Everyone in the dining room immediately sneered at Alden for his arrogant behavior. In their hearts, they laughed and imagined Alden would become a homeless person in the days to come.
Without wasting any time, Alden made his way to Rose's bedroom and found the divorce documents and the $50,000 check. Without hesitation, Alden signed the documents without touching the check in the slightest.
Before leaving, Alden let out a quiet sigh because he had held onto a red rose in his hand and felt foolish. Indifferently, he replaced the withered rose in the vase with a fresh one.
Goodbye, Rosy!
After the divorce, Alden decided to leave Rose's luxurious home. As he passed through the dining room, Rose's mother grinned as she saw Alden leave without taking a single thing with him. She couldn't resist making a comment, "Thank goodness, this useless man had the decency not to take anything from his ex-wife's house!"
Rose's brother chimed in, "It's only right, Mom! Rose's success is the result of her own hard work! So he doesn't deserve a single penny of Rose's wealth!"
Although being repeatedly called useless, Alden felt indifferent. To him, they were not even worth as much as the ants on the side of the road. No matter how much he did for Rosy, it was all over now. and there was no point explaining.
Rose's brother glared at Alden challengingly, "F**k! How pathetic, you don’t even dare talk back. All you can do is sit idly in that small herbal shop and rot away. My sister made the right choice to divorce rubbish like you!”
"You’re indeed a group of ignorant and innocent bugs who know nothing about what I did for you.”
Everyone immediately burst into laughter upon hearing Alden's words. "Were you bragging just now? Who do you think you are?”
Alden’s lips slightly curled up with contempt, "Bragging? Well, bugs might find it difficult to understand human languages, but if bugs still have a brain, you can surely comprehend my words."
Leaving these words behind, Alden walked towards the exit. He didn’t bother to look back. Explaining to a group of ignorant people was meaningless. After all, they were all losers who believed themselves to be winners.
Alden walked out of the house, planning to return to the herbal store to check on his friend, Morgan Harris. Unexpectedly, it began to rain just then. Alden used his long coat to cover his head and then jogged through the rain.
Just then, his smartphone rang. The name on the smartphone screen was that of a woman he knew well. It was Isabelle, his half-sister. “Where have you been all these years? Come back now!”
Alden's expression remained unchanged no matter how rude the woman sounded. Indifferently, he replied with a hint of sarcasm, "How polite of you. You don't even bother to greet me.”
Isabelle, on the other end, sighed in frustration. But then she quickly asked, "Alright, how are you? Don't you miss me? Why are you so stubborn and won't come back? I'm very worried about you!"
Worried about me? Alden smiled faintly. It had been a long time since anyone had expressed concern for him.
The woman on the phone spoke again. "Why are you silent? Has that lowly woman really driven you insane? Do you no longer consider me your little sister? Anyway, you have to come back!"
Alden responded calmly, "I miss you, Belle. But didn't I say I won't come back until Dad kneels and apologizes at my Mom's grave?" Every time he thought about his mother's tragic death at the hands of his own father, he felt angry and resentful. If it weren't for Isabelle's pleas, Alden wouldn't hesitate to take revenge on his father himself.
Isabelle wasn't satisfied with that answer, despite Alden being the heir of the legendary Lawson family in the country of Auranova. However, his public presence had become a mystery. "But—" A thunderous clap of thunder was so loud that Alden couldn't hear his little sister's words.
At that moment, a barefoot woman ran through the rain alone. Without permission, the drenched woman hugged Alden. He was so shocked that he accidentally turned off the phone call.
"Hey, what's going on?" Alden snorted in annoyance. But at that moment, he quickly realized that something soft pressed against his stomach, sending a warm thrill through his chest. For a moment, his brain stopped functioning.
With a trembling voice, the pink-haired woman said, "Please, hide me! They'll capture me! I promise to pay whatever you ask!" Her face was buried in Alden's chest. From their posture, the woman looked slightly taller than Rose, with the top of her head just below Alden's shoulder blades.
As he turned to look in the direction the mysterious woman had come from, Alden saw several men dressed in all black running as if they were searching for someone. He immediately understood that these men were after the drenched woman who was clinging to him.
Without hesitation, Alden covered the woman's head with his long black coat and pressed her against the store's wall as if they were a couple.
