I Want Her Back

The evening settled in with an all too familiar silence as Christopher and Laura eagerly waited for their video call with Lily and Christopher's parents. The quiet house, that had enjoyed the quiet of the weekend, now bubbled with the expectation of connecting with their little one.

Christopher, settling on the sofa with his phone, dialed his parents. After a few rings, the call connected, and his parents' faces appeared on the screen.

"Hi, Mom, Dad! How's Lily doing?" Christopher inquired with a bright smile.

His mother, looking a bit tired, responded, "Oh, she's fast asleep, dear. It's been a day full of excitement for her. But we're happy she finally settled down."

Christopher, slightly disappointed but understanding, said, "Well, she must have had quite the adventure with you two. We were looking forward to saying goodnight."

His father, coughing lightly, interjected, "Sorry about that, son. She was so tired after playing that she dozed off sooner than usual."
