Chapter 3: You messed with the wrong man.

My Boss stopped laughing.

"Jay, I know you as a calm man, but I don't know how you went and messed with the wrong man, you dug your own grave and I am sure you won't be able to get any good job except part times, because he will make sure of it, he has been making calls and is a good friend of mine, I can't dare to offend him." My Boss informed me.

I was sure that I haven't offended anyone recently unless.

"Is it David?" I asked in a low voice and he hummed.

"Bingo, what did you do to him?" He questioned me.

So David took my girlfriend and also wants to ruin me?

"He is out to get you and has used his connection to warn everyone not to give you a job, so I don't know how you would survive, but I think you should leave the country." He suggested.

"Sir, I have worked for you for more than ten years, you can't just let me go like that." I said in frustration as I pulled my hair and he chuckled.

"Well watch me, I can't be enemies with David and don't try suing me or I will frame you for something you won't possibly think of." He warned me and ended the call.

I tried calling again and he blocked my number.

I tried calling my colleagues and some lawyers working in the law firm, but they all blocked my phone number.

Who would want to help a lowly receptionist.

I just dropped the phone to the floor and took deep breaths to calm myself down, before I went insane.

How long does one's life take to be ruined? Mine took a day.

Just 24 hours.

I didn't even have any money to sue anyone to court, I lived by my paychecks and used the rest on Linda and her family.

I stayed in that position sitting on the floor till I got hungry and I couldn't ignore it.

I stood up from the floor and sluggishly walked to the kitchen and drank a glass of water.

I couldn't cook and eat so I went to the grocery store to get something to eat, because there was nothing in the fridge.

I saw all the food and snacks opened and tossed in the trash bag.

Only Chris would do something this spiteful.

Goodness I know I looked a mess, but after buying everything I needed.

I just felt like going home immediately,so I just decided to take a walk to clear my head.

After wandering aimlessly down the street I just wondered why Linda had to do something so cruel to me.

I don't know how long I was outside. I sat on a bench to eat snacks . When I got to my apartment building at 09:43 Pm, I decided to go and buy Beer from a convenience store nearby.

I just wanted something to get me to sleep, and I just didn't want to stay in that apartment because everything reminded me of Linda.

 I can't live there anymore and I can't rent a hotel room to stay in ,because I was short on cash and now that I lost my job I needed to be mindful of my spending.

I bought 2 cans of beer from the convenience store ,before leaving.

I don't drink, so there was none in my apartment.

 I was walking sluggishly back to my apartment. My neighborhood wasn't that friendly, especially at night ,so I tried walking as fast as I could ,but I was drained of energy.

I didn't have any strength to walk faster than this , because I haven't had a decent meal to eat today.

Someone suddenly stopped in front of me, hands in pocket, not just someone but a masked man.

I stopped in my steps and took three steps backwards.

Oh my luck!

I sighed and turned back to use another route to go home , but another person was standing behind me, hands in pockets as well.

"I am not with any money." I said as I waved my hand frantically.

Last thing I needed was to get robbed,when I wasn't even with money.

"Let me show you my wallet." I said, as I dipped my hand into my pocket to bring out my wallet ,as they both approached me from front and back.

I took my wallet and took out a couple notes to the one behind them as I showed them the empty wallet.

Last thing I want is to get shot just because of money I didn't have.

"This is all I have." I said as I stretched my hand for him to take it but he didn't make a move to take the money, I even tried giving it to the person in front of me but he did nothing.

What the heck!

I knew that something was wrong,if they didn't want money then what do they want?

I didn't know what they wanted from me ,but I tried to run and the one behind me grabbed me from the back and wrapped his hand around my waist.

"Let go! let go!h…" The air was knocked out of my stomach when the guy in front punched me.

"Talk and I will slit that throat of yours." He told me and flashed the dagger he was with at me.

Why won't I see anyone walking on the streets when I need help?

They dragged me into an alley near my apartment building.It was dimly lit,where someone else was waiting.

"Look who finally decides to join us." I heard and I instantly knew it was David, Linda's boyfriend ,he smirked upon seeing me.

"The barking dog finally made an appearance!" He spat ,as his men pushed me to the floor.

"David, haven't you taken Linda away from me, what did I do to you now?" I asked in frustration.

He managed to ruin my whole life in just a day, what more does he want?

"Because of you Linda would now see me as a weak man,do you think get away with sleeping with my woman!'' David spat as he approached me,now that I actually noticed he was with a baseball bat.

Wait, is that all he was bothered about?

Is he stupid?

He must have been with another woman before coming back for her.

"I did nothing wrong, Linda screwed me over ,she played me, she should be the one you are angry with not me, don't get me involved in your mess anymore." I said as I stood up, holding onto my stomach.

Why was that punch hurting more than it should,are these men David's professional bodyguards?

"Of course you did something wrong, nothing Linda does is wrong ,she must have her reasons." He spat as he approached me.

"David, please calm down, let's talk this out, I was wronged by Linda and you, just leave me alone, someone might see us here." I said as I backed away from him.

"No one would ses us and no one would know what happened here, will you tell them about it in your grave?" He asked as he swinged the baseball bat at me and I dodged but his guards held onto me.

"Help.." David hit the baseball bat on my stomach.

One of his bodyguards stuffed a handkerchief in my mouth as they held me, as I struggled but David continuously hit the baseball bat on my stomach and chest even though tears had started flowing down my eyes now the hits didn't stop.

This was what I got for falling in love and giving my all in a relationship.

  I could feel the breath being knocked out of my lungs,I was finding it hard to breathe, I could taste my blood in my mouth and my eyes felt heavy.

David's bodyguards let me go and having lost the strength in my leg, I fell with the thud to do the floor.

My eyes could barely stay open and I thought it was the end ,but I felt someone stumping a boot on my head continuously.

"You should never go near Linda again….you should just rot here." I heard Luke say faintly.

Those were the last words I heard.

As I succumbed to darkness.

   When my eyes fluttered open again, I jolted upright panting heavily and I was surprised that I was laying on a soft bed.

   I stretched my body a little.

 I was hurting, was it from the beating?

I looked around and I knew this wasn't a familiar environment, so I slowly sat up.

My body aches and I looked down to my clothes and saw no blood, but my clothes looked weird,this wasn't a normal

This wasn't what I was wearing earlier.

Was the encounter with David and his bodyguards a dream?

Have I finally gone insane?

The door suddenly slid open and a woman dressed in a nurse's outfit walked in.

"You are finally awake sir." The nurse smiled.

"Where am I?" I asked.

"You are at the hospital." She replied.

"Who brought me here?" I inquired curiously

"Some saw you laying on the ground on the dark alley, passed out and called the police, luckily you didn't sustain any injury." She informed me.

"What?" I asked in disbelief.

I knew that my injuries were enough to kill me, I thought I was dead.

"You weren't injured when you were found just dehydrated,apart from that you are alright." The nurse informed me.

Was David and his bodyguards beating me a dream?

"I see, please let me be alone for a while." I said and she left after checking my vitals.

I know I must have died but what happened.

I heard as a blue screen appeared in front of me.

"What is this?" I asked in confusion..

"I am a system, I give you tasks to do and when you accomplish the tasks, I send money to your account." Amber the system replied.

"Um...okay." I replied not understanding a word she was saying.

"What's my first Task?" I asked.
