Valerie was seated on her bed staring at her phone. There was no call from Ethan which meant that he was not returning today.

The door opened and Elizabeth walked in, and gently sat down beside her. “Why do you look so worried?”

“It's nothing more, I know I'm just overthinking but I can't help but worry. Military missions are usually very dangerous, you know.”

She smiled, “can I tell you something?”

Valerie nodded slowly. “All those years ago when Desmond made sure that Ethan was sent to the military, you know what kept me going? Hope. Then I was worried sick because my son knew nothing about the military and I was worried if he would be able to survive it. Years later he returned as the legion commander.”

A small smile formed on Valerie’s face. “Ethan is tough, don't worry too much about him. He'll be fine.”

“Thank you.” She pulled Elizabeth into a hug.

Noticing all the bags in the corner, the older woman spoke. “Let me help you get these downstairs.”
