Kyle heard the sound of ruffling feathers behind him. His heart skipped a beat as he leapt back on his feet and turned towards the noise, only to see an angel floating just above ground before him.
This angel almost seemed normal. It had the face of a man, a single pair of wings, and a book in his hands. His left eye was closed though, and he was staring at Kyle with his right eye, without blinking once.
Kyle gulped as his heart raced. Now what?
“A lost lamb, found its place to this place.” A mix of voices rose from the angel’s mouth. A woman’s voice, accompanied by a man’s and… Kyle didn’t even try to make sense of it. It was ear grating. “How interesting.” The angel added as it reached for Kyle with its empty hand.
Kyle quickly stepped back. He was not going to let such a… weird thing touch him.
“Do not escape from me, child. This is no place for human souls. You must return to your eternal rest now.” The angel insisted.
“No, thanks.
As soon as the white light emanating from the angel touched his skin, he felt his strength rapidly drain away. Suddenly, just standing on his feet was a challenge. He grabbed onto the amber, right where he had scratched before with his spell. The smooth surface of the chunk of amber confused him for a moment. Had it fixed itself? Already?!“Now, let us see just how it is that a human soul has carried over his magic into the Celestial Plane.” The Angel muttered almost absentmindedly. Kyle gritted his teeth and pointed at the ground. “Sunburst!” he hissed as the angel approached him.A single spark of light appeared on the ground, where he was pointing, then, bright golden light pulsed outwards, spreading through the room. As soon as it touched the angel, it beat its wings and flew up.“Golden light – how disgusting and impure.” The angel said as it raised its hand. A bright light appeared in its palm, radiating wit
The Cathedral was silent except for the gentle wind that ruffled the Fallen Angel’s feathers. The Fallen Angel stood there, one hand resting on the amber that had trapped Kyle in place. His faze lingered on the young man.Kyle gulped. He felt like his worth was being calculated. Was he worth freeing, or was he useless to the Fallen Angel? Normally, this would get on the young man’s nerves. Now though, his mind was filled with fear – with the fear of being trapped here forever. He felt like he would do anything to get out of here. Anything.“Tell me something, human.” The Fallen Angel leaned down, until his eyes were at the same level as Kyle’s. “What stops me from leaving you here right now?”Kyle’s eyes widened. “After I went into so much trouble to get you out of this?!” He punched the amber with his free hand. “The least you could do is get me out of here!” Why the hell were
The wind blew in his hair and ruffled the Fallen Angel’s feathers as they flew through the skies. Well, Azazel was doing the flying. He carried Kyle like he had no weight. The young man could do nothing but look around wide eyed. “I find it surprising,” The Fallen Angel’s voice sounded. “How did you even find me in this Plane?” He gestured towards the wide, chaotic environment. “Any mortal would get lost here.” “I had the dreamer’s guidance.” Kyle muttered. “It was still difficult to find you, I came across some really… weird beings.” The Fallen Angel had flown through the city, and then below it, so they hadn’t come across the gigantic beings that had watched Kyle through the last part of his trip. “What beings?” The Fallen Angel asked as they began their descent. “An eye with six wings, for example.” Kyle sheepishly replied. Was he being rude? He didn’t know what would set the Fallen Angel off. He wanted to stay on his good side until they were out
Once again, during their flight, Kyle couldn’t help but be both amazed and terrified of this realm. He could see the gigantic higher beings floating in the air in the distance, and he also noticed Azazel careful steering clear of them.“Do not look of them for too long.” The Fallen Angel warned him. “Your mind… it may not be able to handle it.”Kyle shot the Fallen Angel a quick glance. “Really?” He muttered. “Ok…” he wanted to ask why, but he had long since decided to try and keep any communication to a minimum, so the Fallen Angel would get any angrier.“They are beyond mortals. Even normal angels fear them.”“You don’t?” Kyle asked.Azazel chuckled. “No, I don’t fear them. There are very few things I fear.” He almost absentmindedly said as they began their descent. As the four wings on his back beat rhythmically, Kyle noticed his h
Kyle ducked as the Fallen Angel’s arm slashed the air above his head, sending a shockwave forth. The wave of bright power shattered the first mirrors it hit, once again revealing the other Angel. From the few moments he saw her, Kyle concluded a few things. It was shaped like a woman, had a mirror in her hand, and had three eyes instead of the usual two a normal woman would have. Also, she was angry. She once again vanished as the air filled with more shattered mirror pieces.“You can’t hide from me!” Azazel called her out as he raised his arm again.“Perhaps not – but you can’t move on without the mortal.” The voice came from the mirror right next to Kyle. Something grasped his hair, and pulled him back, into the mirror. For a split second, his vision darkened, he clawed at the hand on his hair, and kicked the being dragging him away. The Angel grunted, and he felt her grasp on his hair loosen, then,
There was a wide hallway at the top of the stairs. There were no doors, no other hallways on either side of it. The only way to go was forward, through a large, partially open door.Azazel led Kyle through the hallway, towards the door. As they walked through the doorway, Kyle looked around in amazement. For the first time since he had found Azazel, he saw colour. Not much, but enough make his eyes be grateful. There was a pedestal at the very centre of the large, circular room. While the pedestal itself was white, just like almost everything else, the book was not. The leatherbound book had a soft, brown coloured binding, and it’s pages were a soft yellow. It looked like quite an old book.On the ground around the pedestal, there were inscriptions etched into the ground, filled with what Kyle assumed was gold. The inscriptions formed a complex pentagram, one Kyle didn’t even attempt to read as it was way beyond his understanding.&ldqu
The Fallen Angel’s wings carried them away from the Higher Being’s gaze and reach with surprising speed. Kyle tightly hugged the book they had risked themselves for, still wondering if he had done the right thing by taking it from the pedestal.“There it is,” The Fallen Angel’s almost cheerful voice reached his ears. He looked at where Azazel’s finger was pointing. “Our way out.” The Fallen Angel explained, seeing Kyle’s confused expression. It was a ripple in the air, nothing more. Kyle braced himself as Azazel flew towards it without even a hint of slowing down. He felt dizzy for a moment as they passed through it, then darkness came over him.“Get out, dreamer.” A sharp, authoritative voice resonated with power. It reached Kyle’s ears as he slowly rose from his slumber. He heard a woman try and argue with the owner of that voice, but he was quick to shut her down.&ld
Kyle pouted and scratched the dark amber tattoo on his arm. The relaxing waters of the hot springs hadn’t helped him relax at all. In fact, he felt quite jumpy right now. What if the damned Fallen Angel decided to appear out of nowhere?Feeling too uneasy, he climbed out of the hot springs, and went into the cabin to get dressed. Even then, he was constantly looking at every noise he heard.Once he was dressed, he sighed and headed back into the cathedral. His hand never once left the tattooed area. No matter what he tried, he hadn’t been able to get it off. No amount of washing or scrubbing had helped. Irena had tried to burn it off, and the elven leader had tried to use several magic nullifying spells. Yet, the dark amber remained, and all that came from those efforts were burn marks on his skin that another elf had to spend time healing.Kyle continued to pout as he headed to Cacophus’ study. The Lich had nearly lost it when he learne
