I arrived at my grandfather's mansion thirty minutes later and took a second glance at the mansion. For a lot of time now, I had been thinking that I had gotten a hang of everything, but with the display, I knew I had not even begun. There was something more that I was not considering.

"I have been waiting for you since we are almost a few minutes late but I have placed a call to them. The first rule of the game is to always be punctual." My grandfather advised me.

I nodded in agreement instantly. "And I need you to be as firm as possible. A lot of people might want to try your authority but you must ensure that they know who is boss." He continued making me nod again.

I wasn't sure that anything was going to change the way I would approach life on a normal day. I wasn't a wimp, so I didn't think I needed many speeches to get me to do the needful, but I understood where he was coming from.

"I understand your fear but I can assure you that everything is going to be fine. I hope that

"Your boy is brilliant. I have not met many young people who possess even a quarter of his attributes." One of the associates spoke. The meeting had gone more successful than I would have even anticipated. It was a learning curve for me which I appreciated. "So I would see you around later, right?" The man asked again. I nodded, ruminating on every business decision that had been taken in that conference room in the space of a minute. This was one of the most effective crash courses that I could ever have the chance to take because of its realness. Everyone brought their game to the table and I thought it was a perfect way to end the meeting. My grandfather kept on beaming proudly at the commendation and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of a family who would stick up for their own. "I should introduce you to some people who will be pivotal in your career. Do you mind stopping somewhere else before going home?" He inquired from me and I shrugged nonchalantly. I wasn't stupid e

"How can you tell me that you have not found him since last night? And who has been deleting the posts from the sites without our permission? I cannot believe that my father entrusted you to get revenge on my behalf and you are doing nothing. Do you expect me to pay you for a job not well done?!" Mikky yelled at the top of his voice over the phone. "Sir, I have done all I can just to ensure that no one breaches the codes but it has been unfulfilling. I believe that somebody powerful is working with Jordan hence the reason we cannot get through to him and also upload those videos." Drew, his father's right-hand man, spoke. Mikky's gaze turned icy. "I wouldn't accept those excuses from you because I know that you are up to something. He has probably tipped you off, right? That's why you have wasted so much time in doing just a very simple job all in the name of trying to be careful and some balderdash that you spin." He snapped angrily. Drew couldn't contain his anger, so he removed

"Hey, Jordan, wait up!" A small voice called as I walked up the porch. I turned and saw a young guy staring at me with a small smile on his face. Since I started living here, I have never encountered any neighbor who has tried to converse with me. He skipped towards my porch with a wider smile on his face. "I know you. Everyone has been talking about you lately, but no one seems to know where you reside." He made sure to remind me. I didn't appreciate his tone because it sounded a bit judgmental and problematic but I wasn't going to judge him for it. "Good to know that I have become popular, is there a problem?"He shook his head, however rocking on his feet, his eyes roaming about. "I just want you to see... I guess I was curious about a person who has been causing chaos and I am pretty shocked to see you here."I sighed; this didn't make any sense at all, no matter how much he might try to word it. I was tired of having to continue this conversation with someone who would pull my

Now, while that was not my agenda at the right time, I was curious to find out why they would think I would be remotely interested in such an arrangement. I had stayed long enough to realize that people often came up with various excuses just to get allies who would help them wreak havoc but I wasn't going to be part of those clique. "You want me to work hand in hand with you to bring down Mikky. Why would you even think that in the first place? Do you think I am one of those people who do not care about their reputations but will go ahead to destroy others? I hope you have heard that I do not frolic with people who aren't worth it. I stay in my lane which involves doing the right thing." I replied to him instantly. This could be a trap to get me to say something which I wouldn't on a normal day but I was waiting. He shot me a flustered smile, which I didn't pay attention to. "Mikky has stepped on a lot of toes but no one dared to bring him down. in case you do not know, his father

"Am I on the phone with Mr Braxton?" A gruff voice spoke over the phone causing the principal's heart to skip a bit. The familiar voice couldn't be missed, but he wanted to pretend not to know it. "I'm sorry, can I know who I'm speaking with?" The principal replied stylishly while putting the phone and speaker. He had been expecting the rebuttal but didn't know when it was going to come. "Do not mess with me, you know who is talking, Braxton." Mr Coker responded. He was in a bad mood, and throwing a pretender in the mix was only going to make his head spin angrily. "I believe that you already know why I am calling and that shows your level of dedication. Listen to me carefully, I don't care whatever you must have passed as the verdict but all I have to say to you is, I need that boy out of that school before my son resumes. You know what I can do in society, and I am sure that you wouldn't want to dare me. I have allowed your foolishness to go on for so long but now I am ready to c

There was nothing more to say besides the fact that the Coker enterprise was about to be damaged. No one had ever told him that stuff like this could arise, and he was trying his best not to be in such a situation where he would have to almost lose his resources. Talk about someone springing up something different immediately. He wasn't aware that there would be any form of interaction whether from the Langston consortium or whatever. "This can't be possible. How can someone who doesn't mean from anywhere suddenly just bring up weird rumors about me and people believe from begin to pull out of their agreements with me? I need to have a word with the CEO." Mr. Coker spoke. Mr Carlton shook his head, refusing to be plunged into that war. It would have been better if everything had been settled probably beforehand not now that he was just trying to get his act together. "Sir, I believe that we need to tread cautiously so that we do not upset some important people. I understand how you

It almost seemed like just because of what had happened, his father had suddenly become a lion to his beloved son. Gone were the days when his father would take it upon himself to do whatever he asked, but right now, he had to go tooth and nail just to make his father see reasons why he should answer his beloved son. The Genesis of all his problems was Jordan. If that stupid boy had not gotten him in that mess, he wouldn't have to bend over just to please his father and convince him to do his responsibility. His friends have refused to call and that pissed him even further. Scrolling through his contact list, he decided to call a cheaper friend who wouldn't mind any amount he was given as long as he was able to get some scraps to feed his ill mother. "I need you to do something for me. I have sent people to get Jordan for me but everyone has refused to be useful. I believe I can count on you right?" He said trying to guilt trip the young man into doing his bidding. Nothing was ever

I heard a knock on the door that evening just as I was coming out of the study and decided to answer it. Thinking that it was one of the kids in the neighborhood, I had already envisaged what I was going to say, but upon getting there, I was greeted with the shock of my entire life. Mikky stood outside with a weird smile on his face. "I thought that people were exaggerating when they told me that you resided here now. I mean, I felt like they were just trying to pull my legs, but right now, I can see that it's true. Aren't you going to welcome me into your house?" He said. I stared at him warily, knowing fully well that he wasn't here to exchange pleasantries with me but I wasn't going to give him the impression that I was scared. Instead, I kept on staring at him. "I didn't know you were going to be stopping by, hence my shock, but I do not allow visitors in, especially uninvited ones." Mikky stretched his neck behind me trying to catch a glimpse of the interior of the house. It p

"Master Jordan, I hope you can Grant us an interview. This is the best news that has ever graced our platform. We were the first carriers of the news and that has skyrocketed our magazine. A lot of people have been trooping in asking that we sell private information about you to them, which we have declined. I need you to just grant me an interview which I promise you is going to bring us revenue." Mr Sanders from the city press house said, all in a rush, expecting that I was going to be psyched up by his proposal. Did he think that his money was going to make any changes in my life besides that which I wanted? I stared at him for so long before deciding to speak. "It's a pity how most of you go about selling stories that are not true simply because you want to gather traction. I am not going to be a party to any of this nonsense you are willing to put out. If you cannot find stories on your own then count me the hell out." I responded I only picked up his call simply because I tho

"Dad, I need you to see this!" Mikky yelled throughout the house as he rushed to where his father was sitting. His hands trembled when he saw the news. Who would have ever imagined that this son of a gun would have such affiliations? Not only that, he also had more ranks than him. "I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it on the news but now it's beginning to sound true. Did you ever notice him in Langston consortium whenever you went visiting?" Mr. Coker was a bit stunned when he saw the news. How the hell did Jordan manage to sneak himself into such a large corporation pretending to be the long-lost heir? "It's probably a stunt, you realize that that boy has a lot of tactics up his sleeves and is only looking for a way to come back here and prove that he is something when he isn't?" He said, his voice also slightly trembling because he understood the gravity of what had happened. What if this boy was the one behind the disappearance of his shares in that company and he was only

Donning my suit and inspecting my full length in the mirror gave me the confidence boost that I needed. I was looking smart, and everyone around me attested to that, starting from my grandmother, who had hyped me up. "Do you think that this is going to fly?"She nodded. "They would be stupid enough not to allow you present simply because your grandfather is currently indisposed. I don't know if anyone is going to take that step but I'm sure that the minute they hear you speak, they will be convinced without measure." She responded, shooting me a warm smile. I had never wanted to get involved in this conversation unless there was something important, but according to what I was hearing, I guess I was doing a damn good job at my grandfather's company. "How have you been coping with my grandfather's sickness?" I said while putting my cufflinks in place. A sad look appeared in my grandmother's eyes but she quickly brushed it away. Chapter 98

Two Days Later, I sat in my grandfather's office and gazed around trying to figure out what exactly was wrong in this mix. I had everything under control, or so I thought, but there was something still weird about occupying a place where someone else had made his residence. Maybe it was because I had not been officially inaugurated into the office, so I always had this feeling that I was a temporary replacement and it made me want to work harder so that people could respect me. I gazed at my laptop screen, expecting to see an avalanche of messages, but was surprised to see it bare. Whoa, it was supposed to be a relaxation period for me but I suddenly had the nudge to do more. I wanted to impress whoever had the chance to come in contact with me. They didn't need to feel my grandfather's absence. I knew that filling into his shoes was going to be a huge problem for me to deal with but I guess I had to do it as soon as I could so that I get ahead of my mates who probably hadn't

I arrived at the hospital in a jiffy and was afraid when I saw Annie hooked up to various wires. I couldn't help but panic at the sight. "What happens to her? Is there any problem?" I inquired from the Doctor who was busy charting something. "I need you to calm down, Master Jordan. You were the only person that we could reach out to because of your contact on speed dial. I believe that you can contact her parents, right?" He inquired from me, making me shake my head. I had never visited her house. How was I supposed to know what her parents looked like or have an idea of their numbers? "You can always reach out to the school I believe that they have proper information about every student. She is my friend and..." I trailed off, realizing that this conversation was not necessary especially when we had an elephant and the room we needed to dissect before things went out of hand. "How is she feeling and do you think she's going to get better anytime soon? I can't stand to watch her un

My heart skipped a bit immediately. I was given the envelope containing a document that my grandfather wanted me to have. I knew that my my grandfather wasn't the most conventional man therefore inciting more fear inside of me.Just as I was about to flip the book open, a voice called behind me. "I suggest that you do not open it here, but till you get home so that you do not get overwhelmed. Can you do that?" He inquired from me and I was at a loss for words. I itched to tear the envelope open and see whatever was inside but decided not to according to the instructions. My grandfather could also be testing me and this was my chance to prove that I could be trustworthy. My mind reeled with various possible scenarios but nothing was as fixated as him dying. I didn't want to imagine him leaving just now. My head suddenly began to itch are the same time my hands did. It was a s

I headed straight down to the hospital to see my grandfather. I didn't like the fact that I was running the company in his stead yet he wasn't present to still give me a few guidelines. My grandmother was the only backbone I had at the moment which I didn't take for granted but would have loved his input Conducting secret meetings and also going to school in the morning was beginning to take a toll on my mental health, all I could imagine at that point was how I could be free from this. It might not be easy, but I knew that I was going to find a way to break through it. I spotted my grandmother's familiar hair from the glass mirror and paused. It seemed like she was having an intimate moment with him, and I didn't want to interrupt her just like that. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if she didn't take this chance. "Hey, I have been hoping that one of these days you were going to surprise me by opening your eyes. The doctor says that you can hear me if you really put your heart

Striding into the company the next day was not an easy feat, especially with everything that had happened in the past few weeks. I had been looking for the perfect time to express myself and now I had it but didn't know what to do with this opportunity. Cole looked at me for a minute, not having any words to say, but I waited for him to apologize. "I might be castigated but I can explain." He said hoping that I was coming to listen to his flimsy excuses. I watched him before laughing. "You are not sorry; you are only sorry you got caught, which I am happy about. Best believe me when I tell you that this has been happening for a long time without my grandfather's knowledge. How long have you planned to poach our clients to other firms? I hope now you realize that this cannot work with me in the picture." I responded. He didn't say a word and still didn't look apologetic despite his portrayal. "If I assure you that this is just a mistake. I don't want us to go back and forth over som

So much was running through his head and all he wanted to see was Jordan to air his opinion and tell that son of a gun to return to wherever he emanated from. That would give him the most satisfying present he has ever received. When he came out of the locker room in his new attire, he bumped into Annie again. She was the most beautiful lady in this school, and he wanted to make her his, but she was reluctant,t, and he hoped that she wasn't going to do anything other than accept his proposal. "Hello, Annie." He called softly trying to take the Jordan approach. Maybe if she realized that he wasn't as bad as they had tried to portray him, then she would be more appreciative of everything she was. "I believe that by now we should have gone past this stage of staring at each other like strangers when we know what we both want."Annie looked at him from head to toe in surprise wondering why he would just bring up from nowhere and trying to project something that s
