Fate is such a fickle, yet ridiculous concept. I feel like I've ruminated on the subject before, but it was always the circumstances that really make me try to push these thoughts out of my head. In a sense, was I fated to constantly talk about the concept of fate? Or was I merely projecting my views like a damn idiot again to merely justify my irrational stupidity? Or was it the roundabout way that fate worked which facilitated such a roundabout way of thinking in the first place? "We have a problem." Either way, fate has a hand in everything so I knew I should've expected this to happen sooner or later. My tendency to somehow be paranoid, yet be utterly complacent in the simplest of things had once again reared its ugly head. Perhaps I should start learning to make the most of my insanity, but wasn't that what I was already doing?
Oh my lord... This was gonna be a disaster... "Get ready." Turning the knob, angry steam ran through the pipes as the engine growled with the rage of industry. Immediately, I let my Essence move to suppress the burning energy threatening to escape the engine's confines. The vehicle wouldn't be to handle such a sudden acceleration, after all. Not to mention that Lace might not be able to handle controlling such a mechanical beast. "EEP!" Sure enough, Lace yelped at the lurching behemoth. The APC rumbled as its treads began to turn. Gears upon gears upon gears began grinding against one another, my own flawed design trying to push through its errors as it began to move. "Careful, Lace!" I yelled through the raging roar of the engine in my hand. "Steer
Visualize.... Imagine the way I have to make this work... "You have a way to cut this thing to pieces?" "Uhh... What?" I ignored Lace's confused tone as I leaned over the engine block. I can already see what had to be done, I just needed the right pieces to weld it all together with a few whacks. "I need you to cut that sheet of metal into specified sizes and shapes. Think you can do it right now?" The faint hum behind me clued me in on Lace's mixed feelings about the task, "I... suppose so? I have my hammer with me, but the edges won't be pretty. I also won't be able to guarantee that I'll be able to get your exact dimensions." I expected as much, "That's good enough. Cut it into four uniform squares if you can."
With the boring parts out of the way, it was time to reorient the engine itself. "Alright, ready!" Having already detached some of the gears and pipes, the engine was stone-cold as I placed my hands on its top portion. The others were also holding on to their own parts of the engine; with Livia beside me, Anne on the side, and the twins on the bottom. Weighing in at probably half a ton, a single mistake here would probably wreck the entire APC alongside possibly maiming or killing someone. With a heave, we all collectively pulled our own weight and then some. The engine slowly rose from its resting place, slowly turning towards our desired direction as we all sweated and huffed like we weren't remotely as fit as Olympic athletes. "S-steady now..." I huffed out. "Carefully..."
It was incredibly amusing to see just how far they've all come. To think that her gamble had paid would be an understatement if she ever told it to her past self. Love had expected such innovations and ideas from the person that they decided would be their leader. And yet despite the needless setbacks and almost disastrous events that almost made the former Prime regret her decisions, Lady Crimson had somehow managed to not only weather such setbacks, but also turn it all around and establish herself to be an even greater asset than what Love even thought of the Den to be.And that was factoring in her own bias about the young woman before all it even happened."Are we ready?" Love asked her beloved sister."Crimson says they'll need another day to make sure that everything's in proper working order," Lace clinically replied. "I'm pitching in as mu
Traveling... Oh, how I loved to travel. Well, assuming that I wasn't in charge of driving. And even then, it was simply a joy to just sit back, relax, and absorb the new sights and experiences. Soaking in on something new and novel will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. Whenever I skipped class, I'd just wander around the city walking around like a fucking tourist. If I was feeling extra wasteful, I'd board a bus and go to the next city over for shits and giggles. From there I'd either go arcade hopping or just find a bench in the nearby park and sit there thinking about how I was wasting my time and money being a stubborn idiot that's too afraid to even go to her own classes.Hehe... Heh.... Fuck, I just bummed myself out with that despite it already happening literally over two decades ago."So, we know our respective roles, yeah?"Our return
God help us...Taking my seat in front of the steering wheel, the wave of nostalgia that instantly washed over me felt far too sticky for me to shrug off. I haven't even driven for that long back in the old world. Having just gotten my driver's license before I croaked, my second-hand pickup truck probably didn't even manage to break five hundred kilometers in mileage. And yet, the feeling of having the power of an engine in my grasp still gave me a generous dose of adrenaline. There were no gas and brake pedals under my feet, unfortunately, but the feel of it all was something that I never thought I would feel a general sense of longing for.For fuck's sake... I feel like an old woman...My ears perked as the rest of my companions started filtering in. The various weights that they added to the vehicle made me shift a bit in my seat. A part of me
So far so good...The rugged feel of snow in the road transferred its crunchy texture straight onto the steering wheel as I cautiously guided us through the forest. With Lace giving me directions every so often, the travel away from our base had been smooth sailing so far. However, I just knew that problems would start popping up the longer we embarked on this journey. After all, despite everything that we've done to salvage the APC, it was, and will always be a prototype that almost shat itself from simply trying to run faster than forty kilometers per hour."How's the engine?!""It's fine, Sis!" Livia practically grumbled out amidst the roaring screams of the vehicle's mechanical heart. "Don't worry! I can handle this, just focus on driving!"I chuckled to myself as I turned my attention back on the road. I heard the
