Chapter 7 - History, Continued

After gaining an understanding and comprehension over Ether, the Seven Gods pooled their newfound knowledge and intelligence to establish the Magic System that exists together, giving the people the ability to stably harness their powers and halting the widespread, rampant mutations.

Apparently, the way the Magic System works is based on technology that existed before the disaster, the display that a Mage sees when they enter their subconscious was apparently created with the lost technology as a basis for its layout and functionality.

However, simply establishing the Magic System wasn't enough to bring an end to the chaos and mayhem in the new, post-apocalyptic world...the Seven Gods soon realized that the core of the issue was that the people who had undergone physical changes were discriminating against those who looked different to them.

That's when they decided to take on the role of Gods, appearing before the people with overwhelming displays of power to get their attention.

As the physical changes undergone by the people, as well as the animals, were closely similar changes to what the Seven Gods had gone through, the seven of them decided to each take charge of those who had undergone similar physical changes.

The Human God took charge of the people who hadn't undergone any outwardly noticeable physical changes. The Monster and Dragon Gods took charge of animals that had evolved as a result of the disaster, animals that are now known as Monsters, creatures that had developed special powers, some with high levels of intelligence.

Although, while Dragons are technically considered Monsters, since they're so much more powerful than other Monsters, they're viewed as separate beings to other Monsters by most people.

The Sky God took charge of mutated people whose descendants are now known as Harpies and Fairies. The Elf God took charge of people whose only noticeable change were their ears, growing longer and more pointy than usual.

The Titan God took charge of people whose descendants are now known as Titans, Giants and Dwarves.

And finally, the Demon God took charge of people who underwent, well, demonic physical changes, they had been the most severely discriminated against in the aftermath of the disaster, many people assumed they were responsible for what had happened, based solely on their appearances.

The Human God had the people under him form two new nations, which came to be known as Sapio and Anthro, the Sky and Elf Gods managed to create unity between the people under them and formed a unified nation, called Oberion.

The Titans, Giants and Dwarves also formed their own nation under the guide of the Titan God, called Colossus, while the Demon God formed three nations for the Demons who, at the time, had the highest population.

Two of their nations, Vilia and Nefaria, are in the Central Continent, the main body of land on the planet, while the third nation was created on an island to the east of the continent, named Tartaros.

The Monster and Dragon Gods did things differently, spreading the Monsters out across the entire world, with cooperation from Monsters that had gained high levels of intelligence, most notably the Dragons, who to this day, remain mostly neutral if left unbothered.

Once the new state of the world settled down, the Seven Gods convened once again, tinkering with the Magic System to streamline it and make it as efficient and easy to use as possible, as well as ensuring its stability.

To maintain the peace they worked so hard to establish, they kept each of the new races on tight leashes, harshly punishing anyone who showed signs of stirring up conflict.

And then, two centuries later, a turning point came. An individual from one of the human nations exploited loopholes in the Magic System and gained immense power, intending to use that power for destruction.

This individual was known as Laguna, though very little else is known about her, like the specifics of how she gained her power or what exactly she was capable of...however, it's said that she was even more powerful than the Seven Gods themselves, which earned her the title of Malevolent Witch.

She almost succeeded in killing the Seven Gods, before six of the seven made the ultimate sacrifice, using their own lives as catalysts to seal her away for good, about three hundred years ago now.

Only the Sky God survived, and went on to adjust the Magic System one last time, working tirelessly for several years to prevent anyone else from exploiting any loopholes in the system.

The Sky God then made to decision to stay removed from the world's affairs, but not before revealing the entire truth about the history of the world...prior to that, the Seven Gods hid the truth about what caused the world to change so drastically.

After that, the Sky God was never seen again.

Several wars and conflicts broke out in the following century, both major and minor, before eventually settling down about one century ago from the present.

Here's the current state of the world...the nation I'm in, Sapio, is a country that's looked to form alliances or at least friendly ties with all other nations, it's a land where people of all races are accepted and treated equally.

The other human nation, Anthro, is more exclusionary, many of the people there are human supremacists. They interact with Sapio fairly often when it comes to trade and stuff, but have very little contact otherwise, and they have almost no ties whatsoever to any other nation.

The nation of Colossus, where Titans, Giants and Dwarves live, is a pleasant, peaceful nation, the people there are very welcoming of visitors. They prefer to stay away from any conflict, so when it comes to international political matters, they stay secluded from any involvement.

The Elven nation, Oberion, where Elves, Fairies and Harpies live, are quite friendly to humans, however, they rarely let any outsiders into their nation. There's no real confirmation of this, but a lot of people speculate that the reason for that is because the Dark Witch Laguna's seal lies inside Oberion.

Then, there's the Demon nations. The nation of Nefaria has friendly ties with Sapio, there are plenty of Demons who've even relocated to Sapio as a result, and the other way around too.

As for the nation of Vilia, they're less friendly towards humans, but Sapio still has moderate ties to their nation and trades with them fairly often. As far as outsiders go, they only allow other Demons to enter, non-Demon races are forbidden entry into their nation.

Those are all the nations in the Central Continent. Then there are the five islands around the continent, one of which is the Demon nation of Tartaros, to the northeast of the continent.

A nation of Demon supremacists, they stay secluded from the most of rest of the world, only maintaining contact with Vilia and Nefaria, but even that's minimal at best.

Then there's the Resort Island, known as Recrea, which is to the northwest of the Central Continent. It's run primarily by humans and Elves, a massive resort where any and all people are welcome, regardless of race.

To the southwest of the Central Continent is the Monster Island, Bedlam. It's an island inhabited solely by Monsters, not exactly the kind of place you want to visit.

Then there's the Elven Island, Halv, to the south of the continent, where Elves, Fairies and Harpies live. And unlike Oberion, they're very welcoming of outsiders.

And finally, the Island of Death, Orcus.

Most Monsters are animals that evolved five hundred years ago, but there's a type of Monster that's an exception to that rule, Monsters that came into being from corpses...Undead Monsters.

The Monster God isolated most of them on Orcus Island, which later ended up becoming Laguna's domain, as she took control of the Undead Monsters since the Monster God technically abandoned them as he was unable to control them.

But there are Undead Monsters on the Central Continent as well...an area know as the Infertile Hollow, to the east of the continent. Fortunately, they rarely wander out of that wasteland, plus Sapio is to the west, on the complete opposite end of the continent to that place, so I doubt we'll ever have to worry about the Undead.

Alright, that sums up the basic history and geography of this world. Since I didn't go into great detail, some of what I said might've been slight oversimplifications, but this should give you a general idea of what this world is like in the present...
