Chapter 3
Author: Oldwell
Adeptus Gale’s face nearly collided with the piece of paper. His embarrassment was swiftly channeled into rage. “You…how dare y-wait, marriage…agreement?”

He gaped at the words in shock.

“Marriage agreement? What are you talking about?” The young man by Elias’ side came up to study the paper himself, his jaw dropping in the next second.

In sickness and in health…till death do us part…

Groom: Remus Cosby.

Bride: Miranda Bowen.

Elias quickly joined them. “This…so Father had been telling the truth?”

Before his father passed, he had told Elias of an arranged marriage for Miranda. Elias hadn’t taken it seriously, given that arranged marriages were no longer a thing nowadays. There was also a chance the groom had forgotten about it, too.

The crowd began wondering if this was the man Miranda had been waiting for.

Remus tucked the paper back into his box. “How old did you say you were when you started honing your skills, sir? I might have misheard you just now.”

Adeptus Gale’s face was so red it looked like a tomato. There was no way he could recover from what he had just said.

“It must be fake, Mr. Bowen. It must be!” the young man by Elias’ side cried again, glaring at Elias. “This fraudulent document should be tossed out immediately!”

“It’s genuine,” Elias sighed, then looked at Remus. “I acknowledge this agreement as valid on behalf of my family, but times are different now. We’ll have to see what Miranda thinks. Why don’t you test your blood, too, and we’ll see what happens after she wakes up?”

Adeptus Gale might’ve made a mistake, but Elias still wanted him to administer his test. He didn’t blame himself for forgetting about the arranged marriage either—it had been set decades ago, so it made sense that it had slipped his mind.

“No need. I’m just here to call off the marriage. Here, catch.” Remus tossed the paper to him. “Peace out.”

With that, he turned around to leave. When he was by the entrance, he called out, “You can have the prescription for the cure as payment for the cancellation!”

The crowd sunk into frenzied discussion once again, appraising Remus’ bravado for turning down the opportunity to be part of the Bowen family.

Elias’ expression had long darkened at the embarrassment his family would suffer from his daughter’s offer of marriage being declined.

The young man beside him tried to calm him down. “Don’t bother about that man, Mr. Bowen. He’s only calling the marriage off because he knows he doesn’t deserve Miranda.”

Elias nodded glumly in response. After everyone’s blood had been collected, he turned to go upstairs. Adeptus Gale and the young man followed him.

They entered a room where the young and beautiful Miranda Bowen lay asleep on her bed. Her beauty was unrivaled in the city, and before her illness, countless suitors tried their luck with her every day.

Adeptus Gale stood before the bed, chanting more of his incantations while positioning the blood before Miranda. Five minutes passed, and still, the woman remained asleep.

Brianne Mells, Miranda’s mother, murmured tearfully beside the bed, “Adeptus, how is my daughter…?”

The old man shook his head with a sigh. “There’s still no sign of her fated half. We can keep hoping he shows up.”

“You said he would be in Neptuna, but every bachelor available in the city has already tried their luck. Who else is there?” Brianne cried.

Adeptus Gale did a quick calculation again, then affirmed solemnly, “I’m sure he’s in this city.”

Just then, he turned to the young man by Elias’ side. “You haven’t had your blood tested yet, have you, Mr. Stuart? Why don’t we try testing it?”

The young man was Ben Stuart, heir to one of the newer upper-class families’ in Neptuna.

“I…” He frowned. “I’ve always seen Miranda as a kid sister, nothing else…but alright, I’ll try.”

Without another moment’s hesitation, he bit his finger, breaking the skin and letting blood drip into Adeptus’ bowl.

The moment it did, Miranda let out a weak cough, making Brianne and Elias’s hopes rise. Beside them, Ben quietly prayed he was the one.

But as the seconds passed, they sank into despair once again. Miranda remained fast asleep.

Adeptus Gale scrunched his eyebrows up. “I’m sure Mr. Stuart is the one. Maybe it just takes more blood.”

Ben bit into another finger immediately, letting more blood drip into the bowl. Yet Miranda only coughed again, still deep in slumber.

“Again!” the old man ordered.

Ben continued despite the pain, but Miranda didn’t cough this time. In fact, she stayed as silent as ever.

“Why isn’t she waking up?” Brianne asked worriedly. “It looks like she’s sinking deeper into sleep! Can we just get a knife to draw more blood?”

Ben flinched at the proposition, turning to Adeptus Gale with a pleading gaze. The old man was unnerved now. He did not understand why his methods weren’t working.

Meanwhile, Elias realized that Remus was right. Miranda’s condition was actually worsening with all this attempted treatment. He ordered, “Get us some groundsel…”

These herbs were usually difficult to procure due to their rarity and poisonous properties. However, Elias was a powerful man, so gathering the ingredients didn’t take long.

Soon, they made a paste with the herbs and fed it to Miranda while she slept. After feeding her two spoonfuls, the woman began to open her tired eyes.

”What…?” Beside her, Ben gaped in shock.

Elias was leaping with joy. “Find Remus Cosby and bring him here right this instant!”

“Jean Lotus, from Centurio.” Remus flipped through the next marriage agreement, not wanting to waste a minute longer. His Master might turn up at Underhill Prison at any moment, after all. Remus had to be there to receive him.

Unfortunately, the weather channel had forecasted heavy thunderstorms for the rest of the day. Therefore, he couldn’t take any flights to return to Underhill today.

So Remus decided to go looking for a meal first.

“Am I jinxed or something?” Remus exclaimed when he spotted Kylie Cox in the restaurant he had entered. She was sitting in a private room.

Remus planned to sit outside in the common area so they wouldn’t meet.

In the private room, Kylie raised a toast. “To your health, Mr. Lawson. I hope you can consider our company’s supply of raw materials for your latest project. I promise you that we only provide the best.”

Across the table, Abel Lawson remained unfazed. “We’ll see.”

Kylie suppressed her discomfort. She had just taken over the family business, so ensuring the success of this business deal with Abel was vital.

“Is there something on your mind, Mr. Lawson? Anything I can help with?”

“You? Help?” The man gave her a disinterested glance. “Sure. Ms. Lotus from Centurio is coming to the city today. If you can help me arrange a meeting with her, I’ll agree to award Cox Corp this supply contract. Heck, all future awards will go to your company!”

Kylie gaped. She had heard that the Lotus family intended to direct their investments to Neptuna’s economy. She hadn’t expected it to be so soon.

With her current status, getting in touch with that family was nearly impossible!

The others around the table piped up. “No wonder the airport was on standby today. So it was Ms. Lotus on the plane…”

“Yeah, I bet only she could have that much influence.”

“I heard she’s like Agrasia’s Helen of Troy.”

Hearing all this, Kylie declared with a smile, “You’re all mistaken, friends. The airport didn’t go on standby because of Ms. Lotus. It was because they were arresting a criminal.”

The guests murmured in surprise. Arresting a criminal?Kylie nodded vigorously, telling them everything that had happened at the airport. She felt confident about her judgment, that she wouldn’t have to deal with Remus Cosby anymore. She even pitied him a bit. The man had escaped from prison just to meet her again, but the price of that was likely another decade in jail.“Oh, so it was just some hooligan. There I was, already preparing myself for Ms. Lotus.” Abel Lawson relaxed instantly.Since that was the case, he still had time to plan.Someone jumped at the opportunity to butter him up. “That hooligan should be taught a lesson for making Mr. Lawson worry like this.”“I’ll have my police friends find out where he’s being held and have someone break his legs!”“I have connections in prison, too. I’ll make sure that he’s taken care of every single day!”Hearing all the discussions, Kylie pitied Remus even more. Remus’ remaining days in prison didn’t sound too good. But in any c

This was the Bowen family’s butler, Mr. Anderson! He was the one who always received Abel in Elias Bowen’s house.“Mr. Anderson!” Abel ran up to greet him. “What brings you here?”“Afternoon, Mr. Anderson!”“Good day, sir.”Several other people piped up.The butler didn’t spare them a glance. Instead, he walked up to Remus and said respectfully, “I apologize for all this hostility. I’ll make sure everything is settled accordingly here.”He then turned to Kylie, barking, “How dare you insult and threaten Mr. Bowen’s esteemed guest?”Kylie flinched, staring unseeingly at the ground in shock.Beside her, the men looked around, confused. Elias Bowen’s guest? Wasn’t Remus an escaped criminal?“Apologize to Mr. Cosby right now, or you’ll regret it!” the butler barked again.Kylie’s face had paled drastically. In Neptuna, the Cox family was no match for the Bowen family. Their butler alone could sentence her to death, and no one could raise a finger in protest!Kyle was at a loss f

The Dragon Head?Elias and Brianne glanced at each other in shock upon hearing that name. Of course, they knew who he was and how influential he was in the city’s underground dealings. But what was he doing here of all places?“Welcome him inside right now!” Elias ordered. Yes, he was the richest man in the city, but he still couldn’t risk offending Anthony Mark, given his position.“Just in time. Maybe your friend knows the Dragon Head, hm?” Brianne mocked Remus once more. Most of the prisoners from Neptuna were disciples of the Dragon Head’s guild, after all. Remus’ friends might even turn tail upon seeing his boss!“Heh,” was Remus’ response. It pissed Brianne off to no end. Even Elias ground his teeth for a bit after hearing that. They were going to enjoy seeing the Dragon Head put him in his place.Just then, Mr. Anderson led Anthony in. Elias immediately greeted him with a smile. “Lady Luck has graced us with your presence, Mr. Dragon Head.”“Welcome, sir,” Brianne greeted

Wasn’t this the Working Emperor’s villa?Could she…could she be that sugar baby the man had kept around?Remus thought it might be possible. She seemed like one of those mistresses left alone without their lover.“You could live here too,” she purred, rubbing Remus’ chest. “Why don’t you go upstairs first, hm? I’ll be right there, and then we can enjoy ourselves properly.”This was the first time a woman had touched Remus. His heart felt like it might explode. He silently cursed the Working Emperor for letting this happen. He peeled away from her touch and dashed upstairs, heading right into the shower.“Hmm…” The woman laughed, then called out, “Remember to wash yourself clean and wait for me in bed!”In the next second, her expression fell, and she used her phone to order several guards to come wait in the living room. They were all dressed in tunics lined with gold.“Miss!” they greeted politely, standing in line. She had already put on modest clothes by this time. “A man s

He didn’t have any plans in Neptuna tonight. “So can you leave now?”“Nope,” Jean teased. “I still want to sleep with you. He didn’t want to risk losing his virginity back at Imperial Villa, and he had nowhere else to go.)“Did you hear that Ms. Lotus is hosting a press conference tonight?”“I heard she had come to Neptuna weeks ago to secretly observe the market and potential partners here. So he was greedy!Just then…“Heee-!” With a loud neigh, Ben’s prize horse jumped back on its hind legs, then began bucking, as if in distress. The crowd stepped back in shock. What was happening to the horse?Ben had nearly fallen off with the first buck. He gaped in shock at the horse he had tamed three years ago.He clasped onto the reins and snapped his whip, yelling, “Whoa, easy, easy! I still need to win that race! Elias knew he would only get answers by mentioning the marriage agreement.Sure enough, Anthony’s attitude did a 180-degree turn. No wonder Remus didn’t have him do anything to the Bowen family yesterday. Anthony would’ve gotten into big trouble if he had.“I see!” He chuckled. “To be frank with you, Eli, I’m not sure about Mr. Cosby’s identity either. A friend of mine asked me to help him while he’s in town. That's all.”He couldn’t reveal it was his Temple Lord who gave the order.Friend? Elias hummed. This friend must be powerful; otherwise, the Dragon Head himself wouldn’t be so subservient to Remus.“Did this friend of yours stay in prison for some time?”That must be the only way Remus had come to know this mystery person.“Yes. They’re currently still in prison.”Elias nodded to himself in understanding. Beside him, Brianne scoffed. “See? I told you Remus Cosby was just a lackey. He might just be the guy who scrubbed that other guy’s toilet for three years in prison!”E

No wonder he didn’t keep quiet or grovel before Bald Richard. Even the guy that was going to beat Remus up started to fear for his own safety.Kylie frowned. Did Remus really know the Dragon Head?Just then, Bald Richard’s phone call went through. His demeanor immediately turned sheepish as he asked, “Dragon Head, sir, are you busy right now?”“Get to the point!” Anthony snapped. Even though it emitted a haze and its body was concealed in the darkness, with no way of knowing its size, something was off about its voice and the way it spoke. Was this another beast? But when he thought about it, it made sense. The ocean was several times larger than land. If land could nurture beasts, then it was even more likely for the ocean to do the same. But what did it mean when it said "at last"?Remus asked in surprise, "Do you know me?"The scarlet eyes looked down from above with indifference. Even if I were..."A flash of white light sliced through, and its voice abruptly stopped as its body was split in two, slowly sinking to the seabed."Let's go!" Remus slowly floated up.Ribolt was so frightened that it released a stream of green liquid from its underside. Without hesitation, it quickly moved forward, let Remus get on it, and started swimming.Initially, seeing Remus not killing it, Ribolt thought Remus was easy to deceive and held a small hope of escaping. They never expected things to turn out like this. The octopus was one of the rules of the ocean, especially in this area spanning several dozen nautical miles, where no other creature dared to approach. It completely dominated this territory.Yet, all its eight tentacles were cut off with one strike. Didn't this mean it was basically rendered useless in one move? The octopus finally came to terms with reality and glared at Remus intently. It sputtered, wanting to yell at him, but was unable to find the words to continue after a long pause."What are you sputtering about, you incredibly ugly thing?"The one who spoke was the eel. Silently, Remus gave it the name Ribolt.Ribolt raised its head and said, "You should consider your status before daring to attack this human. It certainly wouldn't have claimed to have never seen humans.Remus was just about to turn around and ask the eel if there were any other forbidden areas around. But just as he did, he found the eel standing up straight before bending into an arc at the edge of the cliff. It resembled a kneeling human. It hastily said, "Your Majesty, I swear by the sun and the moon and all that's holy, I brought him here with no ill intent."While searching under the sea, I came across him and noticed he had a very unique quality—he can emit spiritual energy. Animals had a strong territorial instinct, and this was especially true for beasts. Voryn, being a beast lord, undoubtedly had its own territory. Even if it lived within a domain, the area around that domain should still be feared by other beasts."Off-limits?" the creature said thoughtfully. "Let me think..."But before it even finished speaking, countless thin blue lines appeared around its body suddenly, lighting up a large portion of the seabed in blue. These lines eventually converged into one spot and shot straight toward Remus. It was electricity. This creature was part electric eel, and its large body could generate electricity. If in the air, its electrical discharges could rival lightning. Not only would this be dangerous for humans, but even beasts at the Divine Separation Stage could be instantly electrocuted.Unfortunately, its opponent was Remus.Though surrounded by electricity, Remus' expression remained unchanged. They simply hovered in place silently, absorbing the energy.Another five minutes later, a slight smile appeared on Remus' lips. Soon after, the fish all suddenly turned to look toward the east.In the distance, in the pitch-black darkness, a pair of large yellow eyes gradually appeared. These eyes were enormous, about the size of a dining table.
