Chapter 2: Ex husband.

Alarm bells were going off in my head.

Her body language was totally off and I didn't know what she was thinking now.

 I could read her so well before ,but now it felt as if I was talking to a different person.

"If I did something wrong, then tell me what I did ,so I can fix it." I replied in a desperate voice and she rolled her eyes and folded her arms.

"Jay ,this is not something you can just fix,I want us to break up with you, I can't be in this relationship with you anymore." Linda announced and just as the words left her mouth my cellphone I was holding in my hand dropped and fell to the floor and I had a crashing sound, as my heart dropped.

"What?" I asked in disbelief, confusion and shock as a lump formed in my throat and I swallowed hard, trying to get rid of it.

She has never told me anything was wrong ,so why now?

I was still waiting for her to reply, when I heard footsteps walking into the living room and I looked up.

A man walked into the living room from the direction of Ash and Chris's room.

Why was a strange man wearing a suit in my apartment?

When he saw me ,his eyes hardened and I was still confused.

"Is this the man?" He asked Linda ,as he approached her.

I snapped out of my thoughts, getting defensive.

"Who are you?" I managed to forget what Linda just told me for a moment.

There was an intruder in our home, I should get rid of him first before we continue our conversation.

"Yes." Linda replied, as the man ignored my questions.

Linda stood beside him, he wrapped his hand around her waist.

"Linda told me you have been taking care of them for all these while, I appreciate your help." He said, as he nodded in approval as he looked at me from head to toe ,but my eyes weren't on him, my eyes were on his hands wrapped out my woman's waist.

"What are you doing here? Who are you? Get your hand away from her!" I yelled at him ,as I tried approaching him but two other men wearing suits came from the same direction and glared at me and I stopped.

What's going on here?

"You shouldn't do anything silly, if you don't want my bodyguards harming you." The man warned me with a stern look.

"Linda what is going on here?" I asked Linda, because I could not understand why there were three intimidating men wearing suits in my living room. One of them is threatening me and the other two are glaring at me, as if they would attack any moment.

If I made a silly move.

"Just listen to him and stop asking me , it will be the best thing for you to do." Linda told me as she looked away.

I could not believe what I was hearing, but one thing was certain Linda knew who those men were. She was comfortably letting another man hold her waist, when she moved away from me sometimes ,when I did this.

"How much do you need to leave Linda alone?" The man asked me and I glared at him.

Has he gone insane or something, did he just say leave Linda alone?

Does he know how many years I have stayed with her and how much I have done for her?

Does he understand how much I have had to sacrifice just to be with her?

"I can't let her go, it is not possible, we have been together ten years, what nonsense are you saying?" I asked loudly.

"Linda, darling , please say something for goodness sake!" I yelled at Linda who just refused to meet my eyes and she had this smug look on her face, as if she didn't care about what was going on here.

"Baby he wants you to talk, tell him yourself." The man told Linda and my face twisted in disgust.

Linda finally turned to me with a frown.

"Jay, don't make this difficult, my ex husband wants us to get remarried, it's the best thing I can do for my sons sake, I know you helped me a lot, so take the money he will give you and forget us." Linda informed me with an angry expression.

 I could feel my shoulders drop and my breath quicken at the heavyweight of the words she just said casually, as if I should just accept it, when my life revolves around them.

Ex husband?

So this is David?

I knew his face looked familiar.

How could she so easily accept a man, who hurt her and abandoned her and her kids?

From what I have heard Linda's parents say about him.

David , Linda's ex husband, his family refused to accept Linda as their daughter in law, because her family went bankrupt after their marriage so he had no other choice but to divorce her, now he got his own money and he wants his wife back.

Is this what is happening now?

I looked him up once and I saw he opened his own law firm.

How ridiculous.

I was still trying to get over the shock of what I just heard, when I heard the happy voices of Linda's parents.

Linda's parents walked into the living room with smiling faces and their languages packed.

They are going with him, as if they haven't been insulting him everyday for leaving Linda.

How times change.

When Linda's parents saw me they froze for a second and looked away from me.

I know they were ashamed.

"Seriously both of you want to leave with him?" I asked them in disbelief, but I was met with silence.

I turned to Linda, because her parents or her ex-husband doesn't need to be loyal to me, but she does.

"Linda, wait ,are you telling me you are getting back together with your ex husband?" I asked her in a loud voice and she clicked her tongue in annoyance and glared at me.

"How can you do this to me, when we have been together for 10 years, I took care of your kids since they were little as if they were my own, I took in your parents as if they were my parents and took care of them, paid their bills and feed them, as if I was their sons, have you forgotten all these?" I asked at the brick of tears.

I could feel the tears clouding my eyes, making it difficult to see and I had to blink it away and recompose myself, so I won't break down crying.

"Jay, I know you are a good man, but he is the father of my children. That's why you need to take the money he will give you and move on with your life." Linda argued.

"Fine ,I will just give you a good amount, no need for an argument." David said in a nonchalant tone and I turned to glare at him.

"Keep your bloody money, just get your hands off my woman!" I yelled ,I tried attacking him, but his bodyguards rushed to my side and held me by my hand and pulled me back.

"Stop acting difficult and accept this, we can't be together, move on." Linda hissed at me.

  

"Ten years isn't ten days Linda, how can you tell me to move on ,when you are the only family I know now?" I asked.

"How could you do something like this to me ,when I never hurt you for one day?" I asked her in a shaky voice.

"I took your children as my own..." I cried out.

"Well that's your mistake not mine." She cut me off and I sucked in a breath and my eyes widened.

How can she say that to me?

"My children are not your sons ,you should remember that." Linda told me ,while staring me straight in the eyes and my eyes widened.

I looked over to Ash and he looked away. I have been in his life since he was five. If Linda had agreed to marry me then ,I wouldn't be facing this problem.

I felt my whole body go numb ,as my legs began to shake, I couldn't process the words being said to me, but I heard her talking,then something clicked in my head.

"Is he the reason you couldn't accept my engagement ring, did you cheat on me?" I asked Linda in a tired voice and she sighed.

"Just take the money and leave me alone, you are not in my league, just because I decided to date you, doesn't mean we are on the same level, you should have known that." She replied, as she left the living room and headed to our room.

"Linda! Linda! Wait coke back!" I called and tried going after her ,but the bodyguards holding onto my hands refused to let me go.

"Seriously talk about being annoying,can't you just let me mom go, she has said she doesn't want you anymore." Chris, her oldest son hissed at me.

I know he never liked me, but I took care of him since he was six and he is now sixteen. How can he say this to me?

"Chris , I treated you like my son." I said and he scoffed.

"He's our dad, you should learn to stay in your place , you are not our father,I did warn you about it." Chris glared at me.

"Ash..." I called and he looked away and refused to say anything.

I know that he can't help me in this situation.

Mr and Mrs Dash huffed.

"Look at this poor man thinking my daughter is meant for him." Mr Dash sneered.

"He must be a dreamer." Mrs Dash jeered and she and her husband burst out laughing.

David, Linda's ex husband, wrote me a cheque and dropped it on the center table in the living room.

"This should be enough to cover all the money you spent on them." He said ,as he told his guards to let me go and I lunged towards him and his eyes widened ,as I aimed a punch towards his face, but he held my clenched fist in his hand.

"Pathetic weakling." He scoffed ,as he gripped my hand and punched my face with his other hand. I used my free hand to block a punch aimed at the side of my head ,but he was stronger and my hand hurt after his punch landed on my hand.

His bodyguards rushed to grab my hands again and pushed me to the floor, holding my head to the floor and twisted my hands to my back.

"Let go of me! let go of me!" I yelled numerous times.

"Since you decide to be violent,I won't give you anything, I will use this as compensation for trying to attack me." David said ,as he took the check he just wrote and ripped it up.

Linda came out to the living room with her luggage.

He explained what happened and she didn't spare me a glance, even though I was calling her name.

"Did you get everything?" David asked Linda who nodded and dared smile, when I was pinned down on the floor.

"Yes, everything else is in the car." She replied with a big smile, ignoring my existence and pain.

"Then let's go." David said as he took that luggage from her and held onto her hand ,as he proceeded to guide her to the door and one by one they all left the apartment.

"Linda, I am sorry if I did something wrong, please don't go." I pleaded with tears streaming down my face,but she was gone.

It was after ten minutes had gone by that the bodyguards received a call and they let me go,I rushed to go outside and they were gone.

I broke down crying in front of our apartment building ,as his bodyguards got into their cars and left without saying a word to me.

All the years I had put in to raise her sons, I took her family in and this is what I get.

I don't know how I got back to the apartment, but I cried myself to sleep on the couch.

I rolled off and fell face first to the floor and my eyes fluttered open and I sighed and slowly sat up and rested my back on the couch.

I was feeling like crap.

I felt worthless and I just had this heavy feeling in my heart.

I sniffed ,as I took my phone which had been on the floor since yesterday and I called my boss's phone number.

There was no way I could go to work feeling this shitty.

He answered the call and I told my boss I was sick, even though my voice sounded weak, my boss refused to listen to me.

"Sir please can I just stay today off, I can't...." I tried to say as I ran my hand through my disheveled hair.

"Jay , I won't give you a day off, you know what, don't bother coming in for work today, you are fired." He told me and I paused for a second to process his words.

"Why?" I asked as I furrowed my brows in confusion, I know I haven't done anything to get me fired, so what happened.

My Boss didn't reply, he just began to laugh.
