Renée’s eyes flashed open, the blurry surrounding slowly sharpening into a vivid image. She was lying on a hospital bed in a pristine white room.

She stirred out of sleep and back into consciousness. The dull ache in her head was constant but manageable.

Turning her head around to survey the room, she asked. “Where am I?”

Therese stopped forward. “You're in the hospital darling, Jason brought you here after you passed out.”

“What the hell were you even doing in that hotel?” Clifford asked.

“Clifford! Now is not the time, can't you see she's just waking up?” Therese shot back, silencing her husband.

She stroked her daughter's hair gently. “Darling, how are you feeling?”

Renée shifted on the bed, taking a more upright position. “Just a little weak, nothing much.”

The door clicked open and the doctor walked holding some files.
