Chapter Eight

Maxwell watched them in silence as they spoke to each other, flipping through different pages of the book.

He decided to open the envelop which he was given by Matty but just as he was about to bring out the white paper that was inside it, he heard the man speak to him.

"Mr Maxwell... Right" He said to Maxwell who nedded his head in agreement.

"Mr Wilson has told be about the contract you're about to sign in for...." He said in very professional manner.

"That's the reason we sent you that file to fill... I hope you've gone through its content" He said further movin6his gaze from Maxwell to Wilson as he spoke.

"No.. I haven't.. This was given to me just before we came here" Maxwell explained trying to sound as bold as he can.

"Alright... Let's look into it" The lawyer said gesturing at Maxwell to bring out the papers inside the envelope.

Maxwell brought it out while Wilson and the lawyer brought out the same kind of paper from another envelope.

The three of them placed it on the table while the lawyer flipped the first page and asked them to do the same.

Maxwell flipped over to the page and read the content.

It was letter of loan repay from the Justine family to the Wilson family.

Maxwell read the words of Wilson on the page explaining how the payment of the loan as be transfered into a contract between both families.

The contract was going to last for two years and if any family failed to complete their part, the contract will be repeated.

The were rules for the contract and the lawyer asked Maxwell to flip over to the next page so that they'll go through the rules and make a concrete agreement.

Maxwell silently flipped to the next page and the over ten rules were boldly written.

The first rule was that Maxwell must do everything the Wilsons tells him to do without complain.

There's were two boxes at the end of every rule and the lawyer instructed him to tick on the one of the box if he agrees to the rule.

Maxwell obediently ticked the box on the first rule and they moved over to the second one.

The second rule was that Maxwell will never leave the Wilsons Mansion with a permit.

Wilson already gave him a hint about that the previous night before he went to see his parent so he ticked the box without hesitation.

Maxwell moved over to the third rule which stated that he must not host any friend or relative in the Wilsons home and he ticked the box in agreement.

The rules were obviously becoming tougher but tried to act calm so that they wouldn't see the displeasure he was in.

He noticed that Wilson was also ticking the same box whenever he did so also was the lawyer.

The complexity of the situation made him feel unsafe sitting with the men on that table.

He move his gaze over to the fourth rule and which said that he will pay for whatever property of the Wilsons that he damage.

He read it again and ticked the box in agreement.

His gaze moved to the fifth rule and he read it.

He frowned upon reading the fifth rule and looking up to the lawyer he asked "Why is this?.."

"Excuse me... Where is that" The lawyer replied gazing at the paper on his table while trying to locate the area Maxwell was questioning.

"Rule number five..." Maxwell said "The Justines will be accountable for any missing property of the Wilsons althrough his stay" Maxwell read out the rule to the lawyer who kept adjusting his glasses.

"Why will I be accountable for missing properties" Maxwell asked the lawyer who was now staring at Wilson in a way to invite him into the conversation.

"That is because nothing goes missing in the Wilsons mansion..." Wilson finally spoke up staring at Maxwell with an unfriendly expression.

Maxwell thought of the consequences if he agrees to such rule as part of the contact.

"What if someone steals something worth more than the amount that got him this mess?" He asked himself silently.

"I can't agree to that... I do not steal and I cannot take responsibility if someone eventually does" Maxwell said to Wilson in a very clear and determined tone.

Wilson who was looking very upset reminding Maxwell that he has not right to oppose any of the rules that was in the agreement form but Maxwell also reminding him that the deal was a fear game and he was the one benefiting more from the deal.

The lawyer tried to settle the conflict of words but Wilson was already very furious.

Maxwell felt a wave of fear moving through his veins as he stared back at the boiling Wilson but he pretended to alright and calm.

Wilson finally agreed to take out the fifth rule after the lawyer explained some points to him.

Maxwell moved over to the sixth rule which said that he would be arrested if he ever inflict any physical damage on his bride.

Maxwell agreed without hesitation because he knew that he'll definitely not want to harm a person.

The rules apart from the fifth one which was now exempted was no longer looking too tough like he anticipated.

He heart was now becoming calm as he gance at the remaining four rules that he'll be ticking.

The moved over to the seventh rule which started that he'll be responsible for an inconvenience caused by his presence in the Wilson mansion and he agreed.

He wasn't not the type cause inconveniences.

He has grown up living a very lone and gently lifestyle so this wasn't going to be a problem to him at all.

He took a deep breath to relax his mind and moved his gaze to the eight rule on the paper.

The rules were not scaring him anymore but his soft heart could not stop racing.

He coughed loudly upon seeing the eight rule drawing Wilson and the lawyers attention who both stared at him.
