Without hesitation, the leader gestured at one side of the gang when five men with knives, sticks and broken glass came out to attack Dario first.

They already planned their fighting strategy before coming. Though they didn’t plan anything serious since they were going against just one man.

The first five men came against Dario while the air echoed with the chuckles of the remaining men and the sound of their sticks repeatedly slammed against their palm lightly as they watched the scene unfold.

Dario had a gun but the bullets in the gun won’t be able to take out one third of these men so Dario saved it for later. Now he’d use his fist and any weapon he could lay his hands on.

One of them lunged forward, swinging a metal pipe with deadly accuracy. Dario ducked just in time, the pipe whistling past his ear, and without wasting any time, he countered with a swift heavy kick to the man’s abdomen. The man staggered backward, clutching his abdomen in agony while he coughed repeatedly, sp

Dario took the doctor to Maria’s private room in the hospital. She looked more pale and her lips were dry and cracked. Her breathing was also still weak and so was her pulse. When they got to the room, they met three doctors in the room that had attended to Maria with Bruce. “Welcome, young master,” Bruce said, slightly bowing. “What happened to you?!” he asked, his brows furrowed at the sight of how Dario looked. He looked like he had engaged in a fight because he had blood stains on his clothes and a wrapped injury on his arm. Earlier, when Dario went to pick doctor Kay from his home, the doctor treated the cut on his arm and dressed it.“It’s nothing serious, Bruce. I’m fine.”Seeing Dario, one of the doctors immediately said, “Mr Dario, we’ve already done the best we can for your mother. We’re really sorry to say this, but there’s nothing else we can do.”“If there’s nothing else you can do, then you can leave!” Dario said, his tone laced with irritation. “Someone else is here t

During the hour of wait, Maria’s skin began to regain its original complexion slowly. Her once pale skin became less pale as the clock ticked. The concussion had begun to adsorb the toxins from every part of her body. “Her skin is changing,” one of the doctors nudged the other and whispered to him. The other doctor pursed his lips disdainfully, “What bullshit! Are you seeing things? Because I can’t see anything!”“This old man will only embarrass himself!”They all waited for an hour, checking their watches as they mentally hastened the time. When the hour was finally over, one of them screamed, drawing everyone’s attention, “it’s already been an hour and nothing has happened!”“Old man, all you did here was crap! It’s not even scientifically proven but you brought your sorry ass here to waste everyone’s time!”Another doctor, Chris, said, “Mr Dario, I’m sorry on this old wretched man’s behalf. You shouldn’t have even given him a chance at all!”The old man kept mute and only watche

Elizabeth’s anger boiled as she approached Dario too with calculated steps. Watching her soldiers fall one by one, crushed by the Persian Empire’s forces twisted her guts and she couldn’t stop thinking about it as she stared at Dario. ‘I’m going to kill you today!’ she thought to herself with fierce determination. She had made up her mind as her helicopter descended that either her or Dario would die today. And she was certain that she was not going to be the one.Dario on the other hand wondered who Elizabeth thought she was to land uninvited in his empire. The audacity was as outrageous as it was infuriating.‘Unwise audacity has always been her thing. When I’m done with her, she would wish she didn’t make this choice,’ Dario said to himself. Their gaze remained fixed on each other and time seemed slow. Suddenly, Elizabeth reached out to her gun and started shooting at Dario. Every single thing around was a testament to his journey. He closed his eyes and leaned back against the throne, allowing his mind to drift and be filled with the memories of his past. The thoughts of days when he had nothing, when survival was a daily struggle, and he and Maria had to scavenge abandoned leftovers on the street. Those days, when they returned to their home on the street after going out to scavenge for food, Maria would ask, “what did you find?”And Dario would also ask, “Were you able to get plenty?”The bitter cold nights coupled with the gnawing hunger and the hopelessness that often threatened to consume him. But he also remembered the moment things got a little bit better; when Sir Davis miraculously came around. It was still hard but it got better. Please, to what do I owe this pleasure?”The president glanced at his associates with relief evident on his face and answered, “I will just cut to the chase. We’re here today because over the past months, it has become clear what the people have chosen.”Dario took a second to try to understand what exactly the president meant and was driving at. “What the people have chosen?” he asked. “Yes, Mr Dario.
