Jeff's window let in the first rays of morning light, but the loud ringing of his phone startled him out of his sleep.

Rubbing his eyes, he reached for his phone and answered groggily, only to hear Professor Paul's voice greeting him.

"Good morning, Jeff," the professor chimed, his tone tinged with urgency. "I hope I'm not disturbing you too much. I need to know, are you still intent on getting closer to Victor Grador?"

Jeff, now more awake, responded affirmatively, "Yes, Professor. I'm sticking to the plan. Did not we confirm this several days ago?"

Professor Paul said, "Oh okay," but there was a trace of doubt in his tone. "I have got a plan in mind. Meet me at school, in my office, at noon."

"You've arrived?"

"Yes, I came back late yesterday. Yesterday, Victor Grador also went somewhere—against his plan. Something must have come up on his end."

"I will meet you then."

With the call concluded, Jeff rose from bed, memories of the previous day flooding back like a relentless tide.
