Chapter 0005

Alden smiled awkwardly, pretending not to pay attention to anything. "If you're okay, then it's best you pay me one million," he said before pausing and casually added, "Oh no, I think two million because I also had to deal with those guys." He said this in an offhand manner.

Still wearing an irritated expression, the pink-haired woman challenged, "What if I don't want to pay you?"

Nonchalantly, Alden replied, "I'll leave you."

The pink-haired woman let out an exasperated sigh, "I never expected you to be a real highway robber!" She was frustrated with her inability to move. If she allowed Alden to leave, it was essentially handing her over to another criminal.

Alden chimed in, "Oh no, I think three million. And you should apologize to me for being impolite and breaking your promise."

An inner volcanic eruption raged within the pink-haired woman. She was seething with anger, but she had no other choice than to concede to the mysterious black-haired man. He might even raise the amount further. To make things worse, he might leave her once again, just like before.

With a grudging tone, she finally said, "Fine, I apologize."

Alden insisted, "You should apologize sincerely."

Grace, after a moment of composure, spoke softly with a hint of regret in her voice, "I apologize to you for being impolite and for breaking my promise." She paused for a moment. As a woman from the Hopkins family, she seldom apologized to anyone. An apology from her was an honor to whomever received it.

"I will also give you three million."

Grace observed Alden's reaction. Despite she mentioning a significant amount, the man in the black coat remained unfazed, as if money held no significance to him. Whereas, his appearance contrasted sharply with the wealthy men of Bevermouth City. She realized that this man was not one who could be bought with money.

This man is too mysterious.

After seeing the sincerity and the apology from the pink-haired woman, Alden said, "Alright, I will release you." The killer expression had completely disappeared from his face. "I hope you've learned from the previous incident not to break promises and be impolite to me."

Quickly, Alden pressed a point on the pink-haired woman's chest with two fingers. Afterward, she regained control of her body.

Finally, Grace breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh my." She could have been unable to move forever if she hadn't humbled herself and apologized to Alden.

Without further argument, she grabbed a small bag with a long strap hanging from her shoulder. She took out a check and wrote the number three million on it.

Handing the check to Alden, she smiled at him. "I hope you'll accept this from me." Alden received the check, still with a blank expression.

Having no more business with the woman from the Hopkins family, Alden just wanted to return to Morgan’s herbal shop to warm up and rest. "Alright, as I have no more need for you, I'll be on my way."

The man in the black coat exited the car, leaving the pink-haired woman behind as if nothing had happened before.

The woman could only gape. The man didn't even ask her name or offer to escort her home. This was the first time she felt ignored by a man when others were vying for her attention. It was irritating. Especially since Alden hadn't blinked an eye earlier when her body was soaking wet.

Between irritation and curiosity, she suddenly found herself wanting to know more about Alden. After all, he had formidable martial arts skills, and she needed a strong bodyguard to protect her from the martial artists her father might send after her.

"Wait! Don't leave me!"

The tall, slim man halted, then turned to the pink-haired woman standing outside the SUV. He wasn't in the mood for small talk, but he stopped anyway.

"What is it?"

Grace didn't know why, but when Alden stopped and looked at her, she felt quite pleased. With a broad smile, she said, "I'd like to treat you." She hoped Alden would accept her invitation.

Unfortunately, Alden wasn't interested in the invitation. "Thank you for your offer, but no need." He turned and walked away from Grace without caring that she was a woman from the renowned Hopkins family.

At that moment, Grace noticed her own soaked condition. She was internally frustrated with how unfeeling the man in the coat had been. Did he notice that she was cold?

Her skin had already turned pale after being drenched in the cold rain for so long. Yet, she realized it was futile to call him back, considering how heartlessly he'd left her immobile.

Suddenly, a shiver ran down Grace's spine, and she sneezed repeatedly. Alden stopped and looked back.

Not wanting to miss this opportunity, Grace observed Alden's slight concern when she sneezed. At that moment, she began to act, hugging her arms while shivering.

With a weak voice, Grace said, "Please take me to find some warm food. I beg you." She continued hugging herself, as if she would faint if she didn't get immediate assistance.

"Would you let me pass out in the middle of a cold, rainy night?" To convince Alden, the pink-haired woman nervously continued her lie, "I can't drive."

The man in the long coat couldn't help but smirk at Grace's blatant falsehood. Nonetheless, he suddenly remembered the close relationship between the Hopkins family and his late mother's family, which made him change his mind and agree to help Grace.

A few moments later, the black SUV's engine was running.Alden asked from behind the wheel, "Where are we going?"

However, when he turned around, he saw Grace's soaked condition, which made any man's heart race. On impulse, Alden removed his coat and handed it to her. "You should buy new clothes first so that you don't catch a cold."

The woman's cheeks turned crimson, and she looked out the car window out of embarrassment. "Alright, please take me to Opulent Whims Boutique."

"Okay."
