Chapter Thirty Nine

The ride back to Sheila's family house was quiet and awkward, with both Sheila and Frank edgy. Sheila sat at the passenger seat looking out the window and occasionally her eyes darted unintentionally to her phone, while Frank sat stiffly with his gaze completely on the road, tapping the steering wheel with his fingers.

Frank glanced back at Sheila whose gaze was fixed outside the window and he bit down on his lower lip, moving his gaze back to the road. He knew what was probably running through her mind at the moment, and although he should be disturbed that she was currently thinking about her ex, usually the thought unnerves him but today even he was thinking about Keith Thompson. He couldn't get over the way Keith had sounded on the phone, he had been too calm, too unconcerned, and with a hint of excitement that made Frank feel like he was the prey about to get chased down by a predator.
