The sorcerer stood outside the large space just anterior to Alastair's house and he watched as the Vines crept up the walls of his house.
Then, as the largest branch of the creeping vines wrapped around the door and pulled it away, Cara screamed again, clinging closer to Alastair that time. Outside, he could see a sorcerer standing, hands stretched sideways with drops of blood hitting the ground at intervals.Alastair had an idea of what to do, so he grabbed Cara's hand tightly."We will leave this place now. Get ready." He said to her and she nodded. Not that she really understood what he was talking about, but for the sake of that very moment, she just did what her mind told her to do.Alastair sighed and in one swift movement, attempted to dash out of the house, holding Cara's hand. But the sorcerer standing outside his house suddenly controlled a swarm of large, climbing vines at them. The swarm quickly United into a large mass and hurled at them, but Alastair formed a large shield and blocked the attack. The Vines destroyed the shield, but it stopped their movements nevertheless.Just then, one of the Vines grabbed Cara. She screamed as the vine dragged her along the ground, trying desperately to cling onto something, but it was futile. Alastair sprang into action. He shot a bright orb of white energy at the large vine that had grabbed Cara and broke it into two. The sorcerer snarled as he did, and proceeded to inflict even a larger wound on herself. Cara quickly stood up and began to run towards Alastair as the sorcerer prepared herself for another attack. She conjured a large mass of black smoke which brought the winds to the scene as she did. She appeared to be gathering the wind into the smoky mass and when she shot it at Alastair, he formed a shield, blocked the attack, and fell on his knees, clapping his hands on the ground as he did.A telekinetic wave of energy escaped from the impact and pushed the mass of smoke back to the sorcerer who could not deflect it in time. The mass hit her, sending her flying in the air before she hit the ground with a cry.Cara was amazed. She'd never seen anything like that before. But the moment did not last for as the sorcerer fell to the ground, something gigantic was running towards Alastair."Watch out!" Cara screamed but Alastair was not fast enough. The humanoid bear that was running towards him collided with him, grabbed him, and jumped in the air before they both crashed to the ground with Alastair under the beast's weight.Cara gasped as they fell. She was certain Alastair had died. There was no way he could survive such a fall, especially with a beast of that magnitude pressing him to the ground. So when the beast rose, shook its head, and turned to her, she felt her heart jump within her and she turned to run away. She cried as she did, and from a corner of her eye, she could see the sorcerer standing up. The beast was closing in on her, her legs were too weak to outrun something like that. She persisted but then she missed her step and fell."Argh!" She cried out as her knee bruised, but as she turned to see how far the beast had come, it suddenly grabbed her from the ground and threw her towards the sorcerer who, at that time, had already conjured a large root to grab her.She screamed as she flew in midair, but just before the root could grab her, a telekinetic orb wrapped itself around her and shielded her from the root. The root hit the orb, cracking it a bit before it descended to the ground. Then it rolled away from the sorcerer's location and finally shattered as Cara landed at a safe distance.Cara looked at Alastair who was struggling to stand up. One of his legs was broken and his left arm did not look so good.He had bruises all over his face and his nose bled profusely. The sorcerer snarled at him and the beast growled loudly. Then it jumped towards Alastair again who quickly shielded himself from its attack.Another punch came his way which shattered the shield Alastair had erected. But when he wanted to attack, the beast growled and jumped, giving enough space for a sudden tremor that occurred underneath the ground where Alastair stood.Alastair shielded himself but a large vine wrapped itself around his right arm and pulled it, dislocating it immediately. Alastair groaned as it did but then, another branch caught his left arm that was already broken."No!" Cara cried out but as she did, vines wrapped themselves around her legs, fixing her to the spot. She struggled to break free, but she couldn't.Then, in one precise move, the beast dashed toward Alastair and punched him in the chest. He crashed to the ground, his ribs broken in several places and blood escaping from his mouth and nostrils."Give up, mage. You cannot do anything else in that state. I am only here for the girl. You do not need to throw your life away." The sorcerer said to Alastair as he struggled to breathe. No, that could not be the end.He closed his eyes as the beast growled before him, a growl of triumph he presumed. Then he heard Cara's cries of resistance as the sorcerer pulled her along. His entire body was getting weaker by the passing second and he knew what he needed to do. He sighed at the choice he was about to make, but sometimes, one must break the rules to serve the greater good.He closed his eyes and felt his magic connect with that of the blood around him. He was about to use blood magic, the gift from Hades itself. As he offered up his blood to the dark beyond, the Vines that wrapped Cara's legs suddenly dried up and broke. The beast tried to attack him again but vines, large ones, burst out of the ground and wrapped themselves around it, twisting the beast as they crushed it.The sorcerer snarled and tried to attack again but Alastair redirected her own strike against her and sent her crashing to the ground. She was immediately knocked out. Cara rushed to him and helped him stand, but he had several fractures in his body.As he suddenly lost consciousness, he sent her a map of the exact place she was to go. It amazed her how he could do that but she did not delay.Dragging him along with all of her might, she set off for the healer's place he'd shown her.The journey had been a perilous one for Cara, dragging a man with such weight was not an easy feat. But she was not someone who could leave her friends behind. Not that she actually considered Alastair as a friend though, but he had saved her life more times than she could probably count, and that had to mean something. The walk to the outskirts of the capital ended in a terrible shape for both of them and along the way, Cara hoped they did not encounter any more sorcerers. How would she fight them? She was defenseless and she would have to fight for Alastair as well. She was not sure she could do that. So when she was finally able to get to the house he'd shown her in the vision, she knocked like her life depended on it.It took a moment before the locks of the door gave way and the hinges creaked. The door opened and standing inside was a rather large woman in a green dress, holding candlelight in her hand with sharp green eyes. When she saw Alastair, she gasped and the candle fel
Neither of them spoke about what happened. As Alastair Led the way through the thick forest with Cara walking absentmindedly behind him, he wanted to bring up the conversation about the tremendous amount of power she had displayed earlier. He wanted to read her mind, to see what was going on there but that felt like a violation of her privacy. He couldn't do that. They could have taken a horse, infact, Alastair had found one which belonged to a man named Osmond but he had insisted Alastair paid fifty gold pieces for it. It was a bloody rip-off but old Osmond was considering how desperate they looked and how late at night it was.But Alastair refused to purchase the horse. They decided to walk instead. Besides, the gods were wise for creating mankind with a pair of legs.So as they kept on walking, Alastair comforted himself with the chatter of the owls that filled the air. He'd always sort of loved the creatures, although most people found them extremely creepy.Alastair took another p
Whimpers and soft cries woke him up. He sat up slowly and looked at Cara who was crying in her sleep. Her body was smoky, and the space around her was hot, very hot. Alastair slowly approached her. Tears dropped from the sides of her face as she kept on dreaming. The space was becoming even hotter and he knew he needed to wake her up. But when he touched her hand, he suddenly gasped as he got sucked into her nightmare.Fire.A village was burning and the fire was spreading rapidly. People ran as best they could, mother's trying to keep their children safe. It was not dragon's flames, it was something else. The fire had a source and he needed to find Cara at that moment. Perhaps that was what she feared, the nightmare. Perhaps that was her village getting destroyed.A woman bumped into him as he staggered through the crowd. It was getting more difficult to navigate through as more people kept pouring out. Something had formed an invisible barrier around the entire village, preventin
The sun rose up in all its glory as Alastair and Cara descended down the hill that led to the Elderien's keep. Like she always maintained, she was silent throughout the rest of the walk. But that time, Alastair did not want to bring up the issue that she just returned from the dead. She had something powerful within her and perhaps not pushing her was the right thing to do at that moment. They continued to descend further and took the little path which cut through a little bush-path. As it was early in the morning, no one was seen along the way. The walk continued in silence until Cara suddenly decided to break the silence."I died, did I not?" She started, Alastair looking at her she spoke."When I fell from the cliff, I died, right?" She asked again."Yes. You did. You do not remember?" Alastair asked her. A fly suddenly buzzed across her face and she smacked it with her palm. The buzzing always irritated her and she found bees even worse."I remember falling. I remember feeling li
He looked down on them both and then crunched, his bones cracking as he did. He slowly took Alastair's face in his hand and looked at him."You have grown thinner over the years. Perhaps life hasn't treated you well?" The old man said and Cara watched as Alastair sobbed."Master...""You should not have come back here Alastair." The old man said and stood up, walking away from him."I know, master Orion. But I just need you to take her in. She is a mage and she needs your wisdom." Alastair said and Orion looked at Cara."You risked your life to bring her to me. Who is she? Your daughter?" Orion asked but Alastair did not reply. Then, he directed his gaze towards Cara."What is your name, child?""Cara." "And you are a mage?"" He says so." Cara said and looked at Alastair. "Hm." Orion added and walked away."Throw Alastair out of this city...""But master Orion, the judgement was passed!" Blaize objected. But Orion continued"...take the child to the Inyens. They will tell us what we
She could hear the cheers from the men inside the large hall and that made her sigh. Yet again, another cheer erupted and as the voices seemed to shake the foundations of the castle itself, Miranda shuddered. Why could they take so much joy and privilege in doing unnecessary Things? She knew she was not perfect, however, she understood the responsibility that came with being a royal. Most of the time, a royal would have to forfeit their happiness for the sake of the people. That was a fact that, sadly, her older brother did not understand."Argh!" She exclaimed as the maid pulled the ropes behind her dress tighter than she'd expected. For the sake of the ridiculous party, she was meant to wear the ridiculous dress as well. The maid, however, did not appear to read her mind. She just kept on with her business."Oh!"Another pull. However, at that time, the maid stopped and looked at her."Did I do something wrong, princess?" She asked politely. She was about Sixteen or seventeen
As usual and as expected, everyone's eyes fell on her. She took care and calculated steps as she walked into the Hall. The entire hall was silent for a moment as all got transfixed by her beauty. She could feel the eyes of some of the men undressing her already, some of the women looked at her with admiration but others, like her dear cousin Bianca, were probably killing her over and over in their heads. She did not care about that. Her eyes roamed the hall and she could see her older brother, Kevin who was standing with a woman and smiling at her. Then, she noticed a peering eye from the sides and turned to see her eldest brother Richmond, gazing at her with spite. He was the heir to the throne as tradition demanded for he was the oldest and he was male. But he felt strongly intimidated by her. Well, how could he not, when she managed to steal his party for herself? As it was customary, Miranda proceeded to pay her respects to her father who looked delighted to see her, but fr
"Hello Miranda" Alastair said as he walked closer, watching her as she tightened her grip on the sword. She had not expected to see him inside her room, but there they were. So when she unsheathed her sword and pointed it at him, he took a step back, receding from the anger that was written all over her face."Bastard!" She cursed at him."I know how you feel at this moment..." He hadn't finished the statement when she swung her sword in an attempt to wound him. He quickly jerked back, dodging the strike before it could do any damage. "Miranda, just listen to me!" He yelled but she did not stop. She came right at him again, distracting him with her sword before she kicked him in the stomach. He groaned but he did not hit her. He was not even fighting."Miranda..." Another charge escaped her lips and she pointed the sword at him, in an attempt to cut him down. He caught the sword and held on to it even as it made him bleed."Why are you not fighting? I want you to fight. Fight!" She
