The man walked closer to Alastair, and as he approached, he could sense something eerie about him.
Alastair took a step forward toward the man, an attempt to match his energy. Then he raised his head and looked him in the eye.He smiled as Alastair did. What was he hiding? What secret lay beneath that deceptive smile of his? And why the hell was he even smiling at them in the first place? He was not a mage, that much Alastair could tell, and he was not a sorcerer either. So what was he exactly?"Good morning folks. Seems like you two are lost. Is there anything you need my help with?" The man asked Alastair and smiled again."We are fine, thanks." He slowly replied. The man arched his brow and did not seem to believe him. But that was his problem. He then looked at the bartender who seemed to jerk back in fear.Whoever he was, he definitely scared the shit out of her."Were they talking to you, love?" He asked her but she shook her head negatively. The air was getting tense already. Alastair could sense Cara getting uncomfortable and whoever he was, he could not just do that. But then, he suddenly looked at Cara and walked towards her, however, Alastair stood between them, looking him in the eye and giving him a Stern look."Enjoy the rest of your day, sir." He said to him and gestured to Cara for them to leave. They were about to when the man attempted to touch Cara's hair, but Alastair was quicker. He grabbed the man's hand and twisted it, making the man yell in pain. The man tapped out and mumbled something inaudible as Alastair left the bar with Cara.He could still feel his eyes on them as they moved along. Bloody freak."What was that"?Cara asked as they left the bar. Alastair took her hand, leading her through the streets that were getting flooded by people. It appeared like a hundred persons were coming out every minute and that was when Cara was able to realize that Rheina was indeed a center for commerce."I do not know who he is. Something about him seems off and I do not want us near him. Understand?" He asked her and she nodded."What are the chances that we will run into him again?" Cara asked."I do not know, Cara. I am not a seer. But I can say that it is pretty slim. So, why don't we just keep our head on mission?" Alastair said,"By mission, do you mean finding the captain who dances with the sun or whatever, or do you mean princess Miranda?" Cara asked.Alastair suddenly felt weird being asked that question. He looked at her carefully."What are you trying to say?""Oh, come on. I saw the way you too were brooding after each other. I know something happened between you two. I want to know what it is and why you abandoned her for sixteen years.""Do not speak about things you do not understand."Alastair said and glided through a massive crowd that was headed their way. Turns out, someone had fainted and needed care."But you did abandon her, didn't you? You left her all alone. You couldn't even write one letter? Not even a vision or something?" She scoffed. "That's cold, even for you."The words hit Alastair like arrows. He sighed and for the first time in Sixteen years, actually thought about what happened between them both. He had broken her heart, he'd let her down and the very first moment he showed up back in her life, he was asking for something."Look, the princess and I had a complicated past. We met when the king took me in as a palace mage. It was instantaneous. I had already gotten pompous and I was quite promiscuous but she accepted me for who I was. I was a different person then. I was young and I made mistakes but afterward, I just couldn't face her. So I guess sixteen years was the time it took me to finally gather the courage to see her again. " Alastair said to Cara and she nodded."But you still need to make things right between the both of you. I mean, she's single, and you're single. If you ask me, I would say she's waiting for you.""Aren't you too young to know about these things? In my days, sixteen years olds covered their ears in shame and run inside when they heard adults speaking about such things."Cara laughed out so loud that some passerby's looked at her."Times have changed old man.""I am not old.""Well, you definitely behave like you are."Alastair scoffed. If she did not have such a great destiny, perhaps he would have parted ways with her already. She was a thorn in his flesh and her words were always bigger than her."Let's keep our heads down. We do not want to attract unwanted attention." Alastair added and they continued their search for the mysterious captain. But along the way, no one they asked seemed ready to provide any useful information about the captain. Most of the people didn't even know who he was.Alastair could even recall that one of the people he asked suggested that he never asked about such a "deviant" again. The rest of the day went by without any luck so they decided to get a place to sleep and think about their next step of action.Alastair had decided to take drastic measures to find the captain. To read the memories of others, he needed to touch people, and the touch needed to last for more than a moment so that the magic can kick in. And it was energy-consuming.But no one would want a strange man touching them for so long, so he decided to cast a spell to read their minds instead. Reading minds was brief and he doubted he could get the information he truly needed. But still, it was worth the shot.As he was not a telepath by nature, he needed to find a way to get the blood from someone he suspected had the information he desired, and used it in dark magic.'Desperate times call for desperate measures". He repeated severally. He needed information and that was the only way he could get it. He did not have time to let the sleeping dog lie as mages would do.They kept on walking in an attempt to find a place to spend the night. The night was already upon them and the moonlight was not giving much illumination.Alastair and Cara took an alley, but along the way, Alastair noticed someone was following them.He glanced over his shoulder and saw two men walking stealthily toward them. If they were thieves, they had picked the wrong person to rob. He just kept waking with Cara by his side, luring them out of the alley so that he can keep Cara out of harm's way as he dealt with them.Things were about to get interesting...The moment they stepped out of the alley, Alastair turned around and shot a telekinetic blast at the men which suspended them in the air before they crashed to the ground. The move surprised Cara for she jumped to the side. Apparently, she had not noticed the men following them. How could she? She was just a little girl without any training. The men tried to stand but their bodies were too weak to comply. Alastair moved towards them but at that moment, he felt a knife flying his way. He quickly stopped and dodged the knife and ducked as another knife hurled at him. Then two men stepped out of a corner, holding swords with which they attacked him. He punched the ground and a wave of energy swept them all off their feet. They all fell, groaning in pain as their bones dislocated. But then, the knives came again. The one who was throwing the knives was a short man with incredible acrobatic skills. He threw the knives with much precision and accuracy that one of them managed to hit
"Alastair!"His eyes suddenly opened when he heard someone call his name. The voice sounded like thunder and it roared through his entire body. As the smell of rancidity hit him, he realized that he might have known who it was that called him. There he was, standing on a rock, beneath which lava flowed like a stream. The lava was extensive and it almost surrounded the rock on which he stood. The rancid smell continued to hit his nose but he did not know where it was coming from. Something was definitely off."Alastair!"He heard the voice again. It sounded like Jaghryx, but at the same time, it sounded like Asmodeus. He took a look around. It was obvious that he was in some vision like the one Asmodeus had pulled him in before. He just needed to find him and find a way to wake up. He knew he was having it hot in the real world and the last thing he needed was Asmodeus' troubles."Come to me...."Came a faint whisper. The whisper came again and he saw the lava on the ground drying up.
"Woah! Someone had a nightmare."The captain teased as Alastair breathed heavily like the air would get sucked away from him if he even relents. He moved his arms slowly, the magical chair still grasping him in place. The captain walked closer to him and crunched, gazing into his eyes before she placed her hand on his shoulder and gave it a light squeeze."What did you see, Alastair? What visions did those pretty eyes of yours experience?" She asked, still squeezing his shoulder. He shrugged, causing her to remove her hands from his shoulder."If you are really desperate for a vision, why don't you unbind me from this chair? I will give you all the visions you could ever possibly think of." Alastair said to her. She thought for a second, walked towards Alastair, and slowly roamed her hand through the straps that were holding him in place. Was she truly going to do it? Alastair wondered. She kept on touching the straps, but then, she burst out into laughter."And did you think I woul
Alastair spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how he was going to break the wraith's magic. He was running out of time and he knew it. If he had not been alarmed before then, it wasn't so for his entire body was screaming with alertness. To make matters worse, he could not tell what the time was. The cell they placed him in barely had a source of light. The strong, brick walls that held up the cell called out to him, telling him that he was not going to find a way out of the mess he was in. He suspected he was done. But could he truly be? He had dinner in the past, he was well aware of that fact. Although he deserved to die for what he did to that girl, he had to live for Cara. His being alive would benefit him and the world around him better than his death. So, he closed his eyes again, took a deep breath, and focused his mind on the energy pulsating from the chain. He noticed something."Four-three-four-two-four-one-four-three..."The energy had a rhythm that gave differen
Alastair conjured a shield around himself and proceeded to walk into the burning harem. One of the supports for the front door pulled off and hit his shield, bouncing off as It did. He walked inside, the flames and smoke almost blinding him. The heat and the smoke could Still penetrate through the shield. But he did not stop. He kept walking, looking from one room to the other."Cara!" He called out as he passed from one room to the other, the ceiling falling on his shield as he did. The fire was getting even hotter but he persisted. He kept on going, reinforcing his shield as he did."Cara!"He called out again but there was no reply. There were a lot of dead Bodies on the ground and as he kept on walking, he realized that he no longer felt the sudden tension he used to feel whenever he saw fire and bodies. Was he slowly getting free from the guilt the past held on him? Was his desire to protect Cara stronger than the losses and pain he had suffered? He realized it was. He needed to
Damek took a deep breath as he inhaled the smoke from the sage he was burning. His eyes rolled to the top of his eyes, the energy from the smoke filling him with its essence. One of the sorcerers standing there walked towards him, his bare feet slapping the ground as he picked up another large sage and lit it on fire. The sage burned, bringing out smoke that Damek quickly inhaled."Master, shall we bring in the blood?"The same sorcerer asked him. Damek could barely remember his name, not in that state anyway. He raised his hand and gestured for them to bring it inside the dark cave they were in. The only source of light in the cave were tiny candles which lit up the other part of the cave where bones, sages, and charms were located. But for where Damek knelt, there was only darkness.Damek coughed, and a soft growl escaped his lips. He turned around as the sorcerers brought in the blood inside a bowl and placed it before him. He crawled towards the bowl and in the next moment, dug hi
Miranda wondered how the mages were able to find out about where she would be taking Alastair. At first, she could not make them out but then she realized that they were palace Mages. There was no way they could have known about Alastair's presence.Unless one of them has been spying on her. But she refused to believe that. It was creepy and it did not make any sense. And besides, she did not know of any mage in the palace with such skill. However, she decided to keep her head down for some time. She was genuinely worried about Alastair, and also for the little girl with him. Such a delicate child is being dragged into the complicated world of magic and mages. She wished there was more she could do for them, perhaps go to Reina to find them? And then, do what exactly? She sighed. Her emotions were getting the best of her. She needed a clear head and she was not going to get that thinking of Alastair. As she stepped out of her quarters, she seemed to see a chatter among the maids. She
Miranda felt betrayed as the horse trudged along. Her mind was warping through a lot of things. She just could not understand how she could have read the signs wrong. She had never been wrong about people. What changed? What happened?A large dog ran out of the bush and quickly stopped as Miranda's horse nearly stepped on it. Miranda looked at the animal and traced its sight as the dog barked at something. It was a snake! The snake was on the other side of the tiny bush path Miranda and Hela had taken. Looking at the dog bark at the snake and its unending attempt to attack the creature suddenly gave her an idea. What if she was not wrong? What if Turin was innocent? Where and how exactly did Richmond get his evidence? She thought for a moment. There was only one way she could know. She needed to hear it directly from Turin's mouth. They took the final turn and entered the palace vicinity. Her hood was still raised, covering most of her face."Princess, look, they are taking him away.
