Chapter 6

Luthan sat in the hotel lobby, eyeing his unwanted visitor warily. Camille sipped her coffee, throwing him casual smiles.

“I didn't come here to watch you drink. Get to the point and leave,” Luthan said candidly, but she remained unfazed by his words.

“How have you been, Luthan?” She asked instead. His eyes narrowed at her.

“My well-being is not the reason you're here, Camille. Cut the chase or I will be forced to leave you,” Luthan coldly stated.

“You are still as impatient as ever my dear, Luthan,” she smiled. “What is wrong with checking up on my ex-husband, huh? Can I even say that? Last time I checked, we were still legally married.”

Luthan was flabbergasted by the boldness. First, she connived with his family to take over his properties and slept with his brother, even had children for him, and now, she was here, reminding him that they were still legally bound.

“I suppose you're here for a divorce then. I'll have my lawyers prepare the papers and send them over to you,” Luthan said, rising to his fit.

“I am entitled to half of all your properties, you know that, right? Still interested in going down that road?”

Her words stopped him dead cold. So this was what the scheming woman was up to.

“Good thing you already everything then,” Luthan shrugged.

“That is not how it works, you know that!” Camille laughed. Luthan faced her this time. His face was as blank as a mask.

“Just in case you hadn't noticed, our marriage was over a long time ago. You slept with my brother and had a child with him. For your information, the prenuptial agreement we signed, stated that in the case of a divorce, we get to keep what we came with. I don't even care about what you did to me but you and that husband of yours will pay for everything you did to her,” Luthan stated.

Camille's face paled out. Had Mary already exposed all their dealings? Even after the warnings?

“Luthan..”

“Your time is up, get out!” He cut her short. Camille opened her mouth to say something but the glare he shot her way forced her shut.

She picked up her bag slowly.

“You are really arrogant, you know that!” She hissed. “Once your stupid lottery money is exhausted, you will be the one begging at my feet!”

She turned away to leave but his voice stopped her.

“Expect the divorce papers today. Do well to sign it and send it back immediately so everything can be finalised by tomorrow.”

Camille scoffed and stormed out of the building.

Luthan reflected on her last words to him. Lottery? How stupid and shallow-minded could these people be? They have been so used to reaping where they didn't show that they thought one couldn't make such an amount of money from hard work.

Huffing, he took the elevator back to his room. His foul mood was lifted the minute he saw Marilyn.

“Luthan?” She called softly. “Is that you?”

“Yes, darling. It is me,” he answered, joining her on the bed. “I'm sorry I took so long. I just happened to run into something that totally wasted my time. Room service will be here soon with breakfast.”

She reached for his hands and Luthan took it gently.

“Thank you for everything you're doing for me. I really appreciate it,” She said. “Maybe someday, I might be able to return the favour.”

“Someone once told me it's not help if we are expecting a reward,” Luthan smiled, and she chuckled.

“I should have been a teacher. Wasting all that good advice on a little rascal,” she teased, and he laughed.

“Right! I can't wait for you to open your eyes and see this rascal.”

Mary's smile faded into confusion.

“What?”

“I already contacted the best ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons far and wide. Everything will be fixed in no time. They should be here in three days at most,” Luthan informed her.

Mary was at a loss for words. If anyone had told her she would ever recover her eyesight, she would never believe them. There was no way she could ever repay such a favour.

Luthan noticed the shift in her mood as she clutched tightly to his arms.

“Mary…”

“I hate to be indebted to people, even if you are doing this out of the goodness of your heart, I can't bring myself to accept it,” her voice cracked as she spoke.

“I already told you. You saved my life once, allow me to save yours in return. This is not you owing me a debt. It is me repaying the debt I owe you. It makes us even,” Luthan explained.

“I… I don't want to burden you…” She sniffled.

“You could never, even if you wanted to. You are going to be fine, I'll make it right by you, I promise.”

The room service soon arrived with breakfast, after which Luthan hired a nanny to take care of Mary.

It was time for business.

“Ciel, do you still have the cards from the party?” Luthan asked the guard.

“Yes sir.”

“Good. I need the estate manager,” Luthan said and the guard walked away to get the box where he had saved all the business cards.

The guard went through the cards and finally pulled out that of Raven Duke.

“Real estate management,” He said, handing the card to Luthan.

“Thank you, Ciel. You can return the rest of them.”

Luthan dialled the number on the card and waited for an answer.

Raven was seated in the bathtub with his crowd of women when the call came in. He stared at the caller ID for a while, searching his memory for anyone he might have given his number to.

He swiped the answer button and waited for the person to speak.

“Hello, this is Luthan King. Am I onto Raven Duke?”

On hearing that voice, Raven practically flew out of the bathtub. It was the very call he had been expecting. The women were surprised by his actions but didn't follow him.

“Mr King. It's a pleasure. I have been expecting your call,” Raven struggled to keep the excitement out of his tone. He perceived Luthan to be a very rich man with exquisite taste and he wasn't wrong.

“I want to buy an estate.”

“An entire estate?” Raven's voice faltered a little from shock. None of their customers had been rich enough to afford an entire estate. A house alone was worth millions.

“Yes. I suspect you're less busy so you wouldn't mind giving me a tour,” Luthan said.

“Of course! Send me your location, I will be there in a jiffy!” He could barely contain his excitement this time.

“Grandeur hotels. I'll be waiting.”

The line went dead before Raven could utter another word. He paused for a moment to rethink the words he just heard.

Grandeur hotels? Wasn't that the same hotel that his mother complained was fully booked by some rich man? Could that be Luthan?

He shook off the thought. That was nothing compared to the huge deal he just landed for the family. He was certain Luthan would become a regular if he was impressed enough.

Hurrying to his closet, Raven dried off and picked out a shirt with tailored trousers.

“Leaving so soon?”

He glanced at the naked woman by the bathroom door.

“Yes. You should leave too, I won't be back soon,” Raven responded, grabbing his iPad and keys.

The drive to Grandeur was short and as promised, Luthan was waiting for him at the reception.

“Mr King.”

“Good to see you, Duke,” Luthan took his hand, without returning the smile. It didn't bother Raven much, even at the event, Luthan's stoic expression remained the same. He was either angry or expressionless.

“You stay here? I supposed you would have gotten a house,” Raven decided to bait him into confirming his suspicions.

“I just got into town, but I am sure you can handle that. You're the housing expert,” Luthan said.

“But booking the entire hotel…” Raven trailed off, unable to hide his shock.

“I like my privacy, Mr Duke. If you don’t mind, shall we?” Luthan responded vaguely.

“Sure, I have a list of sites you might be interested in. They come at very affordable rates too.”

“I don't care about the price. I want something that meets my standards.”

“Oh, well,” Raven chuckled uneasily, closing the folder to open the exclusive sites. These were the Duke's latest projects, but the price tag wasn't what anyone could afford. Not yet at least.

“I have a list of estates ranging from a hundred million dollars to seven hundred million,” Raven informed him. “About fifty to seventy acres.”

“That's relatively cheap,” Luthan nodded. “Let me see the biggest one.”

Raven had never been so shocked.
