I skipped out of school immediately. I had the bell ring. This was the best time to escape before anyone could pull me back and possibly lead me into doing something that I wouldn't want to on a normal day.

I tapped my school bag and realized that my phone was missing. Shit! Whoever stole my phone must have done it during the test. And that was even worse. I couldn't start tracking down whoever committed the crime because everyone was already leaving.

I rushed down to the acting principal's office planning to catch up before anyone could leave the premises.

That should have been during the back and forth with Mr Harrison and Mikky, which was quite a bit annoying and at the same time exhilarating when I thought about it.

My grandfather must have left a ton of messages and would be worried that I wasn't responding especially after we had agreed to meet at a specific place.

I thought about the clients that I was about to meet and how this might impact my chances with them. I hated g

The figure had won a mask over his face telling everyone that he was aware of this movement and was only trying to dodge possible punishments. I was perplexed and, at the same time, worried that I could be in such a dilemma, especially after I had thought that everything was over. I kept on looking at him for a few minutes, it was unmistakably Mikky. When he performed the switch I couldn't fathom because we were standing together for a long while. "That is Mikky." I pointed out without wasting much time. Doing that was only going to reduce everything that I had in mind. One of the things I wanted to clarify was the fact that he was after my life and it was time to reveal it and cause a public disgrace. I hoped that the acting principal wasn't going to attempt perversion of justice."You can't be certain." He said with disbelief coating his voice. I smiled at his trust in a boy who had proven himself not to be worthy of any trust. "Do we stake some bets?" I asked him so that he unde

Mikky's face widened a bit as he tried to comprehend what was going on. "Mr. Mikky, what do you have to say concerning this incident?" One of the teachers yelled, probably unable to keep quiet anymore at his shenanigans.I wasn't weirded out at all by the way he was acting because it was normal for him to behave that way. I only believed that after some time, he would come to the realization that maybe not everyone wanted what he did, and that would give him more time to channel his desires properly. "My verdict is... Things you have not been able to prove a countering effect to this allegations, I would have no choice but to dictate that you be kept away from interactions, especially right now until this is resolved." The acting principal declared. I was happy that someone was doing right by an ordinary student and opposed to where anything they did or said went. It was almost becoming foolery to see people act in such a manner without feeling any atom of remorse. "I'm sure he must

Life was pretty good for me, especially with the fact that my opponent was no longer in my face. I didn't also care for his presence that much because it added nothing to my personality. I was only curious that he piped low for a while. I expected some form of retaliation but ended up with none. I knew that his father wasn't going to take this lightly, so it was probably the calm before the storm, and I was prepared for that. He couldn't just go scot-free without having a taste of his medicine. I sauntered into school the next day with a smile; everything was also going well for my grandfather, besides having a little hiccup with Mikky's father, who had tried to coach some workers from the company. We were a step ahead, though, and I felt a bit relaxed, so to speak. There were no rumors as I passed, and I smiled happily that everything was finally falling into place and this was the best time to focus on my career fair and square. The news about Mikky and I had mysteriously

A knock sounded on my door the next cutting my attention off from the book I was reading. I had no appointment with anyone besides the plumber who was supposed to come later in the day. It was only noon.I rose from my bed and walked to the door, peeping through the hole. The intruder backed the door making me frown. Who could be calling at this time of the day without an invitation? I called my grandfather immediately. If this was the chauffeur then he would have been bold enough to face me. "Are you expecting anyone, Grandma?" I called out so that I could ascertain his sincerity. "I didn't invite anyone besides a few of my friends from church who planned to stop by later in the day, probably by 3:00 p.m. Is there a problem?" She inquired from me. "Oh no, someone is at the door but I don't know this person. I would call Cole to confirm if he had sent anyone to me. This person does not look like he has a package in hand and I just hope it isn't one of the estate shenanigans because

"Is there anything you want to tell me Grandma?" I interrupted her conversation so that she was reminded that I was present. She snapped out of her staring competition. "This man is not welcome into our lives. He is dead to me. I would not take it likely if you go behind my back and discuss with that man." She said it right in his face. "Jean, I thought we had gone past that. I understand that you are hurt but can't we find a common ground? I understand how you must feel, and trust me, it is the same way over here, but I feel like we can still do something about it." Myron tried to bargain. I have never seen my grandmother so cross at anyone. "You have the guts to show up, especially after hearing that things have changed when my grandson has become wealthy, right?"Myron raised his hands as though trying to exonerate himself from her accusations. "I promise this is not what happened. I heard that you had relocated to this place and I couldn't help but come here to witness it by my

Getting my grandmother to admit what was wrong with her was almost like prying a skull open without the right instruments. Freaking hard for her to open up to me. I had a feeling that she was hiding something great that could impact my life either positively or negatively. My grandfather was not even helping matters because he was taking her sides without even hiding it. He would deflect whenever I brought up the issue and try to make me look like I was doing wrong by asking why she was that way. It became very annoying after a while because I started to look like a fool and needed answers which they were unwilling to give to me. I decided to make my findings myself if they refuse to do the needful. I just needed to be fast about it and make sure that they never heard or saw me doing it. I decided to visit Josh because that was my only outlet for leaving the house without my grandmother being nosy about my whereabouts. She trusted Josh and me because of how far we had come and didn

Boom, I should have known all along that there was a mistake somewhere, and I shouldn't have been in such a poor area. This was even poorer than where my grandmother and I lived, making me know that this was something greater than I had ever witnessed, and I decided to employ a few strategies. I remembered my grandfather, what would he have done if he was faced with the same scenario? Would he go out and cry to the world that he didn't get what he wanted or fight to the end and see what happens right after? I needed to make a quick decision, and it needed to be now. "A few men surround us, and we need to negotiate before things get out of hand. Do you know how much I have waited for you to return home?" He said. From the line of his conversation, I realized why my grandmother was hellbent on keeping me away from such a wicked fellow. It wasn't because she didn't want me to associate with people but because she wanted to keep me safe. "And you say you do not want my grandfather's m

Although the chase was crazy, I bustled down the road like I owned it. I never imagined having such kind of energy, but I guess adrenaline decided to take its place, and I didn't even fault it one bit. I was enjoying the chase. Sometimes, they didn't know what they were capable of doing except they were pushed to the wall, and they found out that they even had more strength than they gave themselves credit for. I knew that I was not the most perfect person but I could hold my own when it came to defending my Honor or my life. My phone rang countless times in my pocket, and I refused to pick it up because the moment I did, I was going to be confused and probably get into something that I should have ignored totally. I wanted to be free from everything that could hold me down and this was one of them. I ran as fast as I could so that no one would capture me. A car rushed in front of me, and I flagged it down immediately. I wasn't going to allow that pass me by before doing the needfu

The crowd swarms City Hall’s steps again. Always with their banners, their chants, their 'hope'. I lean against the stone column, arms crossed. The mic waits. I don’t. “You want a mayor?” My voice cuts through the noise. They freeze. “Pick one. Not me.” Signs drop. Faces crumple. A woman in front—frayed coat, eyes red—steps forward. “But you 'exposed' the rot. You 'know' who’s clean!” “I know 'nobody’s' clean.” I jab a finger at the courthouse. Its cracked dome glints in the sun. “You think I’m your savior? I’m the guy who lights matches. 'You' rebuild.” Murmurs rise. A man shouts, “We 'trust' you!” Others echo. Trust. A fragile word. Brittle. “Trust?” I laugh. Hollow. “Trust got Gregory Tran killed. Trust let Coker fester. 'Trust' is your problem.” I turn to leave. Hands grab my sleeve. Desperate. Clammy. “Please,” the woman begs. “Just… guide us.” I shake her off. “Guidance costs extra.” ''' They follow me home. Petitions piled on my doorstep. Candles lit like a

Jordan’s POVFirst, a ding, followed by a mild vibration.A smirk played on my lips as I dipped my hand excitedly into my pocket and brought out my phone. I had been expecting this message and it came at the perfect time.My eyes scanned the notification on the phone after which I unlocked it to view it better. It was from FriendsMe, a secret platform I and Josh created when we were just kids, whispering about taking over the world in hushed tones.Back then, FriendsMe had been a platform where we could dream big and fantasize about anything. It was our safe haven where we could plot our future and plot ideas without anyone watching us.But things had changed— I had changed.“I know it is you. Behind all of this. The accidents. The disappearances. The chaos. It’s you, isn’t it?” Josh asked.I let out a chuckle as I read the message again. Jordan's POVThe scent of fresh paint and polished wood filled the air as I stepped into the Langston Consortium’s main building. Truly it was fascinating how far we have come and I was so proud of myself.Months of silence had been replaced with ringing phones, busy days and nights, we had so many clients that we had to open a waiting list and that still got filled up.I walked through the hall, hands tucked into my pockets, watching the company my grandfather built come alive once more. It was mine now and I hoped he was proud of the slight changes I made. His death didn't go unpunished and I wouldn't let anything happen to this company no matter the cost.Near the entrance, an older man in a faded suit approached, his steps hesitant. His gaze held quiet hope. “Mr. Jordan, I’ve been with this company for thirty years. My loyalty has never wavered. I—”I lifted a hand, cutting him off gently. “The past stays in the past. It’s time for something new.” I uttered in a finite toneHis th

Jordan's POVThe courtroom was filled with tension. No one said a word but you could feel it in the air as we waited for the video to play.Mr. Coker sat stiffly at the defendant’s table, fingers locked together as though he wanted to strangle me.His lawyer whispered something, but he didn’t react. His jaw worked as if grinding gravel, his eyes shifting to the large screen where the next piece of evidence played. It was a briefcase exchanged proving Coker had bribed the inspector. The official took it with a quick glance over his shoulder, counted the cash, then nodded. Mr. Coker’s voice came through as he gave clear instructions. “This needs to be handled. No complications.”Gasps rippled through the courtroom.I leaned forward, hands gripping the armrest of my chair. My throat felt dry. Across from me, Mr. Coker’s wife pressed a hand to her mouth, face drained of color. The prosecutor stepped forward. His eyes flicked to the judge, then back to the screen. “For the record, this foo

The answer stuns the world!"Comments, opinions, speculations poured in. Some hailed me as brave, a warrior dragging hidden rot into the light. Others called me reckless, a kid playing with fire, a target painting himself in the brightest red.I sat in the dim glow of my phone screen, scrolling, skimming, watching my own words loop over and over. The sound of hurried footsteps pulled me from the trance. The door swung open. My mother stood there, her breath uneven,

He smelled like expensive cologne and fresh paper, like someone who knew his way around battles fought with words instead of fists.“You good Jordan” he muttered not out of care but hoped I wouldn't make the wrong move.“Never better” I reassured, giving a smile that would be stuck on my face for most of the interview.Soon the interviewer took her seat, a woman with clipped curls and eyes that held the hunger of someone searching for a story, she leaned forward. Her lips, painted the color of ripe cherries, parted as she spoke.“Nice to have you here today” she began giving a big smile for the camera before she returned to us."Mr Jordan, given the
