Chapter 1

"Have you finished washing all the dirty dishes?" Harley asked in a haughty tone of voice as she stood in the kitchen doorway.

The opponent Gerald Wayne was talking to just nodded his head obediently to his wife while showing dozens of white plates that looked so shiny neatly arranged on a large plate rack. There was a look of satisfaction on her face after seeing the results of her husband's useless work in her eyes.

"Hurry up and change clothes, and remember not to embarrass me in front of my family's guests," said Harley and then left Gerald.

A year ago was like a nightmare for Gerald Wayne. After the day of his wedding to Harley Kyle, the most beautiful woman on campus, Gerald's parents were involved in a serious traffic accident which caused his mother to die on the spot and his father to fall into a coma. Even worse, his adoptive younger brother, Christian Wayne sabotaged the company and took over the family's company for himself.

The company and property were confiscated and Gerald had to leave his home in New York, an heir who was once treated like a king had to end up becoming a trash. Moreover, with the behavior of his mother-in-law who really hated him, Gerald had no choice. Because his father's hospital fees were exorbitant, he had to survive and earn mercy from Kyle's family.

Tonight, it's Kyle's grandmother's birthday. Even though she is old, Kyle's grandmother's beauty and elegance remain a pillar of honor that Kyle maintains. That night, children, grandchildren and in-laws came to celebrate Kyle's grandmother's birthday party. They all brought luxurious and expensive gifts especially for Kyle's grandmother.

"Grandma, please accept this jade stone. This will make grandma even more beautiful when wearing it," said Justin, Grandma Kyle's favorite grandson-in-law as he handed her the jade stone with great respect.

"Grandma, I brought a herbal drink from China. This will make you live longer." Seeing so many neatly wrapped gifts in front of her, Kyle's grandmother smiled happily. The atmosphere at the party felt harmonious and warm.

However, suddenly Gerald came in wearing a shabby suit he had bought this morning at a flea market. He walked confidently towards the grandmother who was the center of everyone's attention and the Kyle family's oldest grandson-in-law said lightly.

"Grandma, happy birthday. Can I ask Grandpa Kyle for his promise to you today?"

The entire Kyle family was shocked and looked at Gerald with confused and astonished looks. Such an ignorant grandson-in-law, how could he not have any shame in saying something like that in front of everyone present. Di didn't even bring a gift for Kyle's grandmother and instead shamelessly asked for something.

Six months ago, Kyle's grandfather was still alive. He felt sorry for Gerald and his father, who had once helped Kyle's family's declining economy. Therefore, before he died, grandfather said he would pay for all of Gerald's father's exorbitant hospital expenses. Unfortunately, before grandfather could fulfill his promise, because the illness was getting worse, the old man finally gave up.

And today, Gerald has to find five thousand dollars to pay off the hospital arrears. He doesn't know where else to look and only hopes that Kyle's grandmother will fulfill Grandpa Kyle's previous promise. Suddenly, Kyle's grandmother threw her cup of Chinese tea right in front of Gerald, Harley rushed forward and said.

"Grandma, I'm sorry, Gerald. He was distracted because of my father-in-law's condition," said Harley. At that time, Harley's cousin, Elana, very arrogantly sneered and insulted Gerald by saying that the man had no shame.

"Look at Harley, the man you married, isn't he more worthy of being called trash and a parasite than the grandson-in-law of the Kyle family? He's even so shameless as to stand there without bringing a single gift for grandma and instead asks for money."

"Yes. Look, I even brought grandma lots of gifts. Meanwhile, your husband with a shameless face came and asked for money," said Renal, also insulting Gerald. The grandmother, who was fed up, finally got up from her seat and slapped her grandson-in-law's cheek hard.

"How dare you ruin my birthday party. Don't you have any shame? Before you get any worse, you better get out of here!" said Kyle's grandmother loudly.

Gerald's head just bowed deeply, he turned around and then without another word left the house. However, before Gerald really left there, suddenly a man came into the house in a very neat suit, carrying a dozen burly bodyguards. Gerald was shocked when he found out that it was his adopted brother Christian, who had betrayed his family.

"Grandma, happy birthday. I bought a dozen luxurious gifts just for you," said Christian.

He didn't even see Gerald there at all even though Christian actually knew that Harley was his adopted brother's wife. Christian don't care because they are not on the same level.

"What are you still here for? Don't you have money to go home? Take this, it's more than enough, it won't get you home!" said Renal sneeringly as he threw a five dollar bill under Gerald's feet.

Gerald's hands clenched tightly into fists at that very moment, Harley wanted to step forward to defend her husband but her father and mother immediately stopped giving a signal to the twenty-five year old woman to remain silent so that Kyle's grandmother wouldn't get even angrier. Of course, she could actually understand her husband's feelings at this time. But there was nothing Harley could do other than obey what her mother said. After all, if he defended Gerald he would only get misery and poverty.

Everyone looked full of disgust and laughter on their faces, including the adopted sister who had betrayed her own family and even laughed at Gerald so reproachfully. Gerald clenched his fists tightly, gritted his teeth in annoyance and left the house.

"You are all too much," thought Gerald.

On the road, Gerald seemed to feel very frustrated and confused and confused about where else to find the five thousand dollars. Today is the final payment deadline so I still haven't received it until evening. In the midst of the confusion that had hit his heart, his cell phone suddenly rang.

"Happy birthday, young master. I hope to meet you to transfer ownership of Wayne Corps to you." Gerald's eyes widened when he saw the contents of the message.
