Chapter 6

“Donovan, let’s get inside. Remember you are not here for him,” Isabella reminded him.

“Alright, just see you tonight, asshole,” Donovan said and then they opened the door of the CEO’s office.

Eduard rolled his fist in anger because of how the two acted, especially Donovan. That man was really so proud of himself.

After the two got inside the office, Eduard took his phone and called his manager.

“Hello,” the manager greeted him on the other line. “Mr. Smith is here inside your office and waiting for you, Sir.”

Eduard smirked.

“Let them wait for me,” he said and then walked away from his office. He went to the lift while thinking about where he was going.

He first went to the restaurant downstairs to get a cup of coffee.

He never thought that he would meet Donovan soon. Probably, because of the amount of the shares he had in his company, the man was a bit bothered.

He was still sipping his coffee when he received a call from his personal assistant.

“Sir, Mr. Donovan is already asking where you are. What should I do?”

“Just tell them that I am already on my way,” he said as he tried to provoke the man by making him wait for a couple of hours.

He wanted to make him see who looked stupid between the two of them.

“Okay, sir. I will,” his assistant said.

Eduard hung up the phone and continued to read the business news that he was reading earlier. He never thought that he would find himself in that position. And, there was one thing that he was sure of, he would not let the chance slip from his hand. He would prove to his father that he was worthy to be his heir.

On top of that, he wanted his ex-wife to see what she had lost.

It didn’t take long and Eduard finished his coffee and decided to go to the rooftop and take a rest in his penthouse while making Donovan and Isabella wait for him.

“I am so sorry, Sir, but unauthorized people are not allowed to enter this place,” the guard at the entrance of his penthouse said as soon as he saw him.

His eyebrows furrowed as he never thought that he would experience that. He knew that they had a strict security protocol but he was the son of the owner of the company and the next in line to be the CEO.

“Sir, I am the owner of this penthouse. My father told me that I can use this when I want to take a rest.”

“Regardless, sir. I hope you understand that I cannot just let you in without proper identification.”

“Huh? What do you mean?” His eyebrows were almost touching each other. “Here,” he said and then he handed his driver’s license to the man.

“Eduard George,” the guard said and then he looked at him intently as if he was checking if the person on the ID was him.

“Can I enter now?”

“Not yet sir. I don’t think this is enough for me to allow you to enter.”

“Seriously? I mean, that’s my driver’s license. I told you my father told me that I can rest here.”

“Sir, Eddie is the name of the CEO’s son and not Eduard.”

Eddie was speechless. How would he explain his identity to the guard?

“By the look of it, sir, you don’t even look like a son of the CEO,” he even added as he looked at him from top to bottom. “Sir, just leave before I ask for help to get you out of here.”

“What else do you need so I can enter?”

“I am not sure, sir, because the person we allow to enter the penthouse is the owner. We cannot just allow a stranger to enter this place. This is a place where the CEO usually takes a rest after his busy schedule.”

He heaved a deep sigh. Eduard found it very funny and at the same time stressful. Why did he have to prove himself every now and then?

“Sir, please, leave now and stop insisting on getting inside because I will not allow you. I will let go whatever you did on your ID. I will not tell anyone that you are using the CEO’s last name. I just hope you better stop it while no one catches you,” the guard even reminded him.

Eduard’s eyebrows rose when he heard those words. He never used his dad’s last name so that he would be prioritized or get special treatment. In fact he was trying his best back then to hide his identity. He discreetly made a way not to be able to associate him with Edgar George.

“Sir, I think you—”

“Sir,” the guard said in a firm tone. “Please, I do not have time anymore to spend with you. If you are trying to play a trick on me, please stop. I am trying to be as patient as I can to you.”

“Sir, I understand that you have a strict security protocol here and you are just following what has been instructed to you but like what I have said, I am the son of the CEO. I even showed you my identification card. What else do you need, sir? I just really want to take a rest and nothing else,” Eduard couldn’t hide the frustration in his voice.

“Again, I do not know how many times I should tell you. Eddie is the name of the CEO’s son. How can someone like you be Sir Edgar’s son? Look at yourself! I doubt if you have bought your poloshift. Probably someone just gave that to you,” the guard said in an insulting voice.

Eduard didn’t move from where he was standing.

“You really do not want to leave?” The guard continued and he raised his hands and was about to push Eduard away when all of a sudden Eduard’s personal assistant stopped him.

“What are you doing?” Ryan asked the guard with his eyebrows knitted together.

“Oh, sir, I am so sorry for this. This man is trying to get inside. I have already told him that I cannot allow him to enter because the owner is the only one who is authorized to enter the penthouse. But he has been so persistent. He even has an idea. I think he is using the CEO’s last name to trick people,” the guard explained as if he found someone to be on his side.

“What?” Ryan exclaimed. “Are you serious? Don’t you know who this person is?”

The guard was shocked. Obviously, it was not the reaction that he was expecting from his assistant.

“Don’t apologize to me but apologize to Sir Eduard! How can you treat the heir of this company like that? Do you still want to keep your job?”

The guard was dumbfounded as if he couldn’t believe what he had heard. He looked at Eduard as if he was trying to process everything that Ryan said.

“Go, what are you waiting for? Apologize to him if you still want your job,” Ryan said when he saw that the guard didn’t say anything.
