“How could you let her jump around, you bastard!”

Their words were harsh.

Layla quickly lay down on the bed and went silent. She didn’t have the nerve to talk while her parents were angry.

While they both doted on her, they still would put on serious faces at times, which scared her. Maybe, it was because of their lawyer profession, she didn’t like it when they made such serious faces or yelled angrily at others.

However, Verna attacked Jake with a vicious slap.

Jake caught her hand easily and got up from his seat. “A child dances when she’s in joy. If she’s sick and unable to dance, will she be able to dance?”

“What nonsense are you talking about!” Donovan growled. “Why are you even sitting here? We’re going to take care of her, so get out of the room.”

“Hmph,” Jake snorted. “Just loving your daughter isn’t enough. If you had raised her right, she wouldn’t have come to this hospital in the first place.”

His words were like a slap to their faces. They didn’t want to just take the heat

Jake didn’t go back to Anne’s house.Instead, he went straight to Blake’s salon. He was late, so Carter gave him an earful.“Were you drinking from the money you earned yesterday?” Carter howled. “You’re not going to get paid for two hours of your work today. Go!”Jake didn’t mind it as he was at fault.Jake dealt with two rich clients, and they gave him tips over hundred dollars each, which covered his salary cut.“This job is quite good,” Jake laughed.“Of course, every job is good to those who have the skills,” Tessa entered the room.“Y-You are… Ma’am!” Jake immediately saluted her.“Huh?” Tessa was amused by his reaction. “Why are you saluting? You think we’re in the military?”“You’re the big boss, so I should pay my respects,” Jake said. “Please sit down.” He gestured to her to sit on the couch. However, Tessa sat on the customer’s chair instead.Jake looked puzzled.“Without cutting my hair, make me look prettier,” Tessa said. “You better not make more than five strands fall,

I feel like pulling your cheeks. Can I pull them?”Anne shyly shook her head.“If you let me pull your cheeks, I will pay for your haircut,” Jake said.Anne then nodded slightly.Just as he raised his hand to grab her cheek, Tessa entered the room with a broom in her hand. The workers outside were all wondering why Tessa was holding a broom.Tessa kicked the door behind her shut so that the owners wouldn’t be able to see what was happening inside.“Madam,” Jake was startled to see Tessa. “Why are you carrying a broom? Give it to me. I’ll clean the room for you!”“Shut up!” Tessa waved her hand, swinging the broom at Jake’s face. His eyes widened. His body instinctively reacted and ducked. He managed to dodge, but

A solid punch connected to Tessa’s face, and she was sent flying into the wall. Her left sleeve was torn up to her elbow, but it stopped now.“Tsk,” Jake looked a bit upset as this was his first time hitting a woman.Nevertheless, he expected his punch to have done some damage, but Tessa got back up, only after suffering a minor bruise to her cheek. And she looked a little pissed off. “Not bad,” she smirked. “That was a well-timed punch. You’re not a worthless piece of trash. You’re better than that. I’ll give you that. But… you won’t be able to land such a hit on me again.”She pumped her fists and was about to lunge at him, but then Carter forcefully opened the door.“M-Ma’am, what’s going on?” Carter asked quickly.Tessa stood straight and acted cool. “Nothing happened.”Even though she said that, Carter could see that half of Tessa’s sleeve was torn. His eyes widened for a second, but then he immediately threw a slap at Jake.Jake, however, dodged by moving his head backward.“You

Anne was going home in her car.She was thinking about Jake. “I hope he doesn’t get beaten by those rich people. I want to do something, but what can I do against billionaires? They live in a different league. Compared to them, I’m nothing.”Her family wasn’t poor. Her parents owned properties worth a few million, but compared to the Hamiltons and the Blakes, her family was a frog in a well, no, a mere tadpole in a puddle. As her car rounded a corner, she saw a familiar face.It was Shane who was sitting on the side of the road. She ignored him and kept driving, but after going some distance, she reversed the car back to him. “What are you doing here in the middle of the day? Did you quit your current job, too?”“Are you asking this so you can mock me and prove that you were right in dumping me?” Shane asked.“I’m not that cheap, Shane,” Anne snorted. “You are still as sharp-mouthed as ever. I do get that the world is a tough place, but you should change that negative attitude, or not

I was just thinking of coming to the salon to get a haircut from you,” Elmond said. “But I guess I can get it done here now. My nose hairs also grew, so I’ll depend on you to cut those, too.”Jake smiled with a shitty, embarrassed face. “I will do the service if you pay me appropriately, Grandpappa Almond.”Tessa was startled by how casually Jake was talking with Elmond who was one of the most influential men in the world.“Pay you? Didn’t you already take a highly valuable thing from the Hamilton family?” Elmond retorted.“Uh, yeah, I did,” Jake scratched his chin.“Step out. I’m not going to eat you,” Elmond pulled him out of the car.T

Delma didn’t come down the stairs. She just stood there and watched.“Things happened, and I lost my hair,” Jake told Tessa.“What do you mean you lost your hair?” Tessa queried. “Did you lose it because of some kind of an accident?”Jake nodded. “Yeah, you can say that.”“Oh…” Tessa could only wonder what kind of accident could make him lose his hair, especially when there wasn’t any injury or cut mark on his head. She couldn’t think of one good reason that would fit the bill.“Some things are better left unexplained,” Jake replied.Tessa didn’t probe further.“What did you study?” Davis asked her. He was so flummoxed by her beauty.“Graduated in business,” Tessa replied. “Top of the university.”“Oh,” Davis’ smile weakened.“What about you?” Tessa asked him back. I love sweets. Some days, I eat a lot of them.”“Don’t take it the wrong way, but you shouldn’t eat sweets if you want to get slim,” he said with effort.“It’s only one sweet,” Delma pitifully said. “And that also because of your recovery progress.”“O-Okay.”A few seconds of silence passed.“Can I ask you one thing?” Delma lo

If he talks with the Hamiltons, they will give our systems back!” Lily strongly believed.Trisha went to her room and took a few pills which accelerated her healing process.“The super strength or super power system or whatever it is… just what are its limits?
