Chapter 7

“What else are you waiting for?”

“I am so sorry, Sir,” the guard apologized to Eduard when he recovered from shock. “I really didn’t know that you are the CEO’s son.”

“It’s okay. I know that you are just doing your job but please next time, don’t be judgemental. Try not to look down to anyone that you are going to meet along the way,” Eduard said meaningfully to the guard.

The guard bowed his head. He couldn’t meet Eduard’s eyes because of embarrassment.

“Yes, sir. Again, I am so sorry for how I have acted earlier,” he said in a low voice.

“It’s alright,” Eduard said and then he entered the penthouse with Ryan.

“Sir, Donovan Smith and his girlfriend have already left. They were really pissed off. I overheard them saying who do you think you are to make them wait for a couple of hours,” Ryan reported as soon as they got inside the penthouse.

“Don’t mind them. I do not have any spare time to talk to those kinds of people. Besides, no matter what he will be saying, there’s no way that I will give up the shares to his company. This is just the beginning,” he said the last sentence in a low voice but that didn’t escape from Ryan’s ears.

“What do you mean, sir?” His assistant suddenly asked.

Eduard shook his head. “Never mind.”

He crossed his legs while he was thinking of what he was going to do. Donovan challenged him earlier.

“Sir, do you want me to order anything for your dinner?”

“Ryan, actually, I need you to do something for me. I am so sorry if this is just a short notice. I want you to get a limited edition sports car for me with the highest price,” he said in a calm tone while his eyes were focused on the TV in front of him.

Ryan was taken aback from what he heard.

“Oh, sure, sir,” he quickly responded.

“Thank you. I need it in an hour. I am relying on you on this one,” he said to the man.

“No worries, sir. I will arrange this for you and your sports car should be here in less than an hour.”

“Thank you, Ryan. I know that I can really count on you with everything,” he said to his assistant and gave him a quick glance.

He was wondering what Donovan and Isabella’s reaction would be when they saw him riding in a sports car.

For Donovan’s eyes, he was nothing but a poor man while for Isabella’s he was nothing but her ex-husband who she dumped because of another man.

The anger in his heart suddenly rose just thinking about Isabella. It was clear that the woman was not worthy of his love. He wanted to think that it was a blessing in disguise that he discovered her infidelity. He wouldn’t like to spend the rest of his life with a woman like her.

He never thought that his dad would accept him and he would get his luxurious life back.

It didn’t take long and he heard a knock on the door.

His eyebrows knitted together as he was quite surprised. Did Ryan already get the car that he asked him to get?

“Come in,” he said without looking at the door.

It didn’t take long and Ryan came back.

“Sir, here’s the key of the most expensive sports car and limited edition that you ask me to get for you,” Ryan said as soon as he entered the penthouse.

“Thank you, Ryan.”

They were already at the parking lot when all of a sudden a woman went in their direction.

“S— Sir,” the woman called him.

Eduard was surprised to see the receptionist.

“Yes, how can I help?”

He could see the cheek of the woman turned red.

“Sir, I just want to apologize for what happened earlier. I know that I should have not acted like that,” she said in an apologetic voice. “It’s just really so happened that a lot of people are coming in to see the CEO and even with that kind of attitude, I have the best interest in heart for the company. I am so sorry if I judge you,” she added.

Eduard nodded his head. He could feel the sincerity of the woman in her voice.

“Sir, please, I know that I have hurt your feelings. I am really sorry for everything that I have said. I hope it will not be a cause for me to lose my job,” she said in a pleading voice.

Eduard didn’t know but he felt like she was the woman before. He pleaded for him to be retained in his job but unfortunately, even after begging, he was kicked out of the company.

He didn’t say a word and remained silent.

“Sir,” the woman called him again. “What can I do to make up with the mistake? I know I sound so desperate right now and I am so sorry if I am bothering you during this moment but I cannot really afford to lose my job. I am the breadwinner of our family since my father got sick. If I will be terminated because of what happened, I really don’t know what I should be doing. My father is still on medication. My siblings are still going to school. My mother is the one looking after them all. I am really sorry, sir. Please give me a chance and do not kick me out of the company. I promise that incident will not happen again.”

“Sir, please, I beg you,” the woman was about to kneel down but Eduard stopped her.

“Don’t do that,” he said.

He could understand what the woman was feeling. He knew that she was wrong but a part of him also knew that she was just trying to perform her job the best way that she could but unfortunately, she just didn’t know how to do it the right way.

“It’s alright. You don’t have to kneel. Your apology is accepted.”

He saw when the tears formed in the corner of the woman’s eyes suddenly fell on her cheek.

The woman burst out her emotions after she heard what Eduard said.

“Don’t cry. I am not going to fire you but you have to promise me that that will never happen again. Always remember that you have to be kind to all the people you meet along your way. You have to care even for strangers because you never know what they are going through. Wealth is not the basis of respect nor the physical appearance. I hope this serves as a lesson to you,” he exclaimed as he wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes.

“I am really sorry. Thank you for not terminating me. I really don’t know what will happen to me if I lose my job.”

Eduard smiled. “Just do your best and make sure not to judge anyone right away, okay?”

The receptionist nodded.

“By the way, what is your name?”

“A– Abby, sir,” the woman answered.

“Since you owe me one, Abby, come with me to a party. I need a female companion,” he invited the woman.

Shock was registered on her face. For a moment the woman hesitated.

“Please, can you come with me?”

Abby smiled at him and nodded.
