"Of course we remember," one of the men snapped, his frustration evident. "He was disowned and banished after his father discovered he was behind the attack and framed his own brother for it. But what does that have to do with saving ourselves?"

"Gosh, how can you be so shortsighted?" Mr. Turner groaned, slamming his hand against his forehead. "If Mr. Wade were still here, he'd understand exactly what I mean. The rest of you are no better than children!”

Mr. Turner sighed, lowering his voice to a near whisper. “We all know how obsessed Alexander has always been with becoming the heir. What if we join forces with him, convince him to reclaim what he believes is rightfully his? He’s selfish and ruthless—he’ll agree. Not only would we save ourselves, but we’d also form a powerful alliance with the new Gibson heir once he takes control.”

The other three men exchanged uneasy glances, they were clearly not buying with Mr. Turner’s idea.
