004 - A Badly-done Synthetic Diamond

Victor takes a deep breath. His neck seems to bulge from holding back the mounting anger and frustration.

“That’s nonsense. You are the one who has to give back the dowry I gave to you before we married. Since you are the one asking for a divorce, you are obliged to give it back to me. But you didn’t put it in these documents,” Victor argues.

“You want a divorce? Fine by me! I'll bring this issue to the court right away!”

Victor goes straight to his room. He only washes his face, and after that makes a call to order a taxi.

He gets out of the room, still with rage filling his heart. His steps are so fast and rigid with clenched fist. If Emma were a guy, he would have punched her in the face. But he is still able to hold that anger and is still able to speak to her plainly.

“I’ve called the taxi for us! We’ll clear these matters ASAP.”

But Emma is still just standing there with her arms crossed over her chest. Victor is a little confused and curious, because this should be Emma's will to resolve this divorce. Unbeknownst to Victor, Emma is currently waiting for the arrival of a man who will pick her up.

As soon as Victor opens the door, it turns out that the man is already in front of him, looking like he is about to knock on the door. The man immediately grins evilly with a mocking face as soon as they meet face to face.

Victor is a little surprised because this is not the first time he has seen the man's face. He still remembers that face so clearly. So does that man.

“Oh, hi! Aren't you that delivery man? What are you doing here?” that man greets him.

He is Lucas Atkinson, the same man Victor met before at the pharmaceutical company. Of course Victor isn’t forgetting the face of that man, who just kicked him out yesterday while delivering pizza, and also insulted him before leaving.

“I should be the one asking here. What are you doing in my house?” asks Victor.

“Oh, Honey! Is that you?” Emma barks in, and starts acting like a bitch who just finds her customer.

He rubs that man’s chest so intimately in front of Victor. In fact, her current status is still Victor's wife because they have not finished taking care of the divorce yet.

Victor did not expect that the woman who had been so precious and beautiful in his eyes turned out to be so lowly as a prostitute. Emma was like the best jewel he had found in his life. But now she is like a badly-done synthetic diamond in his eyes.

The guy named Lucas isn’t even holding back himself in front of Victor. He wraps his arm around Emma's waist and brings his nose to her ear.

“Is he your husband?” asks the man with a mocking chuckle. “I can't believe a woman as beautiful as you would want to marry such a pathetic loser like him. Have you divorced him?”

“You came just at the perfect time. We are going to finish this issue now. We can’t stay here for long. Let’s leave!”

Emma grabs the man’s hand and takes him to his luxurious BMW car. Victor can only squint his eyes full of hatred. He can’t even say a word due to how angry he is.

After taking Emma to his car, that man glances at Victor with a mocking face and smile.

“Are you coming with me? Or should I pay for a taxi for you?”

He then just keeps walking to the other side of the car, knowing that Victor would never take his invitation. He even caresses that smooth body of the car as he walks. He keeps looking at Victor while laughing devilishly.

Victor had never felt so humiliated like this in his life. Being insulted by Emma, the one he loved, has hurt his feelings. But now he has to accept that the man he hates so much is the one who steals his wife.

“There’s no way I’d let you win. I won’t let you have any penny from this,” he mutters to himself so deep, full of rage.

The car has not yet left because Victor himself is still standing in front of his house. When Victor has seen the taxi he ordered, only then he locks the door and leaves the house.

As Victor just gets into the taxi, the taxi driver smiles at him. Not a friendly smile, but more like laughing at him with some chuckles.

Victor did come out of his house in a mess. And it seems the taxi driver is quite familiar with his face. Even so, Victor tries to ignore and asks him to just drive the taxi.

Only then does the man named Lucas drive the car, following the taxi from behind.

And just like any taxi drivers in the town, now this old man with the white mustache also starts to invite Victor into a small talk.

“Just going to work at this hour? Aren't you afraid that the Italian man would scold you again?” he asks.

“Huh?” Victor responds with a little curiosity.

He is a little confused, how the taxi driver came to know about him. As far as he remembers, he doesn't usually take a taxi to go to work.

But in reality, Victor had been running errands around the town for years. He doesn’t know how many taxi drivers are familiar with his face because they always see him on the streets. Just like this old taxi driver today, he even knows where Victor works.

Victor is getting more and more irritated as that old man keeps talking to him. Even a taxi driver, who is often friendly to passengers, has now also looked down on him.

Victor just sighs a bit and turns his head to the side of the road.

“Sorry, I don't work with that Italian anymore,” Victor replies.

The taxi driver peers at Victor through the rearview mirror. He then laughs with a little coughing.

“Did you get a new job elsewhere? Seeing your look, I doubt it.”

“If you can keep your mouth shut until we arrive, I'll pay you double,” Victor replies coldly.

“Yeah, yeah! Sure! Just as I thought. Kids these days have short tempers. You just waste your money only for trivial matters like this.”

Only then does Victor stare so coldly into the mirror, looking straight into the eyes of that old driver who also happens to be glancing at him through the same mirror. But the old man doesn't care about how annoyed Victor currently is.

“I hope it's not your last money you're going to give me. Oops, I just keep talking. My bad!” says the taxi driver, following it with nonchalant laughs.
