Chapter 5
"An arranged marriage?" Miles muttered, stunned. This was the least of the things he had expected. Becoming a billionaire overnight and getting into an arranged marriage. It was shocking."The young lady's grandfather had done a favor for Mr. James in the past and because of that, Mr. James had promised him that his son would marry the man's granddaughter in the future..." He paused and observed Miles's expressionless face before he continued."Since Mr. James didn't have a son, he had written in his will that his heir would fulfill the marriage," he explained to Miles."The marriage is just going to be valid for a year and if after you both find that you are not compatible, then you can file for a divorce then. You will still get the inheritance even after the divorce," Miles swallowed the lump that formed in his throat as he stared at Mr. Ace explained everything to him.No matter the angle which Miles tried to look at this from, he couldn't help but think that this was all crazy. He had just been cheated on by his beloved girlfriend whom he was mad over in the last few years and to him, he didn't want to ever have anything to do with any woman, at least for now, and now he had to get into an arranged marriage with some stranger? Does it even make any sense?"So, what do you say, Mr. Miles?" Miles thoughts were disrupted by Mr. Ace's voice and he looked at the man, confused on whether to accept the offer or decline it. His life had been rough over the years that he could barely feed and clothe himself if not for the delivery job he had been surviving on. This was supposed to be a life changer for him, but would he be able to do this?'Come back to me when you upgrade your life' Recalling those words his now ex-girlfriend said to him, he bit his bottom lip and sighed briefly."You said I can get a divorce after one year, right?" Miles leaned forward and asked him."Of course, you can, Mr. Miles, if you don't love her or if you don't find her compatible," He replied to Miles, and he sighed in relief. At least, he would be able to endure being with the stranger for just one year, and they would part ways then. If there was anything he was sure about, then it was falling in love with the strange lady he hadn't even met yet. It didn't matter to him how beautiful she would be, he was sure that he wasn't ever going to fall for her. Not after what a woman had done to him."I agree," Miles finally replied to Mr. Ace, and a small smile formed on the man's lips."Here are the marriage documents. You should sign them, and we'll be done with the marriage," Mr. Ace dropped a few papers on the desk and pushed it to Miles."I'm just going to sign the papers without even seeing the lady?" Miles was going to ask, but he quickly changed his mind, remembering that seeing the lady would never change anything as it had all been written and perfected."Attach your signature here," Mr. Ace pointed to a place where Miles was supposed to sign, and just like that, Miles took a pen and attached his signature to the spot."Great. So..." Mr. Ace paused as he packed up the papers and arranged them in front of him."During the marriage, you would have to hide your identity as a billionaire. We need to be sure whether the young lady will nicely as a poor man and not because you are wealthy," Miles's face dropped disappointedly."Why do I have to do that?" Miles intended to ask even though the reason had been stated to him, but he held himself back and just sighed."Do I really need to do that? I'm sure no woman will treat a broke man nicely, so don't you think that's going to be stressful?" Miles suggested because he wasn't cut up for this. He had just gotten out of a relationship that stressed life out of him and he wasn't ready to be treated like a piece of trash by another woman again. He wasn't born to be treated like a crap."Mr. James already took care of everything before his demise, so you have nothing to worry about. She will marry you," Even after Mr. Ace assured him, it was still hard to believe that a woman would be willing to be with a broke man like himself."So, what do you say?" Mr. Ace asked Miles as if he had a choice at that point."I agree," Miles replied to him hesitantly.Miles watched as Mr. Ace pulled out the drawer of his cabinet then brought out a bank card and dropped it on the desk. He pushed it to Miles."The card has a hundred billion dollars in it for your personal use..." Mr. Ace paused then reclined on the chair and smiled at Miles."This is only a small part of the company's assets, and more will be coming your way in the future. Use it however you want it, Mr. Miles," Mr. Ace further said, and Miles's jaw dropped shockingly.Slowly, Miles reached for the card and picked it up. He rubbed his fingers on it subconsciously, trying to observe if this was real or not, and when it turned out real, he felt his heart waver in excitement. He was wealthy now! He had just turned not a millionaire, but a fucking billionaire!"Thank you. I'll be on my way," Miles stood up and uttered."Thank you so much for accepting to be our boss here, Mr. Miles," Mr. Ace stood up too, and bowed to Miles.Excited, Miles sauntered toward the door and left Mr. Ace's office."It was nice having you around, Sir," Daisy, Mr. Ace's secretary quickly rose up and bowed to Miles as soon as he stepped into her office, but he only nodded slightly and proceeded toward the exit door, leaving the office immediately.Miles took the elevator to the first floor and two security guards welcomed him as soon as he stepped out of the elevator. The receptionist from earlier didn't fail to stand there along with the security guards."That's him. Take that piece of trash out of here this minute!" The young lady ordered the security angrily."I am the new boss here, young lady," Miles uttered with a bit of anger resounding in his voice, and the receptionist scoffed amusingly."Have you lost your mind? Whose boss? You must've lost it. You are not only a beggar but a moron too. Take him away!" The young lady snapped disrespectfully, but just before the security guards could act, the elevator rolled open and Mr. Ace stepped out along with Daisy."What is going on here?" Mr. Ace asked the receptionist."I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't mean to let this piece of trash into your office. He forced his way inside. I didn't mean to. I'm very sorry," the receptionist apologized to Mr. Ace whose face darkened with anger almost immediately."How dare you say that to our President!" Mr. Ace scolded the receptionist and her eyes narrowed in shock.Chapter 6"Wh...what!" The receptionist stuttered confusingly and blinked her eyes a few times to be sure she wasn't dreaming."You are fired!" Mr. Ace further said, and the receptionist gasped sharply."Wh... what... Sir, please you can't do that... Please I'm really sorry. I was just doing my job. I had no idea who he was... Please have mercy on me," the receptionist went on her knees and pleaded with Mr. Ace."I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, Sir. I will make sure to discipline them. I'm really sorry," Mr. Ace apologized to Miles."Thank you," And with that, Miles advanced toward the exit door and exited the company.A smile laced up his lips as soon as he stepped out of the company. He dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a few dollars he had on him before he got here earlier."I'm fucking rich!" He mumbled excitedly then hauled down a cab and hopped inside."Diamond bank," He said to the cabby, and the ride began...The cab pulled over in front of the tall buildin
Chapter 7 "How much is the money?" Miles asked for the second time."A hundred thousand dollars. Do you have that much money to pay for her?" The man mocked Miles again, but he opened his bag and took out a parcel of money from it."Here is your money," They were stunned when he threw the money at the man. "Let's go," The man left with the other men, leaving Miles and Ashley who was already on her feet."Thanks for that. You didn't have to do that," Ashley said as she dusted the invisible specks of dust on her body, but Miles just stared back at her wordlessly."You weren't expecting me to have left you here like that, right?" He rolled his eyes and sighed. "You should be careful not to get into trouble. Those are bad guys and they could harm you if no one had come to your rescue. You should be mindful of who you loan money from," Miles advised her."I'm not owing them money, Miles. I've already paid the money before. The boss of the group is a gangster and he had been disturbing me
Chapter 8"Are you jealous, Jess?" Ashley was pissed, so she stepped forward and smirked at Jess."Don't be so full of yourself. There is nothing to be jealous about," Jess rolled her eyes, but deep inside her, she was fuming. How could he have found someone so early just barely forty-eight hours that they broke up?"You should mind your business then," Ashley said to her, then turned to Miles."Miles, let's go sit over there," She pointed toward the set of tables and chairs just behind Leo, and he nodded. They both walked over to the chair and sat on it."Your order is here," The waiter walked up to them and placed the food they had ordered earlier, along with Miles's bottled water since it was the only thing he ordered. He didn't just feel like eating anything tonight. At least not now."It's pathetic how he can't even afford a plate of food," Leo mocked Miles."I'm glad you left him, Jess. I couldn't afford to be with such a pathetic broke loser," Jess's friend added, and Jess snick
Chapter 9"I'm afraid I would have to involve the manager in this," The waiter threatened Miles."Yes, you should," Miles agreed, and they all glanced at each other. After the waiter left, Ashley looked around and found Leo and other classmates staring at them, so she sighed. Maybe it was a bad idea coming out here in the first place.Barely ten minutes after the waiter left, the manager of the restaurant, a man in his late forties, came walking into the restaurant with two hefty men walking behind him. They seemed to be his bodyguard."There you are, Mr. Collins," Leo uttered proudly as he stood up and smiled at the manager as he extended his hand for a handshake."It has been a while, Leo. How have you been?" The manager greeted Leo politely like they've been friends for a long time now."I've been good. I was still going to come to see you when we were done here. Is there a problem? You don't usually come here," Leo asked even though he knew that the manager was there because of Mil
Chapter 10"Over here, please," The waiter called out to his colleague who didn't spend another second before he walked over to where they were seated."Take this to that young man over there," The waiter gave Miles's bill to his colleague as he pointed toward Miles who was seated calmly. The waiter handed the bill to his colleague, and he left to meet Miles. While everyone was waiting for Miles to panic as he went through the bill, they were shocked to see the calm expression on his face instead."Two hundred thousand?" Miles raised his gaze to the waiter and asked."I told you that he won't be able to pay. How is a delivery guy going to raise two hundred thousand dollars for just a one-time meal?" Jake laughed even though he had yet to sort his bill out."What is two hundred thousand dollars that he can't afford? He is really a pauper," Leo mocked him as he laughed loudly."I'm glad you dumped him, Jess. I wonder how you would've coped with this," Jess's friend rolled her eyes."Yes
Chapter 11A dead silence played in the atmosphere as they all turned their faces away like Jake did not just speak to them. How were they supposed to afford such an expensive meal when they could barely raise money for their tuition fee? It's crazy how they were all bullying Miles earlier when they weren't any better than him. At least, that was when he was still poor."I don't have anything on me. I'm broke," Jess's friend was the first to quickly speak up as she scratched the back of her head, and the murderous glare that Jake threw at her was enough to kill her if look could actually kill."Didn't you say you have a rich boyfriend?" Jake scoffed unbelievably."I was just trying to make myself feel good," She muttered. Her voice was so low that Jake could barely hear, but still, he scoffed.Furthermore, he turned to Jess who quickly turned her face away and bit her bottom lip."I'm sorry... I don't have anything on me. I was waiting for Leo to send me the money he promised me," She
Chapter 12Ashley glanced at Miles for the umpteenth time as he drove them down the road. Even though she desperately wanted to mind her business and not ask about the money, her curiosity wouldn't stop kicking in, and she knew she would be disturbed and curious for as long as she kept it to herself."Are you ok?" Miles glanced at her and asked when he saw how uncomfortable she was, and she finally seized the opportunity to ask her question."I'm just curious. Miles... Where did you get that kind of money from?" She asked him out of the blue moon, and he matched the brake, bringing the car to an abrupt halt at the side of the road where many vehicles were passing by. "Uhm... The money?" Miles bit his inner bottom lip, trying to think of something convincing enough because he couldn't just reveal his identity to her like that. It wouldn't make any sense, and she wouldn't even believe him because even he would find it difficult to believe if someone ever said something of such to him.
Chapter 13Miles breathed out in relief once he stepped out of the class. The lecture was finally over, and he could finally go back home since he had been looking forward to the time the class would be over.He walked briskly down the walkway and made his way straight to the parking lot, and when he arrived there, he hopped inside his car and the ride back home began. As Miles rode through the dark yet busy road, his new phone beeped and a text from Ashley popped on the screen. 'Why are you taking so long, Miles?' He read through the text after he pulled over at the side of the road. He replied to her and told her he was on his way back to the dormitory. After he dropped his phone on the seat beside him, he started the car and drove off.The ride back to the dorm took less than ten minutes, and when he arrived, he pulled over neatly at the spot where he usually parked his car. Furthermore, he proceeded toward the building.Miles arrived at the front of their apartment and pushed the
