• A New Romance

Valerie noticed her sister running off. She hung around and pretended to be interested in all the activities Stacey had planned but when the time was right and everybody was preoccupied, she slipped away.

It was a sandy beach and the breeze was strong. She could almost taste the salt from the sea. Her light tropical dress billowed against her body as she moved in the direction she saw her sister last.

Her cupped palms protected her eyes from the harsh sunlight. At some point she had to stop and turn her head around. There was no sign of Renée anywhere.

She exhaled and then placed her arms on her waist. “Where the hell could you have gone?” She muttered to herself.

The dryness in her throat suddenly intensified and then she remembered that she had not had anything to drink for a while. She trudged towards one of the wooden shops and bought a coconut drink.

With the coconut in her hand, she continued her search for her sister and she was drinking from the straw.
