“A lucky fool, he said, huh?” Vis asked with a smile as they stood by the pond. “I’m not quite so sure if I’d call you that.”
Kyle let out a sigh. “Why are you still here anyways?” He asked, annoyed. He had hoped Vis would also leave along with the others, but the ancient vampire seemed to like this place a tad bit too much.
“A prime viewing of a battle was promised to me,” She said with an innocent smile. “I wouldn’t dare miss it.” She pointed at the still surface of the pond. “They’ll reach the camp soon.”
Kyle gulped. She wasn’t wrong. Droigheann had promised Kyle would be able to watch the battle, and he had cast a spell on this pond. A spell to let one of Cacophus’ skeletal birds to act as Kyle’s eyes.
As the sun began to set, the surface of the pond rippled. A few moments passed before an image slowly formed on the water&rs
The water of the pond was icy cold, and it was still filled with Droigheann’s mana. The dark strands of demonic magic enveloped him as soon as he fell into the water. His body grew numb for a short moment, and his vision blurred and darkened. He looked around in a panic as he tried to tell up from down. Which way was he supposed to swim?!He breathed out a few bubbles full of air. They moved towards his left hand! He quickly followed them, and soon reached the surface. As soon as his head broke the surface of the water, a shout reached his ears.“No, no don’t!” A man’s scream echoed, followed by a snap, and a crack.‘Player Killed’ Kyle’s gaze snapped to the source of the screams, only to see Vis standing next to the now dead body of a player as it disintegrated.“Filthy bastards.” Vis hissed. She let go of her oddly red whip, and it immediately liquified, and flow
Kyle locked his door, then walked around his room, checking every nook and cranny. As he looked under the bed and found nothing but a paid of boots he had kicked down there, he breathed a sigh of relief. The young man finally let himself relax. He changed into comfortable pyjamas, then crawled into the bed. He then held his breath for a good five seconds, and only when he made sure there was no one but him in the room did he breathe a sigh of relief and pulled the blanket to his chin.Droigheann had to practically drag Vis out of Kyle’s room. Irena had then taken her to a room she could call her own. Kyle was still hoping that she’s grow bored of this place and go back to her home. Maybe she would be gone when he woke up.With little hope in his heart, he closed his eyes, and let his consciousness drift away.Come morning, the chirping birds woke him up. After his usual morning routine of breakfast and getting dressed, Kyle heade
Luke narrowed his eyes a little. He glared at Kyle for a few seconds, then turned his gaze to Igna. “Igna, why don’t you check out the potions I mentioned to you?”Igna’s eyes shot wide open. “Oh, yeah!” She exclaimed. “Kyle! Do you mind if I check them out myself?”Kyle shook his head. “Not at all, they’re in the tower.” He pointed at the tower next to the courtyard. “Check the box next to the door.”“Alright, I’ll be right back then!” Igna’s voice was filled with excitement. She hurried inside without waiting for a response. Once the wooden door closed behind her, Luke scowled. He folded his arms and glared at Kyle again.“Why don’t you try explaining that hair of yours again?” He suggested. “Tell the truth this time, though.” He added.Kyle flinched. Was his lie so obvious? “Is it that unbelievable?” He
The Paladin glared at Kyle. “Well?”The young summoner let out a tired sigh. “Do I really need to explain why I haven’t slept well?” he asked, rolling his eyes. “It’s just bad dreams, nothing more.”It was the next day, and Luke had dropped by again to take some of the healing potions to the auction.“Yes, you do need to explain.” Luke said with a serious tone. “Now explain. Caille says dreams are nothing to be ignored.”Kyle let out a sigh. “You seriously do worry too much.” He whined.“So what? Explain.” The Paladin simply wouldn’t budge.Kyle shook his head. “It’s just a dream about the damn angel.” He threw his hands in the air, then explained the dream he’d seen briefly. “This isn’t something to worry about, it’s Rhealis’ dreams that I worry about.”Luke scowled. “I don&
“Shards of Light!” Kyle’s voice rose as their enemy moved slowly. Five shards of crystallised light formed at the tip of his fingers, then darted towards the large creature. The shards easily hit the rock body of the elemental, not even causing it to flinch. It didn’t even seem to be aware of Kyle’s attack – it just creeped closer, slowly, but persistently.Kyle bit his lips. The shards exploded not a moment after hitting the creature. This time, it paused as pieces of rock rolled off of its body.“It will take you ages to kill this thing.” Droigheann commented. The Demon of the Nightbloom sat upon a large rock, watching Kyle’s struggle with an amused look on his face. His lips were curled up somewhat, and his eyes glimmered with the fun he was having.“Come and do it yourself then.” Kyle snapped. “I’m a mage – I can’t just go and smash the damn thing t
Kyle ran up the steep hill, towards the Demon of the Nightbloom. Droigheann was seated on a large rock. He watched Kyle with an amused expression as the young summoner reached the rock, exhausted and out of breath.“Good job.” The Demon’s lips curled up with amusement. “Though you’re certainly exhausted.”Kyle nodded as he tried to calm his racing heart. He leaned against the rock for support as he panted.“Drink some water.” The Demon suggested. “Then rest for half an hour. After that, you’ll fight a few more rock elementals.” He pointed northwards, where two rock elementals were ever so slowly creeping closer.Kyle ignored the elementals and grabbed a bottle of water from his inventory. Drinking the icy cold water washed away some of his exhaustion. He forced himself to take deep breaths afterwards. His chest still hurt, and his lungs felt like someone had lit a fire within.
“I’m going to check the surroundings.” Droigheann declared as he stood up. “Don’t wander away.”Kyle laughed. “Like I’ve got the strength left to do that.”Droigheann left, and Kyle lay on the ground, ready to sleep. He had lost count of how many elementals he had killed today. At first, he felt a little bad for coming here to kill them, but then Droigheann had explained how elemental creature were formed. They were beings created to be servants to powerful mages. But they had no real consciousness, they couldn’t understand spoken words, nor could they be communicated with in any other way. Telepathy apparently didn’t work, nor did any type of sign language that some mages had tried. They did usually have instinctive behaviours, though the miasma that infected them had clearly destroyed whatever was left of that as well. They needed to find the source of the miasma and destroy it if
Staring at the crack in the cliff wall, Kyle couldn’t help but shudder. There was nothing that didn’t scream ‘cave with monster’ about it. First of all, the grass in front of the entrance had a yellowish hue to it, it looked sickly, and it was clearly half dead already. Then, there was the stench coming out of the crack. It was so strong and awful that even from so far away, Kyle could smell it. He covered his nose and mouth, then took a couple of steps back.“Definitely inhabited by a demon.” Droigheann spoke up. He had a distasteful expression, his lips were curled down, his eyes narrowed. “A nasty one at that.” He added as he stepped towards the crack. “Come on, let’s head inside. There is no point in wasting time.”Kyle gulped, then took off his scarf and wrapped it around his mouth and nose before following Droigheann. He wanted to breathe in as little of the miasma as possible.
