004 - Avoiding Scandal

Alex can’t just accept this coincidence, for the fact his teacher sent him to a man who has an issue with Dylan Vega whom he just had an issue just this afternoon. He starts speculating, could it be that this is not a mere mission, but a trial.

“For what reason?” asks Alex.

The youngster with the curly ponytail named Nelson who sits beside Alex suddenly interferes.

“That fucker spitted to my face in public.”

Alex averts his face to the youngster. This youngster, who is usually referred The 2nd Top G on the street, nonchalantly blows his smoke at Alex’s face for the second time.

“I’m the son of Harry Gaines, The Top G in Sydney. Nobody can just spit on my face and live. Isn’t that clear enough?”

Out of nowhere, Alex picks the glass ashtray and slams it so hard at that youngster’s forehead. And again, Alex hears a man moan so pathetically like a bitch, making him a bit regret hurting that kid.

“Nobody can just blow smoke into my face and leave unhurt.”

The two guards point their guns at Alex. But Alex has already pulled that one youngster and holds him by putting the tip of his pencil to the youngster’s neck.

“You hurt him, we kill you,” threatens one of the guards.

“Man, I’ve already hurt him. And honestly, I’m really not in a good mood today. Wanna bet your chance?” provokes Alex.

On the other hand, Harry Gaines is still looking so calm. He gives a sign to his guards to drop their guns. And soon, Alex also lets go of Harry’s son.

“Forget about killing Dylan Vega,” says Alex to Harry.

“Is it because he is your brother-in-law? I heard Sofia Vega has become a widow now,” utters Harry.

“That’s not my reason to deny your request,” replies Alex.

“Care to tell me why?”

“It’s useless. Even if I kill that man, your son would just create another problem with someone else. When you fail to teach your son manners, someone else will teach him the hard way on the street.”

“Then I can just hire you again.”

“Look! I was taught to fix a problem, not simply to accept assasination mission and then get the money. Take my advice, and your problems will solved without having to kill anyone, and prevent new problems at the same time.”

Alex pushes that youngster’s head, and walks away. But then he stops as he remembers something important.

“Another thing! Don’t touch Dylan Vega, or any of his family. I’m no longer part of that family now. But I still have something to do with them.”

Harry nods his head composedly.

“Daaad!!!” That youngster Nelson shows his ill manners to his dad who is not going to comply with his request. “You can’t just let this...”

Harry just slaps his son. But soon after that, he checks the condition of the son’s face like a loving father.

“You heard what Mr. Alexander told you? It’s because of your ill manners, people will teach you a lesson the hard way. Now why don’t you get back home to your mother?”

That son looks so angry and feels humiliated by the way his dad treats him. But the dad moves his head just slightly as a cold gesture to tell him to leave.

Instead of going to the alley to go home, that youngster takes another door behind his dad’s office which leads to the nightclub. He still dares to look back at Alex by showing his hatred without his dad’s knowing.

He is the kind of son who asked his dad to kill someone only because of trivial matters. There’s no way he can just ignore Alex after what Alex did to him.

“Mr. Alexander!” calls Harry politely.

“Just call me Alex!”

“This is not the real reason why I asked for Morgan Davis's help. Please, have a seat.”

“Just as I thought. You were just testing me, right?” says Alex as he takes a seat.

“I still find it hard to accept that the master doesn’t see me worthy enough to be his disciple. And yet, he said that he was going to send his disciple here. And there I saw the one who came to me none other then the CEO of Vintage Vega. I just want to know what kind of man you are.”

“Oh, you also studied under him?”

Harry nods composedly. He then explains about his real issue with his other business, the legal one he has in town. It's for this one that he asked help to Morgan Davis in the first place.

“I had good feedback some years ago from my biscuit company. So we decided to increase the production, and expanded our market in several countries in Southeast Asia.”

“A biscuit company?” mumbles Alex. “And you managed to make it big with just that?”

Harry widens his lips with a nod. “Now about the problem, we got more demands, produced more, and had more sales, yet our revenue keeps falling each year. You see! I’m busy handling the situation here in the alley. But I still don’t want my biscuit company to fall bankrupt.”

“Aren’t you worrying too much?”

Harry shakes his head with a serious expression. Alex is silent for a moment in pondering before giving him a reply.

“Just prepare your finance reports in the past five years, and two years before you up your game. I might find something there.”

“A stack of finance reports for 7 years?”

“I’ll visit your company when you are ready,” replies Alex, leaving his phone number before he takes his leave. But then he stops right on the door and turns. “I forgot to tell you. $150k a day, that’s my price.”

“A hundred and...” That middle-age boss immediately gets up with an unpleasant face. “Are you out of your mind? You expect me to hire you with that salary?”

“Don’t get me wrong! You are hiring a specialist to fix a 5 years-old issue, not an employee,” replies Alex as he leaves that office, not giving Harry any chance to renegotiate.

As he walks out leaving the alley, the thug with the burning scar in his forehead approaches Alex with an awkward smile. He holds out the sketch of the picture he has previously crumpled, and asks Alex for an autograph.

Alex shakes his head and complies to his request. “Your boss is a professional, not just a street thugs leader. Don’t act pretentious like you are a big guy. Professional bodyguards don’t do that,” he advises.

***

The situation in Vega Family that night hasn’t calmed down either. Elly is still frightened by the shock and trauma, laying in his bed by holding the stuffed animal her dad left.

But still, blood is thicker than water. The girl can’t just deny her father simply because of that incident.

Meanwhile...

“I was only trying to show my kindness out of pity,” explains Dylan to Sofia, as he holds a bag of ice on his face. “Judging by his look, I was worried that he didn’t even have anything in his pocket. But out of nowhere, he just hit my face.”

“Haven’t you seen enough?” Georgina provokes Sofia even more by reaching out his hand toward her injured son. “How many times do I have to remind you, he doesn't deserve to be a father.”

“From now on, never let him meet Elly again,” adds Giana. “If necessary, take this to court and ask the judge to ban that useless man from getting near this family. If you need proof, I’ve recorded it here,” she closes by giving her phone.

But Sofia takes her face away, looking in denial not believing that Alex would go that far. She tries to calm her mind and heads to an office, a place that Alex usually used for working at home.

Dylan drops the ice bag and rushes to follow her, like there’s still something else he wants to convey.

“That man asked for more money,” he says as he enters that office.

“Who?”

“The one who sent those pictures! The dirty pictures of your ex-husband having sex with...”

“Enough!” Sofia shouts in furious. “You don’t need to explain it in detail.”

“If we don’t comply with his request, that man will spread them to the public,” continues Dylan.

Sofia’s face looks so desperate to hear it. She may have already divorced Alex. But if those dirty pictures spread to the public, it will surely create a scandal.
