Chapter 9

The person who was targeted was unable to utter a word, his head lowered, his face looked unbearably pale due to the fear that enveloped him. Grandma started to growl in annoyance because the situation had strayed far from the topic of conversation. They glared sharply at Renal.

"Enough! Stop this chatter," said the grandmother firmly.

"Mother just kept silent watching Harley being hurt like that? Please open your eyes, mother, that all this time Harley has been up and down building the Kyle Group since his father left temporarily because of the arrival of Renal, who he said was precious gold at his university?" said Gerald's mother-in-law.

"Auntie, watch your words, I am indeed a golden child and grandmother should be proud of me," said Renal arrogantly.

"Enough! That's enough, aren't you embarrassed Renal with your words and behavior? You look even more rubbish compared to Gerald. If you are indeed capable of getting a contract with the Wayne Corporation, just prove it. Don't keep talking at length and ultimately asking for validation from everyone ," said grandmother.

Harley smiled, satisfied with what his grandmother said this time, he felt victorious compared to his cousin who had no contribution at all in advancing the company.

"Will grandma believe Harley can win that contract again?" Renal asked, not satisfied with this conversation.

"Of course, he has even proven it himself," answered the grandmother.

"Grandma, you were just tricked by your grandson. He was afraid to fight me and did whatever he could to sell himself to the new owner of the Wayne Corporation and asked him not to pass. Even though everyone on the West Island knows that I am smarter than Harley," Renal answered.

Harley's hands clenched into tight fists, his veins felt increasingly tense as disbelief flooded his mind due to the slander uttered by Renal. Selling himself to the new owner of Wayne Corporation Harley could only shake his head.

"Renal, you are completely wrong!" Harley interrupted, full of disappointment.

"What big mistake? All my accusations can be accepted by everyone. How can Wayne Corporation just accept cooperation with you when he knows that the Kyle Group is nothing," Renal snapped.

"No nothing?!" Gerald exclaimed, causing Renal to close his mouth and turn towards his grandmother who was crumpling the dining table napkin as if she was disappointed with Renal's words.

"I mean Wayne Corporation is a very large company, I feel it is absolutely impossible if they accept Harley's job offer which can only benefit the company by less than one percent," explained Renal.

"There's no need to talk too much. When you two only get the contract for one week, remember there will be consequences that you will have to bear in the future," said the grandmother.

Renal himself was confused about how he could get a cooperation contract with Wayne Corporations, remembering that this morning's incident of being expelled and being treated so insultingly by the company made him hesitate to return.

"What if they don't want to accept my presence?" Renal thought.

Renal tried to think hard, a confused expression was clearly visible on his face, but he tried to remain confident in front of his grandmother and other family members, even though he was actually afraid in his heart. One by one they started to disperse, suddenly Gerald's mother-in-law exploded with anger on her face, her eyes glared at her son-in-law.

"Don't you feel guilty about bringing Harley to the brink of destruction?!" he shouted.

 "No, mother," replied Gerald briefly.

"You think Harley can fight Renal, you crazy son-in-law?!" he shouted again.

"Mother, don't doubt Harley's potential? My wife, the smartest woman, should support and encourage me to win this collaboration contract," said Gerald.

"Don't divert the conversation. I don't doubt my son's potential. What is at issue is your actions against Renal. Who are you to dare to oppose him? Your attitude even exceeds that of the owner of the Wayne Corporation, you arrogant bastard," he added.

"Mother, this time trust Harley. She will do the best she has done before and Gerald believes that," replied Gerald, reassuring his stubborn mother-in-law. The mother-in-law was seen pouting while biting her lip as a sign of annoyance and anger towards Gerald, suspecting that he had lost his mind beyond limits with his actions.

The mother-in-law's thoughts then turned to Renal, who had only been silent as a listener, but the contents of her head were currently in turmoil, but the old woman suspected that this arrogant man had already mastered the intrigue of carrying out his actions.

"This child cannot be left alone," thought Gerald's mother-in-law.

While the house was still filled with tension, suddenly the door of the house was knocked by Gerald's mother-in-law and opened it but his eyes saw that his son-in-law was standing right next to him.

“Mother, a strange man is outside,” pointed out Gerald.

“Move! You have no right to entertain his arrival," he said harshly.

"Gerald only told mother," he said quietly. Harley's mother didn't care what Gerald said because she was fed up with her useless son-in-law.

"Edward, are you here yet?" welcome mother-in-law.

"Auntie, is Harley here?" Edward asked straight to the point, he didn't even care that Gerald was looking at him.

"Auntie didn't see it wrong, right?" he asked happily.

"No, Auntie," he said with a smile.

"Who's coming?" Harley asked curiously because suddenly guests were not invited to visit his house. Edward Johnson came to the house confidently wanting to ask Harley out on a date, hoping that his mother would support him and then urged Harley to get to know him.

“Look who's here Harley!” he pointed out while smiling broadly.

 "Edwards?!" Harley screamed.

Edward nodded at the various special souvenirs he brought in a teakwood box filled with fresh fruit such as persimmons and luxurious red apples while showing a charming smile.

"Harley, I brought you something," he said kindly.

"My goodness, this man is so polite, he really suits Harley, not that stupid son-in-law." Gerald's mother-in-law was stunned for a moment, then turned to Gerald, showing an expression of disgust because so far her son-in-law had never been able to give her one apple in his life.

"Go away, I'm too lazy to serve you Edward!" Harley exclaimed.

"Harley watch your mouth?!" his mother screamed.

"Don't worry Harley, I didn't come here to take you somewhere but to congratulate you on your bravery against your arrogant cousin, Renal. I also asked my father, his friend from the old owner of the Wayne Corporation, to help you get the cooperation contract. I can guarantee that they will accept your contract. Everyone was stunned when they heard Edward's words, while Gerald just remained silent not far from where they were sitting.

The Johnson family is well-known in the world of real estate companies in West Island City, and in the last three years they have been ranked second best, so Edward is confident that he will help Harley.

"Harley, you have to take this opportunity. This time Renal definitely won't be able to move if you win the cooperation contract," whispered his mother.

"I don't want to, mother," replied Harley briefly.
