Veronica's voice snapped Mia back to reality. "Do you know any binding spells?"
"What?" "I have a plan," the vampire said, her red eyes never once leaving the Hunter. "But it requires my target to remain motionless. Can you ensure that?" For some unknown reason, Mia's mind flashed with the memory of her first test back at the Arcane Circle. Specifically the moment the Elder was applying that seal on her. She didn't know how but Mia suddenly felt confident in her ability to not only replicate the seal, but alter it to suit her current needs. "Yeah," she said with a confident smile. "I've got something like that." To her surprise, the vampire princess smiled back at her. "Good. Time to end this."Lee's cocky smirk never left his face as he watched as the vampire released a short shout and expelled a crimson aura from her body.
'So she's finally ready to get serious, hmm?' Lee mused. 'I can actually feel her aura all the way here. Looks like the royal bloodline hasn't lost its touch...' 'But still...' He lowered his upper body slightly and tensed his muscles as the vampire vanished in a burst of speed that far exceeded everything she had shown previously. '... that won't be enough.' His right hand flashed up to catch the extended clawed hand of Veronica who had reappeared beside him. Without wasting a second, she rotated her wrist and freed herself before bringing an ax kick down on Lee who blocked with his left forearm. A smug grin appeared on Veronica's face at the way Lee raised an eyebrow the moment the kick landed. "How do you like that you bastard?" Lee scoffed lightly. "Eh, I've seen better." "Oh I bet," she retorted and pushed herself over the Hunter. As Lee moved to track her movements, his senses blared in warning and he leapt back immediately as a massive spear of flames crashed into the spot he had stood on a second ago. The explosive force of the blast honestly surprised Lee, although he didn't have the time to admire that as he noticed several more spears headed his way. The spears slammed into the ground with the force of an exploding grenade while Lee dodged each one with light well timed jumps backward. As he evaded the final one, his eyes widened and he forcefully rotated himself to avoid the blood magic-coated fist that sought to pop his head off his neck. Veronica landed on the ground and immediately went on an onslaught of punches, jabs and kicks against the Hunter. Quickly forced on the back foot, Lee bobbed and weaved around her strikes with only an inch or two of space separating him from her attacks much to the annoyance of the vampire. An overhead kick caused Lee to lean backwards and a follow up slide had him flowing into a backflip only to freeze as a near invisible force held him in place. Feeling her magic rapidly losing its hold over him, Mia swung her hand sharply to the left with a yell, sending the Hunter straight into a large tree. Or at least that was the intention. Halfway to the tree, Lee broke out of the telekinesis spell and positioned his body to land feet first on the tree. In a flash, he kicked off the tree's trunk and was in front of Mia faster than she could react. But not faster than a Blood Magic wielding vampire it would seem, as Veronica appeared, her body releasing faint wisps of red energy, right in time to redirect Lee's punch with a kick. The Hunter's fist cratered the ground and Lee quickly moved his body to the left as a burst of razor sharp winds ripped the earth apart around him. With the Hunter sufficiently occupied, Mia finally raised her other hand that had remained at her side since the second stage of the fight. A row of five magic circles sprang into existence along the length of her arm and as she waved it upwards, they separated and floated into the air. "Super quinque columnas destructionis!" She shouted, a massive increase in pressure falling on the entire clearing at the utterance of the magic filled words. "Vocem meam audi et exaudi vocem meam. Astringite, et tenete, principes chaos!" The circles flashed brightly and reshaped themselves into long pink pillars of energy that slammed into the ground all around Lee. Numerous chains of ethereal energy burst out of the pillars to wrap around the Hunter tightly. Having not expected such a complex binding spell and thus being unable to dodge it, Lee immediately began forcing his arms outward to break free. Mia clenched her teeth as she felt her magic chains straining under the Hunter's shockingly great strength. "Whatever you're going to do, do it now!" She yelled at her 'partner'.Veronica who was standing a few meters away from the border of the binding spell grinned and flexed her claws before using them to slice open her wrists. The inevitable spray of blood that followed immediately paused its motion in the air, before coming to meld with Veronica's claws, greatly increasing their length and turning them red. The red aura around her intensified momentarily as she shifted one leg back in preparation.
"Tehnica Sânge Interzis: Impaler Nemuritor!" Her already long blood claws elongated even further at incredible speed to pierce the ground. From the spot of entry, ten glowing lines of crimson energy zigzagged across the ground in the direction of the immobile Hunter. The moment the lines were within five feet of him, the ground around him exploded outwards into a massive blooming flower of blood spikes, throwing dust and smoke everywhere. The two girls stared at the large cloud of brown and red dust. Both were panting slightly, which was fair considering the magnitude of spells they had just used. The whole fight had taken less than ten minutes but to them it must have seemed like hours. Their opponent had not only been incredibly strong but impossibly fast with an insane reaction speed. Veronica exhaled in slight relief as well as annoyance though the latter emotion was quite unfounded and she knew it. It definitely irked her that she had to go as far as to use one of her family's most sacred techniques just to be able to land a straight hit. But another more logical part of her knew that it was wishful thinking that she had ever expected to push the Hunter at all without actually getting serious. After all, this was—
It was nearly unnoticeable but with her sensory ability greatly enhanced by her Blood Magic, it was easy for Veronica to catch the sharp intake of breath and the sudden and rapidly elevating heart beat of the witch beside her. "It's not over yet," Mia whispered in shock. "What?!" Veronica hissed more out of shock than anger. The more logical part of her brain must have thought everything through and deep down she knew something like this would never have been enough to stop a Hunter. But her emotions seemed to be clouding her thoughts at the moment hence why she found the scene in front of her impossible. The blood spikes numbered up to ten and had risen out of the ground in a disorderly fashion, an intentional effect of the spell considering it was originally designed to be unpredictable. But how could that attribute be tagged onto a spell that its target had managed to complete this kind of feat? The first two had gone straight through the right side of his jacket and had even torn through his shirt, only barely missing his skin by a centimeter. Three spikes had been avoided by a sharp duck of his white haired head and one had gone straight through his legs. Spikes numbers seven through ten struck out randomly and each of them had been avoided in the most unconventional way one could imagine. By moving parts of his body directly into the line of attack, Lee had been able to completely minimize the damage done to his person by dodging at the last possible second. The end result? Not a single scratch was on his body. His clothes however were littered with rips, tears, holes and even burn marks. Perhaps the most amazing fact had been the fact that he had not only been to predict and dodge an unpredictable attack like that, but that he had done so whilst still restrained by the ethereal chains of Mia's earlier spell. However due to his clever positioning, most of the blood spikes had shattered the chains around him. "Very good, the both of you," he commended from beneath his bangs of white hair that had fallen over his eyes. "However~"A heavy pressure far more than the previous one descended on the clearing and a loud boom scattered the dust cloud. With one surprisingly powerful round kick, Lee shattered every single blood spike around him. Veronica was barely able to make out a faint flicker as he blurred out of the binding spell. The next thing she knew, she was instinctively pushing Mia out of the way of a fatal thrust by the Asian Hunter who had appeared right in front of them. As a result, the broken spike of solidified blood ended up embedded into her forearm. His eyes, Veronica noted with no small amount of shock even as he planted his left foot in her abdomen, had turned a bright crimson color. With the vampire out of the fight, Lee focused all his attention on the magic user who had already began to summon up magic circles for another spell. Lee grinned and proceeded to punch straight through the glowing constructs, shattering them into a million pieces of energy much to Mia's surprise. She recovered out of her stunned state admirably quickly and had already leaped back to put some distance between herself and the wildly grinning Hunter. More circles appeared around her hands as her mind called on more spells to—
Mia froze mid-cast, allowing Lee to close the space between them near instantly but more importantly, allowing her to see the color of his transformed eyes. Wait a minute... Are his eyes red?!"Lee?"
All three of them snapped their heads towards the direction the voice had come from. Michael stepped through the ashen colored rift in space and took a look at the destroyed clearing and the sight of his pack mate with his hand aimed to pierce the neck of the girl he was supposed to be looking after. His next words reflected his exact thoughts.
"What the hell happened?""Why did you wait so long to tell me about this?" "It didn't seem that important at first!" "'Didn't seem important?' How did that not seem important?" "Clearly you don't know as much about vampires as you think you do. Because if you did, you would know that it is impossible, even for a Royal Blood like me to completely shepherd such a large number of vampires! We are creatures of the night and its desires! We don't play by the rules of your day world!" "Well apparently neither does this mysterious killer and guess who's winning in the score sheet now?!" After a long talk where the three of them had explained–Mia had explained, while Veronica had just stood there glaring at Lee who never stopped smirking mockingly in return–the reason for their impromptu battle, Veronica had finally revealed her reason for seeking out the leader of the Hunters. A week ago, one of the vampires had left to feed but had failed to return the following day. According to his roommate, he never

They reached the Hunters/witches dorm building after several minutes of trekking across the campus. Most of the courses that the Parapsychology students studied were held in some of the academy's amphitheater-like buildings, all of which were located a fair distance from the dorm areas. The walk was annoying for most students especially when they were in a hurry, but at least it served as a good cardio workout for those who couldn't be bothered to visit a gym. When the two young adults reached the shared common room of the top floor, they were met with the sight of Jade kneeling on the floor at one edge of the room. Most of the furniture and other stuff had been moved to make space for the massive magic circle that had been drawn on the wooden floor with what looked like chalk. The drawer herself was moving around the circle carefully to avoid erasing any portion, while using the chalk-like item in her hand to draw numerous runic symbols within the circle. "Certainly took your
"This is not good." "Yeah no kidding." "Oh shut up Lee. This is serious." All five Hunters had gathered in Michael's room. As both their leader and an alpha, it was only right that his living space was the biggest among the team. With Dean lying on the large bed and Olivia sitting beside him, there was still more than enough room for Lee to lean against the door and Jade who was sitting at the study desk. The owner of the room himself was standing, his eyes fixed in a pensive stare as he watched Olivia glide her hands which glowed green with her magic over Dean's body. No one had asked her to do that since there hadn't been any visible wound on the other Hunter's body earlier but her love and worry for her teammate had driven her to his side from the moment she had stepped into the room. Nevertheless, no one made a move to stop her. Because, more than they were a team, the Hunters were a family who relied and cared for each other. And family always took care of family. "Wh
The order came like a death sentence, which it essentially was. The startled captain actually stepped back subconsciously at the absoluteness of that statement, as did a good majority of his soldiers. Hugo watched with a growing sense of apprehension as a dark grin spread across the face of the dark haired girl, presumably the one called Jade, as she moved to stand in front of the sandy haired young man. "You guys might want to back up a bit," she warned playfully. It took Hugo a few seconds to realize that she was not talking to them but to her own colleagues and less than one second to understand why. The moment the girl took a step forward, it felt like the air itself had become heavier. An indescribable pressure descended on the entire squad of guards, rooting them to the very spot they stood. It was when Hugo felt the ground beneath him begin to rumble and shake that he knew that this would not be an easy opponent. The unknown girl must have been an highly skilled mage with
His boots carved trenches through the earth as he slid to a stop almost a dozen meters away. Jade smirked at the man's hardened expression. That last attack had carried a fair bit more power than she had been using so far. From where he stood, Hugo sent multiple energy slashes from his sword which she tore apart with her bare hands. However just as she had done that, twelve large white magic circles appeared around her, enclosing her within a circle. Each circle was maintained by two ACDC mages with one forming the framework and the other supplying the energy. "And what is this supposed to do?" Jade asked in her perpetually condescending tone. "Mock while you can, invader," Hugo declared in a booming voice that roused up morale among his men. "You have been a most worthy adversary. Your strength and skill cannot be underestimated. But this is where it ends." He threw his sword high into the air and manipulated it telekinetically to remain suspended in the air directly above J
The night sky was only slightly cloudy, allowing the full moon and the bright stars to light up the inky black canvas above. With such pleasant weather conditions, it was no surprise that the first game of the season had been scheduled to hold tonight. By the twentieth hour of the day, Starlight Central Academy was just about ready to commence its first match against Providence University. The stands were packed with students from both colleges cheering and chanting their respective school mottos. There were of course several minor alterations between a few hotheads but those were quickly settled by selected security supervisors. There was still about a quarter of an hour until the match was to begin so the cheer squads of each team took to the fields to raise school spirits. Inside the main locker room for the home team, the coach of the Starlight Comets drilled the summarizations of the strategies and plays practiced over the past weeks into the heads of the burly boys in blue a
A loud cheer erupted from the stands outside as the referee called a touchdown for the home team, their third in a row. The school cheer squad broke out into a dance to celebrate their team's lead. But that mattered little to two girls up in an empty classroom at the top floor of the Astronomy Department. "Are you sure you're okay?" Veronica asked for the umpteenth time. Mia rolled her eyes and smiled at the vampire. "Like I've said the past god-knows-how many times, I'm fine. Besides when did you start caring so much?" "I don't," she replied sharply before glaring in the direction of the ongoing game. "But I'll take any chance I can get to rip that bastard apart." Ever since she had found Mia in that empty hallway frozen like a statue, Veronica had hounded the girl ceaselessly for the details of her conversation with the platinum blonde Hunter. But the witch had been unusually cagey about the whole thing, often brushing off the questions by teasing Veronica about her 'worr
Rosaline stared at the ground in front of her where a raised mound of earth was all that remained of one of her longest friends. The pain and grief in her heart was far greater than the ones still wracking her body even as she stood in the pouring rain. Unlike other mounds around her, this one did not have a cross atop it, nor did it have a headstone. Rosaline had felt it would definitely not be fitting to put up a cross on Aria's grave considering how the girl had died. And as for a headstone, she had considered it at first, but that idea had eventually been discarded. After all, even if she were to make one, what would she write on it? Aria was the last of her family to die and as far as Rosaline knew, the girl did not have any other relations outside the Order of The New World. Even within the organisation, the only people she had really gotten along with had been Rosaline herself and Ezra. The latter had been in a strange love-hate relationship with Aria, something that Rosali
Chapter Ninety Eight: A Coming Storm Mia could not stop staring at the girl lying oh so innocently on that white hospital bed like she had not just tried to suck away all of Mia's powers like some kind of energy leech. The memory of that terrifying experience was still very fresh and raw in her mind, leaving her very uneasy about getting any closer than six feet to the girl's bed. She just kept pacing back and forth, imagining just what could have done this to the girl before her. But Rin was in no mood for such indecision. "Hey Mia," the ex assassin snapped the mage out of her thoughts sharply. "What the hell just happened right now?" "I... I don't really know..." She answered, her voice less shaky that it had been a few seconds ago but still just as uncertain. "I mean I thought I had recognized her from somewhere but when we first got here, I wasn't able to get a reading so I just thought I had been imagining things... But this..." "Ok you better start making sense or I'm
"As you know by now, all of the Hunters possess a specific Variant ability in addition to the powers we already have by virtue of our werewolf nature," Olivia explained. "Michael has his Erasure, Dean has Absolute Death Inducement, Jade has Space and Time Manipulation and Lee had his own particular brand of Blood Magic. As for me, well the closest thing we've been able to find as a suitable name for my ability was the Eternal Soul." "The Eternal Soul?" Mia repeated in surprise. "And if that name was to be believed literally," Rin leveled the girl with a flat look. "Then it means you are essentially immortal?" "That is correct." "But Shin said that he had both gravely injured you and hit you with an unavoidable attack that was meant to inflict death upon any target it hit regardless of—" "Ah ah, that's where you're wrong," Olivia cut in with a knowing grin. "Immortality does not always equal to invulnerability. You can cut me, stab me, shoot me and I'll still bleed just li
As the morning sun rose above the sky of Starlight Central Academy, the shrill sound of the wind whistling through the rows of ornamental trees planted all over the school was nearly drowned out by the loud singing from the large open field that was situated just off the north of the school. The pitch was mostly devoid of regular students leaving only members of the two most well known extra curricular clubs in the entire academy: the football team and the cheerleading squad. Both were having their practices on the same field, which was fortunately large enough to easily accommodate the two groups without either having to worry about bothering the other. As the cheer squad went through the complex choreography of their routine, a lone figure sitting on the middle row in the bleachers watched them with unconcealed interest. A few of the girls on the squad had noticed the individual's staring and had begun to whisper among themselves. Eventually one of them seemed to have had enoug
Sometimes Loretta wondered if this power she had been born with was a blessing or a curse. The Celestial Eyes had always been something she had taken extreme pride in. With those Eyes, there was practically nothing that was hidden to her. She could see all the truths of the world, the inner workings of the human mind, even the most concealed secrets of most people she came across every day. But for the first time in her life, Loretta felt completely blind and lost on what to do as she stood on the paved walkway along the avenue that led out of the residential part of the campus. There was a slight chill in the air, something that was not uncommon this early in August since that was when fall started bleeding into winter. But though Loretta had worn a comfy looking long sleeved blue parka jacket and was even going as far as to keep cycling her magic through her body at all times, it did not alleviate the cold that was boring into her soul. At least unlike the last time she had
A single flap of his wings had him closing the distance between them immediately, his swords coming up for a double diagonal slash from both sides. Ezra reacted accordingly by blocking both attacks with a brand new pair of blood axes that formed instantaneously from the swirling magic around him. Vincent raised an eyebrow at the appearance of a second arm in the vampire's body, formed from solidified energy to replace the the Exorcist had severed earlier tonight. But even then, the strength of a Celestial being was not something that could be matched by simple Blood Magic. The axes shattered after a few seconds of bearing the weight of the Exorcist's power and Vincent attacked again. Having fully expected this, Ezra did not make any attempt to dodge since doing so would put him in a far more unfavorable position than he already was. Rather he stepped forward and raised his arm, the one that was made of energy and intercepted the stab. The sword pierced right through the arm but t
Vincent dove down sharply in the direction of Rosaline, having deemed her as the biggest threat among all three at the moment. Technically neither of them were a threat in actuality but the Exorcist still felt it it would be better to be safe that sorry later. The Arcane mage dodged out of the way of the dive-bombing angel/human but was immediately forced on the defence by the Exorcist's constant barrage of attacks. Whenever she tried to make space between them to cast one of her more powerful incantations, the man would always choose to close the distance between them with one flap of his wings. The first couple of strikes she had defended against with her stave had already gotten her seriously concerned since she had felt her own weapon crack ominously. A follow up diagonal slash directed her left arm away, leaving her open for another attack which came in the form of a powerful kick that Rosaline was barely able to block using the stave. The force of the blow snapped the st
The first time Ariana Carmine had ever seen an Exorcist had been when she was twelve. At that age, she had just barely matured enough to understand that the world was not as black and white as the teachers at her school had made it out to be. There had been duties, obligations and responsibilities that had been the cause of many arguments in her home back then. Every day she came home from school, she would almost never failed to find one new letter joining the stack on the table by the door. Whenever that was the case, her mom and dad would enter a shouting match that was often so bad that she would always flee into the safety of their attic to escape the noises. Eventually her parents found a way to somehow settle some of their outstanding bills. Right from a young age Ariana had always known that her mom and dad were... special in a way most other kids' parents were not. She had liked it back then, liked how she would come back from visiting a friend's house sometimes and get
"Is it over?" Ezra asked as he rotated his left arm in a slow circle. "Did that last attack get him?" "I doubt it," Rosaline said, the irises of her eyes gaining an electric blue glow as she pushed arcane energy into them to boost her eyesight. "I saw him just before that last strike hit. His expression was way too relaxed for someone facing the possibility of instant death. He probably had a way to survive that thing." Ezra looked back at the large cloud of smoke and dust that drifted upwards slowly. The vampire chuckled in disbelief. "Well damn. If he really does survive that, then he is one tough son of a bitch." Beside the dark skinned mage, Aria tightened her hold on her daggers impulsively. "... We have to... We need to kill him..." "Someone sounds like they have a personal grudge," Ezra said with a smirk full of mischief. "Care to share with the rest of the class?" Aria turned to glare furiously at him. "It's none of your business—" "Actually it is," Rosaline cut
