The Iconic Man

Chapter 3

After a long day Amanda was brought back home in a luxury car. It was the same man that John saw at the restaurant. John stood beside the window and watched his wife coming out of the car and was hugged by the man. John was very furious but tried to calm himself down.

Amanda rang the doorbell and John opened the door for her, she entered and heading to the bedroom without greeting her John as she stepped forward,

John drew her back and said, "Where are you coming from at this late hour and what is going on between you and that man that hugged you?".

Amanda responded "What is your problem you this good for nothing man that call himself husband, for your information that man is not an ordinary man he is the father of my unborn child so please excuse me"

John was angry with the word unborn child, he said " So you are pregnant and I didn't know so I have been allowing a bastard child to dwell in my house. Have noticed you since the moment you have changed from the Amanda I proposed to you.

Before John could finish his statement Amanda yelled at him saying " Are you not the cause of all this? I tried enough for you back from our University days to the day we got married!. You didn't have shame at all as a whole graduate working as a delivery boy, you could not provide enough food nor provide money for me to use, and as for me am tired I don't come to this world to suffer".

John was very saddened, Amanda then spoke with no remorse" I have called my lawyer that I want a divorce and by tomorrow morning the papers we will be here for you to sign".

John was in a state of confusion, Amanda went to the bedroom and slept. John was in the sitting room not knowing what to do, he later slept off after a long time of thinking.

That morning the doorbell rings. John was still sleeping on the couch in the sitting room and Amanda came to open the door.

Finally it was the lawyer, they both greeted themselves Amanda went straight and yelled at John "wake up lazy fellow the lawyer is here get up and sign the papers".

John opened his eyes and saw the lawyer and they both greeted each other, John taking a deep breath.

The lawyer said "Mr Ericson John, your wife has filed for a divorce and I would like you to sign the divorce paper.

John faced his wife and said "Deep down in your heart is there anything called love for me,when last was the time you sat down and prayed for me. Have you ever tried to help our financial status, all you do is yell at me, pick up fights with me".

Amanda yelled at him " Sign the paper and let's get over it". She brought him a pen".

John replied "Yelling is what you are good at, can't you be patient and calm like the old time when we first met".

Amanda was very furious, she dropped the papers on the table saying " John can you ever be rich in life? As for me, I am tired of living with poverty so therefore sign these papers although you have no property that we can share Ohh my God, I regret marrying you, you this good for nothing idiot".

John said "Only if you can be patient enough will the time of happiness be near".

Before John could finish his statement Amanda bursted into laughter. The lawyer was running out of time, the lawyer cleared his throat.

John signed the papers and handed it over to the lawyer. Amanda putting on a smiling face gives the lawyer a hand shake and escorted him out.

After a while Amanda started to pack up her things and was ready to leave when she entered the sitting room she met John in the sitting room doing nothing.

Amanda smiled and said "All this you are doing is not going to help you, you sat down here wasting your time. Let me tell you something, you can never have a wife, you church rat".

John didn't give her a listening ear. Few minutes later a black smashing car parked at the front of John house,

John peeped through the window and saw it was Amanda's lover so he went back to what he was doing.

Amanda happily said " Thanks heavens they finally are out of poverty" immediately she packed her things out and met the man. They hugged each other and drove away.

John sheaths tears seeing his wife leaving him for a wealthy man. The memories of their relationship started coming to his head after a lot of time crying and sobbing he got to hold up himself.

John was determined in his mind and said " I will work hard at all costs and get rich and when the time comes I will prove to her that I am better than her new husband and make her kneel before me".

This weekend, John went out to see his friend Sonia. On his way out he saw a wedding poster of Amanda getting married. He was not surprised. He went forth on his way after covering some kilometers he saw Sonia on her way coming from a delivery house he quickly stopped her.

Sonia was very happy to see him. They both greeted each other, and they found somewhere to talk.

Sonia said "You re-signed two days ago and it has been like you re-signed two years ago".

John smiled and said "I was heading to the restaurant to come and say hello to you but here you are" they both smiled at each other.

Sonia said I saw your wife on social media saying she is getting married soon with a man named Carrington Austin".

John replied '' I also saw the poster on my way coming, she has already left the house and followed the man in fact she said she is pregnant for him. She packed her things and left yesterday".

Sonia said with everything you have done for her she is such an ingrate, don't worry yourself she has done her best so now you have to show her the best in you that no one has ever seen".

Thank you very much for all your support and word of encouragement since starting from her first day we know each other you have always been of a great help.

They both smiled after a long conversation Sonia received a call to return back to the restaurant, they both greeted themselves and left.

John was very happy with Sonia's words and was smiling as he was heading to the supermarket to get new clothes to wear to the company he was asked to come to. On getting there he bought a shirt and a trouser with a pair of shoes that will make him look more okay.

As he got to the counter to pay for what he bought he saw Amanda and her new lover taking pictures and buying food stuff. He looked away from their side and he paid for what he bought and left without them seeing him.

As he gets out of the supermarket he shakes his head and left.
