Chapter 5 [Character Development]

"Kyaaaaa!"

A loud cry echoed in the depths of a huge forest, causing many beasts and monsters to look about in confusion.

"What kind of abomination are you!?" A beautiful girl sitting on a giant golden lotus in the middle of a lake was currently throwing a tantrum.

An old man wearing a bloodstained white suit was standing in front of the lake emotionlessy.

It was the guardian of The Golden Lotus Lake and Dane.

Back then, Alph had sent Dane again just for the sake of it.

He hadn't known that the trial could be taken by anyone infinitely and it didn't matter which method one used to pass the trial as long as it was aknowledged by the lake it was valid.

Alph had of course pondered over the fact that the Grimoire should have been labeled as an outside force but since the elegant girl and The Lake, as she said it, acknowledged Dane's method then it could only mean one of two things.

Either that the Grimoire Of Gluttony was too powerful for the lake and the girl to detect or that the lake didn't consider the Grimoire an outside force at all.

Either way, it was a very good news for Alph.

It had been four days since then and for these four days he had been doing nothing aside from eating and watching Dane repeatedly take the trial, he occasionally sent Dane to go out and being back food in the form of a reindeer like herbivorous beast that was stupidly bigger and fiercer than it's normal counterpart.

Right now, Alph was feeling ecstatic looking at the small mountain of golden lotus flowers in front of him.

He had counted carefully and currently he possessed three hundred and twenty two golden lotus flowers.

Three hundred! It was enough to activate the character development option six times!

"Dane, continue!" He ordered Dane to continue, he wanted to obtain as many golden lotus as possible.

It was as if he was addicted with collecting the golde Lotus flowers. For some reason he had long forgotten about the urgency and shock from before, his mind was calm and tranquil, as if he was at his home.

However he was bound to be disappointed this time because the guardian seemed to have had enough.

"Hmph, enough! You refuse to tell me the method? You want to act all high and mighty in front of me huh? Let's see how you do that when you can't even take the trial!" She angrily snorted and waved her hand, causing the giant golden lotus to shine brilliantly.

"I, the guardian of the golden lotus lake, hereby declare the man before me ineligible for further participation in any of the trials! Now begone!" The golden light completely swallowed Dane and once the light disintegrated Dane was nowhere to be found.

"Hmph! You forced me to waste my special privilege, I will never forgive you!" The elegant girl, who was red with anger, cursed the so called great master in her heart.

Back to Alph, Dane had been kicked out by the guardian to a random location in the forest and the book's observation had also shifted with him.

Now he could see Dane standing in front of a large tree with no idea of where he was.

"Tsk, I knew it was too smooth sailing!" Alph clicked his tongue but didn't feel too angry or sad since he had already anticipated such a scenario.

He unsummoned Dane and resumoned him back in the cave.

Just to make sure, he ordered him to go back to the lake but once Dane reached the place where the lake should have been he couldn't find it.

"As expected, since even the guardian had to use that giant lotus's power to do whatever she did, it's only natural that it wouldn't be so easy to bypass it. Nevermind, I still managed to obtain so many!" He didn't sulk over it too much and decided to put his plane into action.

He had been mentally planing the best route of survival for himself and the golden lotus played a huge role in it.

By feeding the lotus flowers to the grimoir of gluttony Dane's character would develop and become stronger but as an experienced reader he knew that evolution and upgrade both took time so it was possible that Dane might enter an evolution process and become unusable for a certain period of time.

Which was why he had planned to find the strongest monsters Dane could defeat and turn them into his slaves, of course he knew that they won't recieve extra special abilities and perks like Dane but having two strong monsters to guard him was the best he could ask for right now.

After a long day of searching he finally settled on an exceptionally powerful orc.

And the other one was a strange monster which looked like a large lion with giant feathered wings.

Wind Burst: Uses mana to create a burst of wind in a designated.

Wind Enhanced Wings: Uses mana to enhance their wings with wins attribute, increase their speed and maneuverability for a short amount of time.

As it could be seen, the winged lions, which were called draylions, were inherently far stronger than any other monster he could find.

That coupled with the fact that draylions mostly traveled by air and in packs it would have been impossible for Dane to kill one if he hadn't chanced upon a young, wounded one.

After getting two more slaves Alph decided to try something out.

He ordered the three of them to hunt and bring back the bodies of any monster they could kill.

After all it said that new functions and pages would unlock as long as enough souls were fed to the Grimoire but even after feeding it twenty souls of orcs, goblins and giant wolves nothing seemed to be happening so he decided to forget about it for now and went back to his original plan.

He unsummoned Dane, ready to feed all the golden lotus to the book and enhance his character.

One by one, he threw the Golden lotuses at the Grimoire.

1, 2, 3, 10, 20, 50!

The lotus flowers turned into rays of golden light which enveloped the page, slowly being absorbed by it and in a couple of minutes the page had completely absorbed all the golden light.

Once it was done the page had gone through a huge chanhe, and became an exquisite and extremely high end piece of paper.

It was pure white and the words written on it were golden with red outline, giving it a noble and holy look, which contrasted greatly from the rest of the book.

Alph excitedly picked up the grimoir and started to read the contents of the new page.

[Dane Robert, The First Slave, is going through a major character development.

"As expect!" Alph heaved a sigh of relief since the development time was just seven days.

Although the increased amount required for further development was a bit out of his expectation, it wasn't a big problem.

Without anymore hesitation he started to feed more golden lotus, after all he didn't have any other use for them.

After a couple of minutes the page was enveloped with so much light that it looked like slab of gold.

This time, it took more than an hour for all the light to be absorbed by the page, revealing a golden metallic page on which blood red words were written in a neat and stylish font.

"Sure enough, there is a limit.. Alph muttered as he looked at the texts.

He had expected there to be limitatons to character development, and he seemed he was right not that he could continue character development even if there was no limits since he was only left with 72 Golden Lotus Flowers now.

After making sure there were no problems, Alph began his life as a cave man accompanied by an orc and a draylion.

Meawhile, somewhere in the same forest, a small group of adventurers had been wandering for two weeks.

"Is this really the correct path Kane? We have been in the forest for a dozen days and there is still no sign of any cave!" A burly man who as almost seven feet tall, wearing a league armor and carrying a large battleaxe on his back, grunted as he looked at a skinny man.

There were two dead bodies of giant wolves littered around him.

"Rest assured Raiden, we should should be arriving there in a week's time. I did make some calculation errors but now we are on the correct path" The skinny man wore light leather armour and carried a silver long bow in his hand and arrows on his hips.

"Raiden your body is covered in blood, here let me clean it, CLEANSE!" One of the girls who had a small build and a cute face casted a first circle holy magic which completely cleaned Raiden's body of all filth.

She had long blond hair that reached her thighs and wore a blue and white priestess robe.

"Oh come on Saila~ don't spoil him so much~ You should be saving your mana!" The other girl who had a taller and more mature body than Saila hugged her from behind and teased her.

She had shoulder length purple hair and wore a witch hat and a black tight fit dress which highlighted her curvaceous body.

The last of the group, was a bald man wearing dark grey eastern clothes with two swords on his back.

He quietly followed behind everyone while constantly checking the surroundings with a sharp look.

The group were slowly approaching the cave where Alph was staying in.
