small group, and he guessed there would be more downstairs. However, no matter how many ordinary people there were, they meant nothing to Remus. He asked casually, “Single combat? Or a group fight?”Seeing Remus, everyone was shocked. Who was this guy? No one knew him, nor had they seen him. Everyone thought that a powerful fighter had returned. Instead, a young man appeared. However, a man came out of the blue and messed everything up. Since he had put in so much effort, he felt unsure if he could get Miranda to sleep with him.Skylar smiled faintly. “It won’t be affected. I ordered Adeptus Gale to call his senior. They will drug Miranda. This time, we will not fail. When her sickness resurfaces, you can win her heart easily. Be careful with your relationship with her. If Elias finds out, we will be

Once Remus said that, everyone in the hall was shocked. But in the next second, laughter was heard. No one believed that a liar was worthy of Jean Lotus."You scoundrel. You must've heard me mentioning that Ms. Lotus would be at the Neptuna, so you've come here to commit fraud!" Brianne sneered."Sure enough, those who came from prison usually have something wrong with their heads." Elias shook his head. He had already sensed something unusual yesterday when Remus spoke back to him. How would a normal person dare disrespect him? Upon knowing the truth, Elias figured that Remus must have been beaten up when he was in prison.Miranda stood by the side, watching the scene indifferently. She looked innocent and stunning in her evening gown. Her looks were worthy of her title as the most attractive woman in Neptuna. "Mr. Bowen, this is your son-in-law? Remus answered concisely. He knew that there were too many people, so he would privately talk about the marriage cancellation once the banquet was over. After Jean left, another wave of discussions blew up in the hall. Everyone was making guesses at Remus' identity and why he came with Ms. Lotus. Moreover, they were curious if he had really just come out of prison. Even though it emitted a haze and its body was concealed in the darkness, with no way of knowing its size, something was off about its voice and the way it spoke. If land could nurture beasts, then it was even more likely for the ocean to do the same. But what did it mean when it said "at last"?Remus asked in surprise, "Do you know me?"The scarlet eyes looked down from above with indifference. Even if I were..."A flash of white light sliced through, and its voice abruptly stopped as its body was split in two, slowly sinking to the seabed."Let's go!" Remus slowly floated up.Ribolt was so frightened that it released a stream of green liquid from its underside. They never expected things to turn out like this. The octopus was one of the rules of the ocean, especially in this area spanning several dozen nautical miles, where no other creature dared to approach. It completely dominated this territory.Yet, all its eight tentacles were cut off with one strike. Didn't this mean it was basically rendered useless in one move? The octopus finally came to terms with reality and glared at Remus intently. It sputtered, wanting to yell at him, but was unable to find the words to continue after a long pause."What are you sputtering about, you incredibly ugly thing?"The one who spoke was the eel. Silently, Remus gave it the name Ribolt.Ribolt raised its head and said, "You should consider your status before daring to attack this human. It certainly wouldn't have claimed to have never seen humans.Remus was just about to turn around and ask the eel if there were any other forbidden areas around. But just as he did, he found the eel standing up straight before bending into an arc at the edge of the cliff. It resembled a kneeling human. It hastily said, "Your Majesty, I swear by the sun and the moon and all that's holy, I brought him here with no ill intent."While searching under the sea, I came across him and noticed he had a very unique quality—he can emit spiritual energy. Animals had a strong territorial instinct, and this was especially true for beasts. Voryn, being a beast lord, undoubtedly had its own territory. Even if it lived within a domain, the area around that domain should still be feared by other beasts."Off-limits?" the creature said thoughtfully. "Let me think..."But before it even finished speaking, countless thin blue lines appeared around its body suddenly, lighting up a large portion of the seabed in blue. These lines eventually converged into one spot and shot straight toward Remus. It was electricity. This creature was part electric eel, and its large body could generate electricity. If in the air, its electrical discharges could rival lightning. Soon after, the fish all suddenly turned to look toward the east.In the distance, in the pitch-black darkness, a pair of large yellow eyes gradually appeared.
