The journey had been a perilous one for Cara, dragging a man with such weight was not an easy feat. But she was not someone who could leave her friends behind. Not that she actually considered Alastair as a friend though, but he had saved her life more times than she could probably count, and that had to mean something.
The walk to the outskirts of the capital ended in a terrible shape for both of them and along the way, Cara hoped they did not encounter any more sorcerers. How would she fight them? She was defenseless and she would have to fight for Alastair as well. She was not sure she could do that. So when she was finally able to get to the house he'd shown her in the vision, she knocked like her life depended on it.It took a moment before the locks of the door gave way and the hinges creaked. The door opened and standing inside was a rather large woman in a green dress, holding candlelight in her hand with sharp green eyes. When she saw Alastair, she gasped and the candle fell from her hand."Bring him in, quickly!" She said as she assisted Cara in dragging in the large man. They lay him down on the bed that was placed on the right side of the room. Then, on the left was a large table with variable amounts of herbs and leaves and potions. There were also sages burning in the place. The woman quickly tore off Alastair's shirt and Cara gasped at the magnitude of damage he'd sustained. A tear or two fell from her eyes. That must have hurt. The woman dashed towards the table and took a stick, a potion, and a sage which she placed before him. When Alastair perceived the smell of the sage, he seemed to awaken and grumbled,"Alastair, listen to me. You are safe now. It is I, Elle. I will be healing you now." The woman said to him but then, he was about to fall asleep again, however she slapped him on the face."What did you do that for?" Cara exclaimed."He needs to stay awake for this to work. He might die in his sleep if I attempt to heal him while unconscious." The woman, Elle said."So, you're a mage?" Cara asked."Why don't we keep the questions for later?" Elle asked and placed the stick in her hand in between Alastair's teeth.Cara saw Elle's Menu pop up.
Name: Elle
Status: Healer Mage
Energy level: 300
Affiliations: Nil
Animal Companion: Cat
Then, Elle took a deep breath and stretched forth her hands to him. A bright, green light shot from her hands and rested on Alastair's body. The light just persisted that way for a while, and Cara could have sworn whatever magic she was doing was not working. But suddenly, his bones cracked. He groaned as they did, biting down on the stick as the bones continued to move and rearrange themselves. Cara could not watch. She shut her eyes as Alastair groaned in pain, perhaps the highest form of pain she'd ever seen a man experience.Elle, on the other hand, was beginning to bleed from her nostrils. But she persisted. Then, when the last of his broken ribs had snapped back into place, Elle stopped immediately, falling to the ground and quickly drinking the potion she had brought along with her.Alastair, on the other hand, had fallen asleep. His breathing was normal, and the superficial wounds on his body were healing. Cara walked down towards him and slowly sat down on the bed. She looked at him and sighed. How terribly her day had taken a new turn."Need any help with that?" Elle asked Cara as she noticed a wound on her left arm."No, thanks." She replied, seeing how weak the poor woman was already.Just then, a cat ran into the house and went to sit on Elle's lap. The cat had distinctive green eyes which seemed to match those of Elle's. Elle slowly caressed the cat's fur and it purred underneath her touch."He used magic, didn't he?" Elle asked Cara as she looked at Alastair. His wounds were completely healed at that point."Yes. He did it to save me." Cara replied and Elle arched a brow."You?"Cara nodded."Well, you must be one special child for him to do so," Elle said. That confused Cara."I don't understand." She said" I know. You see, Alastair and I met at the Elderien's keep. Do you know what that is?" Elle asked but Cara shook her head negatively. Where did Alastair find this one? She wondered."It is the place where mages are being trained in this kingdom.""How are mages made?" Cara chipped in."They aren't made. They are born with a touch from the gods.""But then there are sorcerers? Are they also born that way?""No, child. They were mages who made the decision to become eternal servants of Hades, in exchange for longevity, greater raw power, and accelerated healing. And as I was saying, Alastair and I were friends during our youth. He was such a promising student, the best amongst us, and the role model for all others to follow." She said and looked at him, smiling as she did."He became a Dragonlord at Twenty one; the first in a hundred years.""Dragonlord?""Yes. Each mage gets a special affinity with an animal once their powers have reached the Apex. They either chose the beast or the beast chose them. Just like Rheina here..." She said and caressed her cat."... Alastair got a dragon. It flew right from the sky and choose Alastair to be its master. It was a glorious day. But, even he could not resist the temptations of the darkness. I had been expelled from the Keep for saving someone I should have killed. Alastair helped me settle in. So when things went sideways, I, too, helped him settle in.""What happened?" Cara asked."He should probably tell you that himself. But know that he hasn't used his magic in sixteen years. For him to break that rule, you are one special child."Cara sighed. "But, I don't feel special." She said to Elle. She was about to reply when they both heard a loud banging at the door. The cat screeched when they heard the banging. Cara and Elle exchanged glances and as the banging came again, Elle slowly stood up.She picked up a candlelight and walked towards the door, gently opening it as she did. She spoke to someone outside the door and then, opened it for a young man who was badly wounded in the neck. He had claw marks which made Cara shudder at the sight of him."Sit. Let's take a look at that." Elle said to the young man.He looked at Cara, then at Alastair, and then at Cara again. She studied his movements. Something was not quite right. As Elle attempted to touch the wound, the young man grabbed her hand, twisted it, and quickly took out a knife which he dug into her stomach.Cara screamed as he did. He was a sorcerer. It made complete sense! He turned to grab her but Elle held on to his leg. She tried her best to stop him but he kicked her away. At that moment, Cara began to feel overwhelmed. Her heart rate had increased. She suddenly began to feel the energy around her and the sounds became louder. She closed her ears with her hands as she seemed to be hearing thoughts from miles away. And then, when the young man touched her, she screamed, unleashing the massive amount of energy that had gathered within her.She burst out in terrific flames, fixing the young man on the spot as she burned him to ash. And then, a powerful wave escaped her body and blasted the door apart, burning the other two sorcerers that were standing outside to ash as well.Elle looked in awe as she breathed on the ground, the knife still impaled in her. As Cara settled down, she slowly looked at Elle, at the cat, and then at Alastair who was gazing at her with a satisfied yet, confused look on his face.Who was she exactly? Alastair asked himself as Cara slowly looked away in shame.Related Chapters

He couldn't do that. They could have taken a horse, infact, Alastair had found one which belonged to a man named Osmond but he had insisted Alastair paid fifty gold pieces for it. Whimpers and soft cries woke him up. He sat up slowly and looked at Cara who was crying in her sleep. Her body was smoky, and the space around her was hot, very hot. Alastair slowly approached her. The sun rose up in all its glory as Alastair and Cara descended down the hill that led to the Elderien's keep. Like she always maintained, she was silent throughout the rest of the walk. But that time, Alastair did not want to bring up the issue that she just returned from the dead. She had something powerful within her and perhaps not pushing her was the right thing to do at that moment. They continued to descend further and took the little path which cut through a little bush-path. As it was early in the morning, no one was seen along the way. The walk continued in silence until Cara suddenly decided to break the silence."I died, did I not?" She started, Alastair looking at her she spoke."When I fell from the cliff, I died, right?" She asked again."Yes. You did. You do not remember?" Alastair asked her. A fly suddenly buzzed across her face and she smacked it with her palm. The buzzing always irritated her and she found bees even worse."I remember falling. I remember feeling li

He looked down on them both and then crunched, his bones cracking as he did. He slowly took Alastair's face in his hand and looked at him."You have grown thinner over the years. Perhaps life hasn't treated you well?" The old man said and Cara watched as Alastair sobbed."Master...""You should not have come back here Alastair." The old man said and stood up, walking away from him."I know, master Orion. But I just need you to take her in. She is a mage and she needs your wisdom." Alastair said and Orion looked at Cara."You risked your life to bring her to me. Who is she? Your daughter?" Orion asked but Alastair did not reply. Then, he directed his gaze towards Cara."What is your name, child?""Cara." "And you are a mage?"" He says so." Cara said and looked at Alastair. "Hm." Orion added and walked away."Throw Alastair out of this city...""But master Orion, the judgement was passed!" Blaize objected. But Orion continued"...take the child to the Inyens. The Elderien Chronicles The Royal Party
She could hear the cheers from the men inside the large hall and that made her sigh. Yet again, another cheer erupted and as the voices seemed to shake the foundations of the castle itself, Miranda shuddered. Why could they take so much joy and privilege in doing unnecessary Things? She knew she was not perfect, however, she understood the responsibility that came with being a royal. Most of the time, a royal would have to forfeit their happiness for the sake of the people. That was a fact that, sadly, her older brother did not understand."Argh!" She exclaimed as the maid pulled the ropes behind her dress tighter than she'd expected. For the sake of the ridiculous party, she was meant to wear the ridiculous dress as well. The maid, however, did not appear to read her mind. She just kept on with her business."Oh!"Another pull. However, at that time, the maid stopped and looked at her."Did I do something wrong, princess?" She asked politely. She was about Sixteen or seventeen

As usual and as expected, everyone's eyes fell on her. She took care and calculated steps as she walked into the Hall. The entire hall was silent for a moment as all got transfixed by her beauty. She could feel the eyes of some of the men undressing her already, some of the women looked at her with admiration but others, like her dear cousin Bianca, were probably killing her over and over in their heads. She did not care about that. Her eyes roamed the hall and she could see her older brother, Kevin who was standing with a woman and smiling at her. Then, she noticed a peering eye from the sides and turned to see her eldest brother Richmond, gazing at her with spite. He was the heir to the throne as tradition demanded for he was the oldest and he was male. But he felt strongly intimidated by her. Well, how could he not, when she managed to steal his party for herself? As it was customary, Miranda proceeded to pay her respects to her father who looked delighted to see her, but fr

"Hello Miranda" Alastair said as he walked closer, watching her as she tightened her grip on the sword. She had not expected to see him inside her room, but there they were. So when she unsheathed her sword and pointed it at him, he took a step back, receding from the anger that was written all over her face."Bastard!" She cursed at him."I know how you feel at this moment..." He hadn't finished the statement when she swung her sword in an attempt to wound him. He quickly jerked back, dodging the strike before it could do any damage. "Miranda, just listen to me!" He yelled but she did not stop. She came right at him again, distracting him with her sword before she kicked him in the stomach. He groaned but he did not hit her. He was not even fighting."Miranda..." Another charge escaped her lips and she pointed the sword at him, in an attempt to cut him down. He caught the sword and held on to it even as it made him bleed."Why are you not fighting? She whispered and Alastair hid with Cara. Miranda pulled off her hood as the guards walked past her, paying their respects as they did. Then, she turned around to gesture to them to come outside but just before they did, Miranda felt another presence."Where are you going in a cloak?" Her brother, Richmond suddenly said to her. She turned around, looking him in the eye. He was angry. He always looked that way towards her."How is that any concern of yours? She asked him and he walked even closer, the smell of alcohol and women following him like a second companion."You are my sister. It is my duty to protect you." He said and she laughed."More like monitor me. You have never looked at me like your sister Richmond. You have always felt anger towards me whenever you look at me or am I lying?""

The captain was no longer with them. She was busy shouting orders, screaming at the men, and cursing them as they worked. Considering the fact that she was much smaller than most of the men on the ship, it was a funny sight to see.She soon sent Alastair a gaze and nodded to him. Alastair returned the gesture. As soon as the captain looked away, Alastair smiled softly. The time was finally approaching, and there was nothing to stop destiny from unfolding. She could remember the smell of her own flesh and the moment that hit her, her face twitched a little. She took a deep breath and pointed the crossbow at Cara. "You didn't even ask for her name." Cara said to Alastair as they walked down the busy road. Their short time at the pub had not turned out the way Alastair hoped. He just kept walking in silence, and the silence was what made Cara uncomfortable."I did not need to," Alastair replied and she scoffed."Why not? She was clearly into you and you liked her as well. What is stopping you?" Cara asked, but then she realized how insensitive her statement was. She should not say such things about Alastair's relationship."Is it because of Miranda?" She asked but he was silent."How do you know she is still waiting for you?" Cara asked again but Alastair still said nothing. She was right. He did not know. But the thing bothering him was that he might not live to find out. "I... I do not want to forget her. I want to cherish our memories together until there is nothing left of me. The night still ravaged on as Alastair and Cara kept walking down the streets. Alastair got the chance to see more of the town, like he had secretly desired. The town was a beautiful place, quite exotic as well.He did not know if it were the decorations, or the thrill in the air but he was certain that that town had seen alot of bad days in the past and they were trying to make out the future as best as they can. He could see a young woman and two kids which looked like they were hers. The woman glanced at him and smiled, a smile which melted Alastair's heart. The journey was quiet, and although the moonlight shone upon them like the ever glowing beam of light that it is, Cara was not feeling it. She just kept walking, a step behind Alastair. Her head was bowed, her fists were clenched. Her nails were digging into her palms, although not enough to give her an injury, it still hurt.Maybe she wanted it to hurt. Maybe she just wanted to feel something at the end of the day. She had been so hollow ever since the fight. She could feel Asmodeus crawling around in her mind. She could feel the Phoenix slowly regressing. She could feel the terror that was coming, very one that she was destined to bring upon the world."Are you alright?" Alastair asked her, snapping her out of it. She nodded quickly and looked at him for a moment. "You look disturbed. Is there anything you would like to talk about?" Alastair asked her again but she shook her head. He decided not to press her. If she was ready to talk, she would."Do you miss it? Everything else bef

An energy blast escaped from cara's body and hit all those that were in close proximity to her, James and Denise included. The force of the blast was so powerful that it took them off their feet and crashed them onto the ground. Cara let out a guttural growl as energy began to radiate from her body. The red, hot, energy began to gush out even more as her powers levitated her slowly. The growls continued, and so did the fear on lord Karl's face. He has never seen anything like that. He and his followers were not sure of what to do at that point. They slowly stood to their feet and watched as she stretched out her hand toward them. Her yellow eyes fell on them and with a sudden spark, her energy surged again. This time, it did not hit James and Denise. Both were surprised that the energy phased right through them to hit a sorcerer standing behind them and when they turned around, their eyes beheld a horror unlike what they knew before. The sorcerer's body froze. Was she dead, or was she dreaming? She gazed at Fristborn's face and in that split second, she reached out to touch him.But someone else quickly grabbed her hand and she turned and saw Denise standing there. Her eyes roamed back to 'fristborn' but was actually James that was kneeling beside her. She blushed in embarrassment as she quickly say up. They were no longer in the house. From what Cara could see, they were some distance away from the house and it was not too quiet. She could still hear the sounds of guards running around, trying to look for them. The three of them remained silent for a while."What happened?" Cara asked as she rubbed her eyes. It felt like she slept for a long time."You fainted," Denise replied to her.
