Chapter 5

“What did you just say?” Donovan’s eyebrows were knitted together. He couldn’t hide the anger he suddenly felt after hearing what Sarah said.

“You heard it right, sir,” Sarah, his personal assistant, confirmed. “I didn’t know that the shares of Mr. Nixon and Mr. Rey were sold to one person.”

“How can you not know it? How did it happen that they were selling their shares and we didn’t have any idea?”

Sarah went silent. She bowed her head as she really had no idea that those two stakeholders were going to sell their shares.

“I’m sorry, sir.”

“Whatever, Sarah. How can you be so incompetent?” Donovan asked and then shook his head. “Go and set up an appointment with this person and I will buy back the shares. I can’t believe that you have allowed this to happen.”

“Okay, sir,” Sarah answered.

“Leave. Get the soonest appointment available.”

Sarah nodded and then turned around to leave the room.

“What happened?” Isabella entered the room without knocking.

If it was a different person, he could have shouted at her already especially that he was not in a good mood.

“Is there any problem?” Isabella asked as soon as she entered because his facial expression couldn’t be drawn.

“Yes, a very big problem,” Donovan said as he clicked his tongue as if he was trying to think what to do with the situation.

“What is it?”

“Well, a person bought the shares of Mr. Nixon and Mr. Rey. That’s a total of 30% of the company. I am just 10% higher than him,” Donovan said as he put the documents down the table. “I am afraid that if another shareholder decides to sell their share but God forbid I am hoping that will not happen. My position as a CEO might be taken away from me.”

“How did it happen without your knowledge?”

“I do not know. I asked Sarah to book an appointment with the person who bought it. I will buy back the shares,” he said.

“That sounds like a good plan. Can I go with you?” Isabella asked.

“Yes, you can be a big help.”

Isabella smiled and then she gave Donovan a torrid kiss.

She was starting to untie the man’s tie but a knock was heard from the door.

“Sir, I just spoke to the personal assistant of the acting CEO. The appointment with the E.G Corporation has been booked. You should be at the place by three in the afternoon.”

“Seriously, Sarah? That’s in half an hour.”

“I know, sir but the personal assistant of the CEO said that they do not have any other time other than that.”

It didn’t take long Donovan and Isabella were already in front of the building of E.G Corporation.

“Wow, it looks like they are very successful. No doubt that they were able to get the shares,” Isabella couldn’t help but exclaimed.

“Shut up, Isabella,” Donovan said as he looked at the woman sharply.

The two went inside the lift heading to the office where the CEO was.

Donovan and Isabella were about to knock on the door when it suddenly opened.

Donovan’s mouth twitched when he saw who got out of the room while he didn’t notice when Isabella’s face turned pale.

The woman was afraid that Eduard would speak up.

“What are you doing here?” Donovan asked with his eyebrows knitted together when he saw Eduard. “Aren't you the stupid waiter who tried to ruin our engagement party?”

Eduard noticed Donovan and Isabella’s presence. He looked at Isabella for a second but didn’t say a word. If he was not mistaken, he could see a trace of worry on her face.

He clenched his fist because of the sudden anger he felt when he saw Isabella standing next to Donovan. 

“I am asking you, what are you doing here?”

But Eduard didn’t want to have any conversation with them. He was about to leave when Isabella spoke.

“Probably, he’s trying to beg for work. I heard from the event organizer that they fired him,” the woman said condescendingly.

“I see, even if you have almost ruined our party, I will help you get a job here. The owner is my friend,” Donovan said, full of pride.

Eduard almost shook his head when he heard that.

“What are you thinking? Why will you help him? He is bad luck! Can’t you see? Even his previous boss had to fire him!” Isabella refused instantly.

“Oh, well, you are right,” Donovan said and then laughed. “I should not be talking to this nonsense.”

“No but thanks. I do not need that job,” Eduard said, which made Isabella and Donovan shocked. “But how about you? Probably it’s you who will need that job. Do you think what you have now is already enough?” he even added.

He was unable to control his anger because of the man’s insulting words. He had enough and he wouldn’t let Donovan and Isabella look down on him.

Soon, they would know who he was and he promised that no one would be able to bully him like what they had done to him.

“Wait, what? What did you say? Why will I even need a clerk job? Do you know who I am?” Donovan said with anger in his voice.

“Well, you see, Donovan, I am just thinking, what if you will need this job sooner than I do? I think it really suits you.”

Donovan got frustrated when he heard Eduard’s next word.

“What are you talking about? What are you trying to say to me? I am the CEO of a company. Why would I even need that job?” Donovan’s eyes narrowed. “You stupid beggar! Meet me tonight in front of the restaurant. Let’s see who will need that job!”

Isabella’s eyes went wide when she heard what Donovan said.

“Honey, there’s no need for that. Just ignore him.” she said as she tried to stop Donovan.

“No, clearly, this poor man is trying to insult me with his words. I will just give him a lesson so he will know who I am,” Donovan said. “Wait for me at the restaurant just downstairs. If you are really brave then go there tonight.”

“Donovan—”

“Stay out of this, Isabella. This man is really testing my patience. After ruining our engagement party, he still has the audacity to face me.  How dare he! Who do you think he is?”

Isabella was in panic. She was clearly afraid. If Eduard would say anything about them. She knew that she was doomed.

Eduard’s lips curved. It was as if he found what the man was saying funny.

“Whatever you say. If I win, I am going to kiss your wife,” Eduard said, which made Donovan caught off guard.

He was about to punch Eduard when he took a deep sigh.

He was obviously trying to calm himself.

“Well, if you don’t like that, then you have to do whatever I am going to say,” Eduard added.

“Okay and if I win, you will do whatever I say,” Donovan said, sounding like he was sure that he was going to win the fight between him and Eduard.

“Donovan, what are you thinking? Do you really need to do this? Can’t you just let it go?” Isabella tried to stop the two men in front of her.

“There’s no way to stop me from giving this man the lesson he needs, Isabella. He is doing so much already.”

“Okay, then, see you tonight!” Eduard said as he sealed the challenge from Donovan. He was not afraid of him. What else should he be afraid of?
