As Christopher stepped out for a walk, the chilly air outside did little to ease the growing tension within. He mechanically strolled through the familiar neighborhood, his thoughts completely taken over by the uncertainty surrounding his parents.

Laura remained at home, anxiously awaiting any news. She busied herself with packing essentials, passports, and necessary documents, trying to maintain a semblance of control amidst the confusion the family was facing. Each passing minute felt like an eternity.

As Christopher walked the quiet streets, he couldn't escape the nagging feeling that time was slipping away. The rhythmic tapping of his shoes on the pavement echoed the irregular beat of his heart.

His phone buzzed, interrupting the somber channel his thoughts had taken. Laura's name flashed on the screen.

"Christopher, the local authorities said they'll check on your parents. It might take some time, though. How are you holding up?"
