Chapter 12 : The power within

On getting to the dorms after parting ways with Angelo, Brandon sat on his bed with his legs crossed and began to meditate, he wanted to contact the glowing orb, he needed to know more about who he was,

He began to feel the flow of his spiritual energy once again, as he took control of the flow he found himself In a familiar yet unfamiliar empty space,

"I was beginning to wonder when you would show up" a voice said behind him,

He turned to see the glowing orb behind him, it had now taken the form of a little bird,

"You have changed" Brandon noted,

"Yeah, I thought taking a definite form would help make the conversation less wierd" it replied,

"Okay, you said, you would tell me more about what I can do, now is the time" Brandon stated,

"Alright, take a seat" it replied conjuring a chair out of thin air,

Though it felt wierd to sit while floating but Brandon made no protest,

"Let's start from the bottom, you are a phoenix. Well a hatchling at this point, right now your skills are limited and rather weak but, still effective if used strategically, now I am going to list the things you can do at least until you evolve" the bird said,

"Yeah, wait!!, Did you say evolve?" Brandon asked shocked,

"Yeah, but don't worry, it can be delayed, if you are in the midst of battle or people, you can hold it in for a while" it explained,

"Okay, but would it change me physically?" Brandon asked,

"Yes, but, not to the point where it would warrant much suspicion, the first evolution usually alters your physical attributes like your strength, speed, stamina, intelligence and also your spiritual energy limit, your 2nd evolution however might alter your physical appearance a bit but it won't be easily noticed, the oldest you can look after an evolution is twenty four(24) years old, but it would take you a while to evolve to that stage" it explained,

"Oh, okay, now the list of my current skills?" Brandon requested,

"Right, here the skills you have for now, both active and passive;

Basic Incineration touch (Active)

Basic Pyrokinesis (Active)

Basic Heat/fire immunity (Passive)

Basic Telekinesis (Active)

Basic regeneration (Passive and Active)

Heat wave (Active)

Basic Core eyes (Active)

I have already transferred my knowledge of these skills to your brain, as you train and evolve, your skills will improve and you gain access to new ones" it explained,

Brandon thought about the skill set given to him, he was familiar with Pyrokinesis, telekinesis and he knew what fire immunity meant but, even with the transferred knowledge, he still had questions,

"Why is the regeneration both active and passive? Also the Incineration touch, how strong is it?" Brandon asked,

"You can control how fast and when you heal and regenerate but if you are in a life threatening condition, your regeneration will automatically kick in as for how strong your Incineration touch is, that's for you to find out" it replied,

"Okay, what about the core eyes skill?" Brandon asked,

"It's like a see through skill, you can see through glamours, illusions, materials e.t.c, the limits are unknown to me so feel free to experiment when you can" it replied,

"Oh, okay I still have one more no, two more questions, what's your name? And what's my affinity?" Brandon asked,

"Hmm, my name, I am known as an intergalactic assistant and your affinity is known as the zodiac affinity, basically, it let's you control any ability or affinity of either human or alien origin though at the moment you can only use one at a time as you evolve, you will be able to control all" the bird replied,

"Okay, Ian, is it okay, it I call you Ian" Brandon asked,

"Sure, anything that suits you" Ian replied,

"Okay, Ian, since you were only put in my subconscious to tell me these things, does that mean you will disappear as soon as I reach my full potential?" Brandon asked,

"No, I will be here till the very end" Ian replied,

These words calmed Brandon a little,

"Okay, could I still continue my meditation in this space?" He asked,

"You already are, you are still controlling your spiritual energy as we speak you can still do it in here, that would be a sort of double meditation but you will feel a bit fatigued afterwards but it does yield great results, your spiritual energy will be more powerful and potent than when you meditate externally alone" Ian replied,

"Cool" Brandon said, he crossed his legs and close his eyes, he suddenly found himself in an empty space surrounded by red flowing energy, looking down he could see a mirror figure of him controlling the energy beneath him,

"Ian, what's this?" Brandon asked,

"This is your spiritual space where your spiritual energy resides, the figure below you is indeed you controlling spiritual energy from the outside" Ian's voice echoed,

"So what do I need to do now?" Brandon asked,

"Just spread out your arms onto the energy around you, let it flow into you, then move it all over your body, let it flow like a river in a carved path, don't hold it back, don't slow it down, just push it forward, the rest will take care of itself, though the flow can be stubborn sometimes" Ian explained,

"Okay, thanks" Brandon said,

He closed his eyes put his hands out into the red flowing energy and opened himself up to it, just like Ian said it was stubborn at first, but after sometime, it flowed willingly into his body, he pushed it in gently at first and when he felt no effect, he pushed with all his strength, he could feel the energy swirling around him but on the outside, it felt like he was dancing on the clouds,

After about 30 minutes, he began to feel tired so he decided to call it a day, he stopped the flow from entering his body and opened his eyes to find Alec meditating opposite him and Bruce beside him, he felt something his his arms, he looked down to see the bowl chips Bruce had placed in front of him as well as the envelope, he quietly stood up to go shower and sneaked back onto the bed once he was done,

He quietly ate the chips as he opened the envelope to see it's content's, he plugged them one by one and uploaded the content to his smart watch, he was surprised to find not just one but seven fire skills and not even the cheap ones, he looked at Bruce wondering how he had gotten them, he read through them thoroughly until Bruce and Alec finished meditating,

"How did your plans go?" Brandon asked,

"Fine, but Bruce probably had more fun" Alec replied,

"Is that so?" Brandon asked with a teasing smile,

"Oh God, take me now" Bruce groaned,

"By the way, how did you get these skills? they are amazing" Brandon asked,

"Oh those were skill drives? Natalie and Isabella bought them, they even wanted to get some for me but there were no techno skills" Bruce replied,

"Really? Why would they even do that?" Brandon asked,

"Knowing Natalie, it's either she likes you or Isabella likes Bruce" Alec replied,

"Natalie liking me is highly unlikely, soooooooo-" Brandon said winking at Bruce,

"Come on, no, nooo, don't say" Bruce said,

"Come on, Bruce, this is a good thing, you should be happy" Brandon said,

"We aren't sure yet, Natalie liking you may be highly unlikely but it's not impossible so let's not get any ideas" Bruce replied.

It was getting late so the boys decided to go to bed.

The next morning, Brandon woke up feeling more rested than ever,

"Wow, it feels like, I slept for a month" he muttered,

He looked around to see Alec still asleep, but Bruce wasn't on his bed, the bathroom door opened and out came Bruce with a towel across his waist and a smaller one across his neck,

"Hmmm, no more hair croissants" Brandon teased,

"Nope, Alec wake up, we don't want to be late" Bruce said,

Brandon was heading into the bathroom to take his bath before Alec got up, as he passed Bruce, he felt someone grabbed his wrist, he turned to see Bruce scanning him from head to toe,

"Do I need to take off my shirt as well?" Brandon teased but Bruce didn't seem to notice,

"Something's different about you, it feels like you grew stronger overnight" Bruce said,

"Really? And here I thought you were just memerized by my morning looks" Brandon said pretending to be hurt,

Bruce smacked him on the wrist,

"Go get ready" He said before proceeding to wake Alec for a second time,

About an hour later, all three boys were out of the dorms, they could see the 2nd and 3rd year students jogging around the school, it seemed like it was a daily routine for them,

On their way to class, they noticed the crater the hooded figure had created when it fell but neither one of them knew of the incident the previous night,

They walked into class, Miss Silver was sitted at her table but she seemed a little distracted, they decided not to bother her and walked quietly past her to their seats, Brandon could feel a pair of eyes glaring at him, he didn't need to turn around to know it was Elvis,

"I Know I said it would be better if you didn't talk to your friend but am beginning to have 2nd thoughts" Brandon said to Alec and they sat,

"Actually, you were right, if I go talk to him for no other reason apart from telling him off your back, I would be putting you in trouble with the other nobles " Alec replied,

"Yeah, Alec's right, the only person that can handle the situation at this point is you" Bruce said,

"I will try to talk to him at lunch" Alec said,

The bell rung and the class organized themselves as Miss Silver stood up to address them,

"Good morning students, I trust you had a lovely night, I would like to inform you that your first expedition will, take place next weekend, this coming Saturday evening, there will be a tournament divided into three categories, the elemental, physical and weapon combats you will be allowed to register for all if you wish, the top ten in each division will be given special rewards and certain privileges, but all in all, it's just a little warm up for the expedition, you should put all your efforts into your practical classes so you can improve, if you perform well on the expedition, you will be given rewards and special privileges as well as good grades, now that is all, you are all dismissed except for Bruce Devin, Brandon Flare and Alexander Benjamin Moore" Miss Silver announced,

"Shit, I hope those fools didn't get Alec in trouble" Elvis said as he left the class,

"Since the tournament has come up, your interviews will be shifted to Friday evening that's two days from now, between now and then, I need you to put your all into training okay, Alec, if by any chance you end up in the same team with either of them, look out for them,that will be all" Miss Silver said,

It looked like she wanted to say more but held back,

"I will leave so you guys can have whatever secret conversation you want to have" Alec said before proceeding to leave the class,

"What secret conversation? It's just a normal teacher student chat" Bruce said,

"I saw his eyes Bruce, yesterday at the gym, when I woke him up, his glowed and they didn't look human at all, so spare me the deceit" Alec said,

"Wait!!" Brandon called stopping Alec,

"So what are you going to do?" He asked,

"Nothing, human or not, you haven't given me any reason not to trust, from the way Bruce always speaks highly of you, you are a good person" Alec replied,

Brandon looked towards Miss Silver, who just let out a deep sigh,

"Alright, get over here, now let me warn you nothing we say in this room must be mentioned to any other leaving being, not even your sister" Miss Silver said as she tapped button that activated a sound barrier around the class,

"I understand ma'am" Alec said,

He was asked to sit down while Brandon retold his story, he also told Bruce and Miss Silver about his last conversation with Ian,

Alec's face took a 180 degree turn from happy to sad, he gave Brandon a hug,

"Whatever happens, I have got your back" He said,

"Thanks we, I appreciate it" Brandon replied,

"Alright, so this Ian guy is in your head? And he has all the answers to your questions?" Miss Silver asked,

"Yeah, but from our conversation, it seems there are some answers I might have to earn" Brandon replied,

"Okay, that's a start at least, we know what we are dealing with now, be careful when choosing what ability or affinity to learn with your extra alot" Miss Silver said,

Brandon nodded, they then left for their next set of classes, as soon as they left the corridor, Elvis came into view,

"What could be so important that, she activated the sound barrier before they could talk about it" He wondered,
