After August and his wife left the villa, he led her into the car and drove off to their house. All along, Caroline didn’t say anything nor could she bring herself to be harsh to him anymore. He was no longer the cripple but someone strong who had just defended her from her family who wanted to take over everything she painstakingly built.

In thirty minutes, they arrived home. Once again August led her to her room and tucked her under the sheet. She hadn’t been getting enough sleep ever since and tomorrow she would be busier, it would be better if she got enough rest lest she get dark circles around her eyes.

“Take some rest wife we will go to your company tomorrow, and you will handle things,” August said as he wrapped the sheet around her and also kissed her forehead. He was about to go when she grabbed his hand. He twirled his head only to find her eyes that had emotion in them.

Furthermore, he knew she wanted to apologize and thanked him for defending her, but he didn’t think it was needed. After all, he was her husband. He had to be there to protect her at all times.

Meanwhile, Caroline tried to say something but nothing came out of her mouth. All she could mutter was nothing. Her mouth couldn’t form a sentence at all. August sighed and kissed her forehead.

“I understand. Now take some rest okay?” He smiled before pulling her hand off and keeping it gently in the bed.

“Your disappearance every day of each month for the past three years has something to do with your legs, right?” All of a sudden Caroline asked.

Else what other explanation could she come up with? It had to be the reason why her money was missing yet she thought he had been using it to take care of a mistress. Perhaps her judgment was harsh and she took it all out on him. This made guilt surge inside her chest.

Hearing this, August was forced to look at her. He didn’t expect she could be able to read into the situation perfectly. Well, now that she had gotten it, there was no need for him to deny it.

Smiling, he nodded his head. “Yes, wife. Now get to sleep.” He said before he walked out of the room so she could get some rest.

Besides, he wanted to meet David, his trusted friend and ally to tell him the good news. Also, he had a lot on his plate that needed to be sorted out so quickly that he took the car and left the house again.

The drive took about an hour. He drove to the outskirts of the city where he had always been coming to for the past three years to heal his legs. Already, he had sent David a message to meet him here so by now he was sure he should be here.

Quirky, August hopped out of the car and walked towards the wooden house. The place was less modernized. It had grasses around and of course, wouldn’t attract enemies.

Since he had yet to find those people who had attacked him after he left the war, he had to keep everything a secret for now.

He walked into the house and two people were already seated and were waiting for him. One was named Thomas, the physician who had always checked his leg for the past three years while the other was David his trusted friend.

“August? Wow, you are looking great. You can walk now? Ooh, my God! I guess our effort for the last three years had paid off.” David smiled as he watched him walk in.

Ever since they were in the military, they had been buddies. When August was attacked, he was on another mission else he wouldn’t have let that happen. Due to August's crippled legs, he was forced to retire from the military and leave behind the title of the captain of the dragon regiment. A man whom thousands of soldiers were under him yet due to circumstance he had left that all behind.

Sighing, August lifted his head to look up at him “Yeah, I’ve been able to walk. It’s shocking, but I have expected this outcome.” He said.

“Hmp, is that so? Does this mean we are going back to the military? Does this mean you will be taking back your position as the captain?” David asked with excitement in his eyes. The reason he left the military was because August left too but if he would go back, then of course he was going to oblige.

“No, I can’t go back to. I’ve retired already. I want to stay by my wife's side and protect her.” August replied without batting an eye. After all, it was something he had decided long ago. “Also, my cultivation level is just so weak. I’m back to the warrior level.” He added while tightening his fist, cursing at his weakness.

“Huh, what?  You have achieved the grandmaster level already, but now you are back to a low level? What the heck?” David sounded displeased as he grunted.

“I think it’s time. With time, your powers will come back. You just have to be mindful and cultivate Qi just like you have been doing before. I’m sure in a short period, you should be able to achieve the level you were before.” Thomas the doctor who was silent for a while said after giving the whole thing a thought.

When August heard this, he nodded. After all, he had expected this. But now the most disturbing thing was to get back his properties and also get the people who did that to him.

“David, have you gotten any information yet? I want everything I own back from those people. I can’t believe they took my asset after crippling me. They left me up in the street and if not for my wife, my life would have been miserable. I’ll make sure I spill their blood for what they have done!” August said gritting his teeth tightly.

He must have lost his powers, but he still had the aura of that fearsome god of war he had always been. Hearing this, David smiled before he replied.

“True, just give me some time. I’ll make sure I find and tell you about it.” David assured him with a smile.

August nodded. One thing David had been proficient in was digging our information. And of course, he was one of the people whom August trusted so he was sure he was going to do the task.

While they were stuck in their thoughts, Thomas the doctor was already done gathering his things. Now that August was healed up, there was no reason for him to stay any longer.

Smiling, he spoke, “I’ll be taking my leave now. Please keep in mind that whenever you need my help, you can call for me.”

“Thomas, I owe you one. I won’t forget what you’ve done for me.” August said with softened eyes. If not for Thomas, he might still be how he was before. For that, he would forever be grateful to him in this life.

“Sure. We have known each other for long. Don’t stand on ceremony please.” Thomas smiled.

August nodded with a smile taking account of what he said before looking at David. “Take him to the airport. I’ll be leaving too. I need to help my wife with some things.” He said and stood up.

“Sure.  Besides, I am less busy.” David said and soon after, they all walked out of the wooden house and left in different directions.

However, unknown to them a pair of eyes was watching them all through until they had left. Then the figure pulled out his phone and sent a text message.

“August Reed is alive and well. He can walk now.”
