Chapter 13 : The Story And A Brawl

Between personal training and classes, the days flew by and before they knew it, it was Friday, today was the day Brandon and Bruce were to carry out their field assignments for the school newspaper, so they were let out early to speak to the 2nd and 3rd years,

They walked past the 1st year dorms, close to the 2nd and 3rd year dorms was a beautiful lake with green air swans swimming blissfully across as the sun shone beautifully on the lake giving off a reflection,

"Wow, the view here is amazing" Bruce stated,

"Yeah, it's almost like they are living in absolute luxury, look at their dorms" Brandon said pointing in the other direction,

Bruce turned to behold the grand structure that was their senior's dorms, it was basically a large castle when observed from afar but in closer inspection, one could make out other structures on and around it which were used for military drills,

"Well, then let's get on with it" Bruce said striding forward,

Bruce got to the entrance first and rang the bell, as Brandon joined him , he could feel the ground below them was hollow, the next moment they both heard a click sound beneath them, startled they quickly leaped back and simultaneously threw fire and lightening attacks,

"Woah, chill, it was just a simple trap meant to scare you" said a scruffy hair teenager who appeared out of the smoke covered in slight burns and smelling a little like roast and caramel,

"Oh we are so sorry" Bruce apologized,

"It's okay, you guys are oddly observant for first years, no one has ever dodged the trap before" the guy said,

"Told you, you should have oiled the gears" a voice said as the doors opened, a blonde muscular boy of average height stepped through with his shirt wrapped around his neck,

"Where are my manners? Am Nicholas but my friends call me Nick and this shirtless brute is Leonard or Leo for short, we are both 2nd years" Nick explained,

"Am Brandon and this is my friend Bruce, we are from the school newspaper, we were wondering if you and the other seniors would like to share your experience on the frontlines, it's for a school article" Brandon said,

"Sure, but most of the 3rd years are asleep" Nick replied,

"It's alright, we will take what we can get" Bruce replied,

"Okay, then, right this way" Nick said,

They led the juniors to the common room which was a rearranged grand dinning room, there were a few 3rd years but mostly 2nd years,

"Alright, settle down boys, we have guests from the school newspaper" Leo announced,

All eyes immediately turned to the two juniors,

"Good day, my name is Brandon, this is my classmate/ friend Bruce, we are from the Golden Blue, we would like to interview as much of you as we can for an article" Brandon said,

They were offered seats, the seniors introduced themselves, among them was a third year named Levi Sean, two 2nd years Jake and Josh Davison, they were twins, Leonard Davis, a third year and Michael Jackson a 2nd year, there were considered elites among their peers,

"So, what exactly do you want to know? Nick asked,

"Nothing much, just a summarized story of your experience on the frontlines" Bruce replied,

"Oh, do you really want to know?" Levi asked with a flat expression,

"Cut it out , Levi, don't mind him" Leonard said,

"Well, as all wars are , it has it's ups and downs, we have lost so many loved ones that it's all numb now, no tears left to cry" Josh said,

"Wow, take it easy man, we need to say something encouraging" Jake said as he nudged his twin,

"It's alright, the juniors need to know what's really happening" Brandon said,

"Well, there's not much we can tell you due to the stupid ban the government placed" Miracle a 2nd year nudged in,

"Yeah, this is a personal question but, why did you think that is?" Brandon asked,

"If I were to take a guess, they are afraid that if they let the younger generation know what's out there too early, they would run away from the military, now most of them only came here to make a name for themselves, they have no idea of the threats out there" Levi said,

"Makes me wonder why we are even bothering on writing this article" Bruce said,

"Whatever, let's just get it over with" Brandon said,

"How about you guys just tell us the mistakes you feel you made and what you would have done different" Bruce said,

"Okay, I will go first, I think the mistake I made that I deeply regret is not getting to know some of my comrades before they died and I don't mean personally, if we had a better grasp of each others abilities, I am certain we would have made a better team and stood a better chance, some would probably be alive right now" Jake said,

"Same here, and also one crucial thing the juniors need is to trust each other, we are all fighting the same enemy, there no need to fight amongst ourselves" Josh added,

"Yeah, what they said, but it's always best to know your allies aside from your enemies, there will always be certain people who will never trust you so it's best not to bother with them, find your group and stick with them till the very end" Levi said,

"Now that's my kind of advice" Brandon blurted,

They finished the interview and just as they were about to leave , Brandon asked a question that literally shook the entire room,

"Senior Levi, would you please spar with me?" Brandon asked,

The rest almost snapped their necks in shock, Levi was the best of the best, he was a fire mage with lava affinity, and his hand to hand combat skills were no joke,

"Hahahaha, what a funny joke, this kid is really something, come on, Bruce, he's joking right?" Nick asked,

"I wish he was, but sadly that isn't the case here" Bruce replied face palming himself,

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Levi asked,

"Yes, I haven't gotten to go all out in a while" Brandon replied clenching his fists,

"Okay, let's head outside" Levi replied and turned to leave,

"That kid must have a death sentence" one senior said,

"Chill, it's Levi we are talking about, surely, he's sensible enough to go easy on the kid" another replied,

"Well, let's just see out things turn out" a third year said,

They got to a clearing at the back of the dorms, the students present formed a circle around them,

Nick stepped forward to be the referee,

"Alright, only hand to hand combat and ability use is permitted, now take your places and fight" Nick announced,

Levi just stood still urging Brandon to make the first move,

Brandon bolted straight towards Levi, when he was within striking distance, Levi aimed a fast strike for his head, Brandon anticipated this and responded with a low back flip and a kick aimed Levi's neck, the latter quickly raised his arm to block the kick,

"Nice, you are not that bad" Levi said with a light chuckle,

He decided to go on the offensive, he lunged at Brandon, aiming punches at non vitals with full strength, Brandon managed to doged and even block some but an upper cut sent him flying backwards but, he made a flip in mid air and landed on his feet, small gasp could be heard in the crowd,

Brandon wasted no time in launching his own punches, he launched a kick at Levi's leg, Levi jumped avoiding the attack but like a honing missile, Brandon's legs followed suit, they caught Levi's legs in mid air and with a swift flip, Levi came crashing into the ground,

Levi got up dusting himself whilst laughing,

"Wow, you have got fire kid, but let's see if it can match mine" Levi said , he created fire balls and threw them at Brandon, They were fast and hot, Brandon still got a slight burn even though he dodged them,

By the time he recovered, Levi was already on top of him, with a fist covered in flames,

"Shit, but I can get out of this" Brandon thought to himself, during the past few days, Brandon had learned and mastered the skills Natalie got him,

He's body lit up and he swirled so fast it created a crimson red fire cyclone forcing Levi to retreat far back,

"Flame cyclone alpha" Bruce muttered,

"Wait, isn't than an advanced basic skill?" Leo asked,

"Yeah, it only took him a few hours to learn" Bruce said,

Leo stood there dumbfounded, Bruce had no idea what his statement caused,

The moment the fire cyclone died out, Brandon was nowhere to be found, Levi suddenly felt a huge amount of heat come at him from above, he managed to duck out at the last moment, a small crater was formed where he ealier stood, looking up, he could see two bright flaming wings,

"Alright this is getting tiring, time to end it"Levi said, he released flames from his hands launching him into the air, while in mid air he threw several fire balls at Brandon who managed to dodge them, but once he looked to where Levi was he couldn't spot him, the next thing he knew he was falling to the ground like an atomic bomb, he quickly spread out his fire wings to slow down his fall but he still fell with a thud,

" Well, at least it slowed down my fall a bit" Brandon groaned as his legs ached,

He didn't have much time to recover as Levi came crashing down on him, causing an even larger crater in the ground, the moment the dust cleared, everyone was prepared to see a defeated Brandon but we shocked to see that he had somehow turned his wings into a lava shield, one could see he was almost at his limit, Levi was also panting and a bit disoriented, it was a rare sight for the seniors,

Whilst Levi was still disoriented, he dispersed the shield and went with a flaming kick hitting Levi square in the chin,

Brandon was now stumbling, his vision was getting blurry but he refused to give up,

"I knew this would happen, Nick you need to stop the fight" Bruce said,

"Alright, that's enough, flights over" Nick announced,

But neither Levi nor Brandon listened to him, they both steadied themselves and laughed at each other,

As they were about to intercept each other, a flash of lightening flash past Nick's side, he turned to notice Bruce wasn't there anymore,

"ENOUGH!!" Bruce yelled as he clapped his hands together releasing a wave if lightening that knocked the two fighters over,

"Sorry about the ruckus, we will be leaving now" Bruce said, he walked up to Brandon with a sigh,

"I hope you were satisfied" he said as he helped his friend to his feet,

"Yeah, I feel a bit funny though, anyways, you never told me you mastered the thunder clap" Brandon said,

"Yeah, it was meant to be a surprise, anyways let's get going, am starving, you probably are too" Bruce replied,

They walked away amist the bewilderment of the crowd,

"They are monsters, the both of them" Nick exclaimed,

"If even a handful of his classmates are like them I would say humanity now has a real fighting chance" Leo said,

"Argh, that boy is no human, trust me in that, I saw his watch he's just approaching C rank and he already that strong"Levi said getting up,

"Wow, that kid really did a number on you" Nick chuckled,

"Ha ha, laugh it up, I don't see you fairing any better " Levi said,

They crowd gathered around Levi, although they all witnessed it but they still wanted to hear what Levi had to say,

"Sorry, no time for chit chat, am tired" Levi said before casually walking into the dorms,

Form his room window, he could see the silhouette of the two boys as they got to the main grounds,

"Hmmm, I will have my eye on you two from today" Levi said, he gripped his jaw, it still ached from Brandon's final hit,

"I had better go get a healer" Levi said to himself,

Meanwhile as Brandon and Bruce went straight to the gym locker rooms where Brandon took a shower and changed into his gym clothes, they went straight to the register to drop off their report, they didn't expect to meet Miss Silver there,

"You made quite a scene at the senior's dorms" She stated,

"Sorry, Miss, I was just itching for a good fight" Brandon apologized,

"Well, still you both made a standing impression on them, I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the talk of the Schools Levi Sean was no ordinary 3rd year, his dad is even on the school board" Miss Silver said with a slight smile, she now had something to brag about to other teachers,

"Anyways, go see your friends, they might be at the library, they came here looking for you guys a few minutes ago,

"Oh okay, thanks Miss" Brandon said before they ran off,

"How could you have grown this much stronger from just one fight?" Miss Silver gasped as the door closed behind them
