CHAPTER 12

The Emerald Estate Hall, the biggest hall in Beryl City was decorated with sparkling lights with beautiful floral arrangements adorning the elegant edifice that was a hall.

Only guests with special invite cards were ever allowed entry into the hall for an event.

It was an event that had the elites in Beryl City fighting their way to score invites. Most of them were bounced at the gate despite their high standing in the community.

Getting an invite or access to the hall has always been a bragging rights privilege, as Government officials from neighboring cities looked forward to hosting their events there.

David, Eric, Claire, Melissa, and Jason came as the Graham family and were so excited to be in the hall for the first time after they had been trying to get in for years.

They didn't bring Sarah along because they deemed her unfit to be called a Graham and made jokes about what a failure she was.

"It is magnificent here. Take a look at the expensive art pieces that decorate the walls of the hall, one piece here can buy two units of our house."Eric exclaimed as he subtly admired the hall with his eyes roaming every crevice of the hall.

"We've been here for the last 15 minutes and no one has come to welcome us as the special guests of this event?" Melissa whined while rolling her eyes, getting irritated at the nonchalance of the waiters.

Claire raised her hands signaling a waiter to come over to them and the waiter walked over to them with an emptied-out tray in his right hand and his left hand was crossed behind him.

"We're the special guests of this event and none of the waiters have come to tend to us or even show us where we're to be seated. Are all the waiters this incompetent or are you just being stupid?" Claire spat with a venomous tone while looking directly at the waiter in a condescending manner.

"Sorry ma'am, who are you?" The waiter asked, trying to figure out who they were and if they were on the list of special guests.

Wham!!!

Instead of getting a response from Claire, she landed a nasty slap on his cheek drawing the attention of the other guests that were enjoying the party.

"You don't know who we are? The one and only Graham family that matters in the whole of Beryl city? The reason for this party? Where's your manager? I demand to speak to whoever is in charge of this party and you can be sure that you will lose your job by the time I'm done with you" Claire widened her eyes at him while poking him and looking at him condescendingly.

The waiter got on his knees and started pleading, "I'm so sorry ma'am. I promise this will never repeat itself. Please don't make me lose my job. I need this job for my tuition and to take care of my sick dad. Please ma'am. "

"To hell with you and your sick dad who I'm pretty sure wasted his life in his youth instead of making money". Claire said before kicking him with her red bottoms.

The event manager approached them to find out what was causing all the ruckus and as she got closer, she realized that it was Graham's family and she knew what she was supposed to do.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I didn't realize our special guests had arrived. I apologize on behalf of the waiter, he wasn't aware of the special guests list as he's to serve those downstairs." The event manager apologized.

The Grahams nodded their heads in acknowledgment and David threatened, "This better be the last time this happens. The next time this happens, I'll make sure that your event management company never hosts an event in the whole of Beryl City."

"Thank you for your understanding, sir. Please follow me." She led them up the stairs of the hall where the top 1% of the 1% had gathered.

"These are your seats. Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience. I'm going to send waiters that are to tend to whatever needs your family may have." She said before leaving after she had given them the front row seats at the balcony upstairs, where guests that were downstairs and those that were upstairs could see the Graham family clearly as they were the special guests.

"Wow! David Graham must've gotten the spot and that's why they're being given the special seats in the house."

"They're too arrogant. What did the poor waiter do to deserve such humiliation from them."

"I wish I was in their position right now. That would be a dream come true."

The guests made remarks about the Graham family in whispers, some in envy, some in hate, some with disgust.

Eric heard some of the comments that were being made. He ordered the waiter was on standby to fill the glass placed in front of them with the champagne that was on their table and the waiter complied without hesitation.

"Let's stand up to make a toast to this amazing achievement that David has secured for Graham" Eric stood up, drawing attention to himself and his family.

They stood up and together they said "cheers", whilst clinking their glasses with each other.

Eric did this to spite the guests and rub their new achievement in their faces indirectly telling them that they couldn't do anything, even if they wanted to.

Some minutes after they sat down, a group of bodyguards went up to meet them.

"Good evening, Mr and Mrs Graham. I've been informed that there was a mix-up in the guest list and this seat is not meant for you. It's meant for the special guests of the party. Kindly come with us. Your seats are downstairs." One of the well-built bodyguards said.

"You must be mistaken. This party was held especially for us as David is going to be awarded the spot for his restaurant." Melissa said matter-of-factly while taking a sip of champagne out of her glass.

"Yeah, she's right. Call the manager here to clarify this so you can go back to your door post duties." Jason raised his hands to dismiss them but they didn't move.

"Mr and Mrs Graham, you and your family are going to have to follow us or we may be forced to drag you down the stairs by ourselves."

"A lowly bodyguard speaking to the Grahams like this? I'm going to make sure I show you your place." Eric threatened and they sat in place like the guards were just mosquitoes disturbing their party.

Some of the guests brought their phones out to record the dramatic scene that was unfolding before their very eyes.

"Get out of here, you're causing a scene." Jason feigned confidence as he stood up to make the guards go away. Before Jason could finish his sentence, one of the bodyguards carried Jason over his shoulder and started moving down the stairs.

The Graham family were shocked.

"Hey, where are you taking him to?" Melissa cried out before going after the guard.

Claire went after Melissa and in the process, her wig fell off revealing her short hair that was irregular. She tried to get out of sight to hide her embarrassment.

The guests burst into a laughing frenzy at the scene that just unfolded.

Eric picked up her wig and went after her, then he threatened the guards, "When this misunderstanding has been cleared up, I'll make sure you lose your jobs and never get another gig again".

As Eric was being escorted from the seats down the stairs, he caught a glimpse of Ethan having his fair share of laughter at their expense.
