Chapter 2

“Again!” Edward’s supervisor rushed to him as soon as he heard the shattering sound of the wine glasses that fell from his tray. “What are you trying to do? How can you be so careless?”

“I am so sorry,” his supervisor apologized to the guests.

Everyone was looking at him while his supervisor continued to curse at him.

“How could you do this to me? How could you betray me, Isabella after all the things that I have done for you?” Edward thought to himself. He wanted to speak but he didn’t find the strength.

“Don’t let it happen again,” Donovan said coldly as he looked at them.

“Tha—”

“Enough, Edward. You are fired! Get out of my sight,” his supervisor said in anger. “I can’t believe you have ruined our event twice in a row!”

But Edward didn’t move from where he was.

“That woman!” He shouted but before he could even finish his words the guards came in.

“That’s enough! Get out that man here!”

“Hey! Stop making a scene!”

“Let me go!” Edward mumbled behind the hand that was covering his mouth.

“How dare you cause trouble here! Time for you to leave,” the guards said in disdain.

He couldn’t believe that his wife would be doing that to him after all the sacrifices he had done for her.

He struggled from the guards that were holding him.

“No, I am not going anywhere. My wife is here!” Edward kept on shouting but none of his words could be understood by the people around him.

Isabella was shocked as she covered her mouth. Her face turned white as soon as she saw Edward in the middle of the crowd. She couldn’t help but wonder what the man was doing there.

Her legs suddenly turned into jelly.

“Are you okay?” Donovan was full of concern when the man noticed her expression.

“Y— yes,” she said in trembling words, still couldn’t recover from the fear that suddenly overwhelmed her upon seeing her husband at the party. She couldn’t remove her gaze to Edward who was being dragged out by the guards.

What was Edward doing there? Why was he working as a waiter?

“Isabella? You are so cold. He is already gone. There’s no need for you to worry,” Donovan said again, which brought her back to her senses.

She could feel her body shaking in fear. She was afraid that Edward would reveal the truth about their relationship. Everything that she worked hard for would be gone in just an instant. She couldn’t let that happen.

“D— Donovan, please don’t let the man enter the place,” she said in a shaky voice as if she was really traumatized by what Edward had done. Fear and shock mixed up inside her chest. “Please,” she begged in a cracked voice.

“You will be okay, as long as you are here with me, he cannot go near you,” Donovan said. “No one can hurt you as long as you are beside me. Trust me, okay?”

Isabella nodded her head, still trembling in fear.

“You! Don’t let that man enter here again or else I will advise everyone in the business circle not to get your service. How can you hire such an employee! He just ruined the most important event for me and my fiancee!” Donovan said angrily at the supervisor who got startled because of his loud voice.

“I have already fired him, sir. I am so sorry. This will never happen again. Please accept my apologies,” Edward’s supervisor muttered but the anger was still inside his heart for the man. “Edward, don’t make me see your face again or else you will regret that you were born in this world.”

“Make sure,” he said in a firm tone. “Everyone, I am sorry for that commotion. Let’s go ahead and enjoy the party. I hope you are still in the mood to drink and celebrate this very important moment of my life with my soon to be wife, Isabella,” Donovon suddenly turned into the crowd trying to bring back the excitement and happiness in the atmosphere.

“I promise to take care of you, Isabella. No one can lay their hands on you as long as you are on my side.”

Isabella sweetly smiled though her heart was beating so fast inside her.

She looked at Donovan straight in the eye as her forced smile didn’t fade from her face.

The guests calmed down and their faces brightened when they saw how Isabella and Donovon looked at each other with love.

“Congratulations!”

“All the best for both of you!”

“We are happy to witness your engagement! I hope you find happiness with each other!”

As Isabella heard those words from the crowd, she couldn’t help but feel tightening in her heart. If only she had a choice. She never wanted to hurt Edward.

“I am so sorry, Edward. I know that I have hurt you but I never wanted to do this. I just don’t have a choice. I felt trapped. I do not want to suffer any longer. I am already exhausted with the way our life has been going,” she said to herself.

“Thank you, everyone,” she said in a happy tone.

Little did she know, Donovan turned to his men.

“Go and check that man out! Teach him a lesson that he can never forget,” Donovan ordered them.

“Okay, boss,” the men wearing black suits left the place.

Edward was still in front of the gate, knelt down.

He still hadn’t recovered from what he had found out about his wife.

“How can you do this to me, Isabella? I trusted you with all my heart. I have sacrificed everything that I have for you. Why?” He kept on asking himself as the tears flowed from his cheek. He didn’t care if the passersby were already looking at him.

He felt like his life had shattered into millions of pieces.

He pitied himself for being in that kind of situation.

“Hey, you! How dare you ruin our boss’ engagement party?! Who do you think you are?” One of the men that Donovan ordered grabbed his collar and then lifted him. “What were you thinking earlier?”

But Edward didn’t respond as if he couldn’t hear any words from the man. Because of the pain that he had inside, he was oblivious of his surroundings.

“Are you tough? Why can’t you answer now? Do you want to die now, huh?” The man continued and then he hit his stomach.

Edward grunt in pain. The man threw him to the ground as if he was garbage. But Edward didn’t fight back.

What else should he fight for? He already lost the reason to fight for life.

He received several punches and kicks from the men that he didn’t know where they came from.

“The next time you will do this and scare my boss’ fiancee, this is not only what you can get! You will have your last breath!” The man kicked him hard for the last time.

Edward held his stomach. He didn’t dare fight back to the man.

He didn’t even notice when the men left as everything just went blank.
