The new CEO

Chapter 5

"An arranged marriage?" Miles muttered, stunned. This was the least of the things he had expected. Becoming a billionaire overnight and getting into an arranged marriage. It was shocking.

"The young lady's grandfather had done a favor for Mr. James in the past and because of that, Mr. James had promised him that his son would marry the man's granddaughter in the future..." He paused and observed Miles's expressionless face before he continued.

"Since Mr. James didn't have a son, he had written in his will that his heir would fulfill the marriage," he explained to Miles.

"The marriage is just going to be valid for a year and if after you both find that you are not compatible, then you can file for a divorce then. You will still get the inheritance even after the divorce," Miles swallowed the lump that formed in his throat as he stared at Mr. Ace explained everything to him.

No matter the angle which Miles tried to look at this from, he couldn't help but think that this was all crazy. He had just been cheated on by his beloved girlfriend whom he was mad over in the last few years and to him, he didn't want to ever have anything to do with any woman, at least for now, and now he had to get into an arranged marriage with some stranger? Does it even make any sense?

"So, what do you say, Mr. Miles?" Miles thoughts were disrupted by Mr. Ace's voice and he looked at the man, confused on whether to accept the offer or decline it. His life had been rough over the years that he could barely feed and clothe himself if not for the delivery job he had been surviving on. This was supposed to be a life changer for him, but would he be able to do this?

'Come back to me when you upgrade your life' Recalling those words his now ex-girlfriend said to him, he bit his bottom lip and sighed briefly.

"You said I can get a divorce after one year, right?" Miles leaned forward and asked him.

"Of course, you can, Mr. Miles, if you don't love her or if you don't find her compatible," He replied to Miles, and he sighed in relief. At least, he would be able to endure being with the stranger for just one year, and they would part ways then. If there was anything he was sure about, then it was falling in love with the strange lady he hadn't even met yet. It didn't matter to him how beautiful she would be, he was sure that he wasn't ever going to fall for her. Not after what a woman had done to him.

"I agree," Miles finally replied to Mr. Ace, and a small smile formed on the man's lips.

"Here are the marriage documents. You should sign them, and we'll be done with the marriage," Mr. Ace dropped a few papers on the desk and pushed it to Miles.

"I'm just going to sign the papers without even seeing the lady?" Miles was going to ask, but he quickly changed his mind, remembering that seeing the lady would never change anything as it had all been written and perfected.

"Attach your signature here," Mr. Ace pointed to a place where Miles was supposed to sign, and just like that, Miles took a pen and attached his signature to the spot.

"Great. So..." Mr. Ace paused as he packed up the papers and arranged them in front of him.

"During the marriage, you would have to hide your identity as a billionaire. We need to be sure whether the young lady will nicely as a poor man and not because you are wealthy," Miles's face dropped disappointedly.

"Why do I have to do that?" Miles intended to ask even though the reason had been stated to him, but he held himself back and just sighed.

"Do I really need to do that? I'm sure no woman will treat a broke man nicely, so don't you think that's going to be stressful?" Miles suggested because he wasn't cut up for this. He had just gotten out of a relationship that stressed life out of him and he wasn't ready to be treated like a piece of trash by another woman again. He wasn't born to be treated like a crap.

"Mr. James already took care of everything before his demise, so you have nothing to worry about. She will marry you," Even after Mr. Ace assured him, it was still hard to believe that a woman would be willing to be with a broke man like himself.

"So, what do you say?" Mr. Ace asked Miles as if he had a choice at that point.

"I agree," Miles replied to him hesitantly.

Miles watched as Mr. Ace pulled out the drawer of his cabinet then brought out a bank card and dropped it on the desk. He pushed it to Miles.

"The card has a hundred billion dollars in it for your personal use..." Mr. Ace paused then reclined on the chair and smiled at Miles.

"This is only a small part of the company's assets, and more will be coming your way in the future. Use it however you want it, Mr. Miles," Mr. Ace further said, and Miles's jaw dropped shockingly.

Slowly, Miles reached for the card and picked it up. He rubbed his fingers on it subconsciously, trying to observe if this was real or not, and when it turned out real, he felt his heart waver in excitement. He was wealthy now! He had just turned not a millionaire, but a fucking billionaire!

"Thank you. I'll be on my way," Miles stood up and uttered.

"Thank you so much for accepting to be our boss here, Mr. Miles," Mr. Ace stood up too, and bowed to Miles.

Excited, Miles sauntered toward the door and left Mr. Ace's office.

"It was nice having you around, Sir," Daisy, Mr. Ace's secretary quickly rose up and bowed to Miles as soon as he stepped into her office, but he only nodded slightly and proceeded toward the exit door, leaving the office immediately.

Miles took the elevator to the first floor and two security guards welcomed him as soon as he stepped out of the elevator. The receptionist from earlier didn't fail to stand there along with the security guards.

"That's him. Take that piece of trash out of here this minute!" The young lady ordered the security angrily.

"I am the new boss here, young lady," Miles uttered with a bit of anger resounding in his voice, and the receptionist scoffed amusingly.

"Have you lost your mind? Whose boss? You must've lost it. You are not only a beggar but a moron too. Take him away!" The young lady snapped disrespectfully, but just before the security guards could act, the elevator rolled open and Mr. Ace stepped out along with Daisy.

"What is going on here?" Mr. Ace asked the receptionist.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't mean to let this piece of trash into your office. He forced his way inside. I didn't mean to. I'm very sorry," the receptionist apologized to Mr. Ace whose face darkened with anger almost immediately.

"How dare you say that to our President!" Mr. Ace scolded the receptionist and her eyes narrowed in shock.
