Chapter 6 : Dramatic Week

The week flew by fast and before they knew it, it was Friday evening, during the course of the week, Brandon and Bruce didn't get harassed by any other bullies and even helped Miss Silver bring the Blue River register back to life, they published articles about a different assortment of things and were even registered in a school news register competition against other schools, Miss Silver's attitude seemed to improve around them not that she acknowledged it.

The moment the bell rang for closing, the excited students made way for the door but found it to be locked, they turned to Miss Silver with confused expressions,

"Get back to your seats students, we have been instructed to give you a pre-abiltiy control tutorial class" Miss Silver announced,

The students grudgingly made their way back to their seats, they were already looking forward to a lazy weekend,

"Now the first thing I want to teach you all is basic magic summoning, the moment you awaken your ability and affinity, you will gain access to your spiritual energy, which you will need to make use of your ability, do you understand so far?" She asked,

"Yes, ma'am" They replied,

"Good, now having access to your spiritual energy is one thing but, controlling it in order to use your ability is another which is why we advice students to practice meditation, it in not only strengthens improves the potency of your spiritual energy, it improves the body structure to be able to absorb and accommodate more spiritual energy"She explained, she noticed a girl had her hand raised,

"Ask your question little one" She said,

"Ma'am, if we run out of spiritual energy, what happens then? And how can we recover it?" The girl asked,

"Good question, to answer the first, if you do run out of spiritual energy, you would simply be unable to use your ability although,one never truly runs out but, if you push yourself too far while using your ability, you might end up damaging your body to a point where you can't absorb spiritual energy anymore" She explained,

The sound of terrified gasp filled the air, for some be unable to use their ability either meant being cast out by their family or becoming a primal but, it was most likely both,

"And to your second question, you can recover your spiritual energy sometimes by resting, meditating or consuming low-high grade silver grapes which is faster but less pure than atmospheric spiritual energy and so is advised to be used only during emergencies" She added,

The students began murmuring amongst themselves but stopped once they noticed Miss Silver conjure up a water ball,

"Now, to use your ability you need to be one with your spiritual energy, learn to control the flow then externally manifest it like so" she explained as she swirled the water ball around the class,

"Wow, she seems really good" Bruce commented,

"Yeah, but it's just a water ball though" Brandon replied which earned a chuckle from Miss Silver,

The water ball hover above Brandon's head, he looked at Miss Silver with a pleading expression as if saying 'please don't' but alas, with the flick of a wrist, the water ball came down on Brandon, causing the whole class to burst into laughter,

"That's enough" Miss Silver warned,

"That's all for today, make sure you are dressed well for tomorrow's awakening ceremony and be reminded that the children of the noble families who haven't joined you but are in your year will join you tomorrow, the other first year students from the other classes will be there too, stay together don't get mixed up in the wrong year" She added.

The students swarmed out, they were hyped and excited about the next day, some were already guessing what abilities they or their friends might awaken,

Brandon and Bruce, stay a moment" Miss Silver called out,

Once all the other students left, she syphoned the water out if Brandon's clothes and threw it out the window,

"How are you guys feeling about tomorrow?" She asked,

"Nervous " Bruce replied,

"Me too, it's a big day for everyone" Brandon added,

"Don't sweat it, but do bear in mind that from tomorrow onward, school's going to get a whole lot tougher than before, the truce with the foreign races is coming to an end and the government wants to be ready when that happens, so during lunch breaks while at the register I will be personally training you for the first thirty minutes of your lunch period, understood?" She explained,

"Yes, ma'am" they replied,

"Any of luck I'm finding out how you did what you did on Monday?" She asked facing Brandon,

"Unfortunately not, I still not sure what I even did" Brandon replied with a sigh,

"You have become a lot nicer these days ma'am" Bruce commented,

"Say that again and I will give you a steam bath , and not the good kind" Mis Sver replied causing him to gulp,

"You may leave" she added,

They went back to their dorm room to take a shower, they looked at the third bed in the corner that has been empty the whole week,

"It seems our last roommate is a noble" Bruce said bluntly,

"I seriously hope it's not someone like Rick, that would just be a huge headache for us" Brandon replied,

"By the way, I need to stop by the supply store to get some things, do you want to come?" Bruce stated,

"Yeah, sure, though I should probably thank Miss Silver for giving me those guys' allowances for the week, I now have over a thousand credits" Brandon replied,

"Cool, too bad there isn't anything worth spending it on at the supply except for supplies which are actually pretty cheap" Bruce said,

"Yeah, maybe when we go on expeditions, we might get to visit some shops in the area" Brandon replied,

"Alright, let's get going, I want to be gone and back as soon as possible" Bruce stated,

"You are still scared about what happened on Monday?" Brandon asked as he put his casual green shirt on,

"Maybe and should you be wearing green clothes? your hair is a marker on it's own" Bruce chuckled,

"Let's just go" Brandon said as he head for the door.

They got to the supply store bought some toiletries and snacks without any trouble but, on their way back, Brandon noticed they were being followed,

"Don't look back but we are being followed" Brandon whispered to Bruce,

"Couldn't they just leave us alone" Bruce groaned silently,

They increased their pace towards the dorms in attempt to loose their follower but they were persistent,

"Looks like we can't lose them, let's just hope we get to the dorm before they make a move" Brandon said,

Just as Brandon finished his statement, seven familiar yet unfamiliar faces surrounded them, they dropped their stuff in preparation for a fight,

"You guys again, Miss Silver won't be happy about this" Bruce warned,

"Oh don't worry about that we have already made plans so she can't hurt us this time" Bob said with a devilish grin,

Brandon looked around trying to weigh his odds of beating them, he and Bruce had been training in the gym after school hours,

"I hope you are not still sore from last time, I don't want to have to hold back today" Bob added,

"What exactly do you want?" Brandon asked sternly,

"Oh, seems you still have that cocky tone of yours, I wonder if you will have that attitude once we turn your friend here into our personal punching bag, if hurting you can't give us your fear maybe hurting him will" Bob replied with a dark chuckle,

Brandon felt his blood boil at the mention of hurting Bruce , he was still angry at Bob and his friend for the last encounter, he knew fully well they might both not come out of it unscathed, he was so angry he didn't notice the color change in his eyes, they had gone from a calm green color to a fierce orange color,

Bob and his didn't notice this either, they were busy laughing and mocking the look of defeat he had on his face earlier on,

"Alright you two hold the broccoli head, the rest of us will deal with little blue over here" Bob snickered,

But the moment they stepped towards Bruce, the air around them changed, it was no longer the cool pre- winter air they felt before, it now felt like they were standing beside a volcano,

"What's going on? Is Miss Silver close by?" One boy asked in panic,

"It can't be, it's probably some other teacher practicing nearby so let's make it quick" Bob said to calm his group,

Bruce noticed Brandon's demeanor had changed,

"Hey, is everything alright?" He asked concerned,

"I won't let them hurt you" Brandon said, it was at this moment that Bruce caught a glimpse of his eyes but before he could say anything, he could see a ball of air gathering between Brandon's arms, the other kids noticed this as well,

"WHAT!!!how cou-" Bob never got to finish his statement, Brandon pressed the ball of air into the ground causing it to explode outwards around him and Bruce flinging the guys in different directions,

Brandon looked at his hands unable to comprehend what he just did,

"We look forward to your allowances for another week unless you want us to tell Miss Silver about this little encounter" Bruce said,

The barely conscious group nodded with desperation, they feared Brandon would attack them again if they didn't agree,

"Come on, man let's go" Bruce said as he carried his shopping back, Brandon picked his and they both left the scene,

Little did they know a guardian angel was watching them from afar off,

"So it only happens when someone he cares about is involved, interesting at least I didn't have to interfere this time" She said to herself,

Meanwhile, the moment Brandon and Bruce got into their room, they hurriedly locked the door,

"Dude, that was so cool, they were like 'we will beat you up' and you were like swoosh and bam they were flying in different directions" Bruce chatted excitedly,

"Shouldn't we be concerned about how I did it?" Brandon asked,

"Don't be such a buzz kill, we survived an encounter with that Fatty's group, although I wonder why no other groups have approached us" Bruce stated as he pat Brandon's shoulder,

"Either they are waiting for the awakening ceremony or the want things to die down a bit" Brandon replied,

"Wait you just used air to defend us maybe that means you will awaken an air ability" Bruce said curiosly,

"What? No, I definitely hope not to awaken an air ability" Brandon protested,

"Whatever, your eyes have gone back to normal " Bruce noted,

"My eyes? What happened to them before?" Brandon asked,

"They changed to this fierce orange color before you shazamed those guys" Bruce chuckled still feeling excited,

"Okay, we fill Miss Silver in tomorrow". Brandon said,

"Wait, you want to tell her? What if she's just spying on us for the military?" Bruce asked,

"Look me in the eyes and tell me you really believe that, she could have lost her job when she stood up for us, spy or no spy, she's my best bet at finding out what's happening with me" Brandon countered,

"Alright, I guess she is kinda trustworthy" Bruce replied,

He looking through his groceries when a pillow came at his face, he looked up at Brandon who had a mischievous look on his face,

"Oh, you are on" Bruce giggled as he grabbed a pillow and began chasing Brandon around the room.

The next morning, the streams of sunlight from the window woke Brandon from his slumber, he looked at the mess they made The previous day and decided to start cleaning up, Bruce was still on the floor asleep with a half eaten chocolate bar on his chest,

"Wake up, you food monger" Brandon teased as he dropped a bag of chips on Brandon's face,

"I shall humbly accept this offering of chips but you are going to have to do better than that to get me up on a Saturday morning" Bruce said,

"It's 10 in the morning, the awakening starts in two hours, our new roommate will probably be here in an hour, now get up and help me clean" Brandon said,

"Right, let's get to it, first impressions last longer" Bruce stated,

"Wait, are you seriously more worried about our new roomie than the awakening ceremony?" Brandon asked surprised,

"No, I just to don't want to look bad on the first day" Bruce defended himself,

"Whatever you say bro" Brandon replied,

Sure enough an hour later, they was a knock at the door, at the time The two boys had already arranged the room, showered and dressed presentable as per Bruce's suggestions, they opened the door and we're suprised to see Alec,

"Sup guys, am the new roommate sorry for not coming earlier, the family wanted daily updates on school progress" Alec said as he walked in,

He placed his things in this cupboard and turned around to find Brandon and Bruce still at the door,

"Is something wrong guys?" He asked,

"No, nooo, we are just surprised we got the nice noble" Bruce replied,

"We are?" Brandon asked with a raised brow,

"It's okay of you don't trust me at the moment, trust is something that has to be earned" Alec said with a low tone,

Brandon sighed, he remembered what Bruce said about their family still not trusting them, he walked towards Alec who was unsure what was happening but, was surprised to be pulled into a bro hug,

"Sorry about the cold shoulder, things haven't exactly been peaceful for us but, I shouldn't be taking it out on you" Brandon apologized,

"It's okay, I heard about what Bob and his gang tried on monday, sorry I couldn't help" Alec replied,

"We still have a few minutes before we have to go to class, about we get to know each other" Bruce suggested,

They nodded and began chatting, during the course of the conversation they learnt that Alec loved video games practised martial arts like Brandon and was a decent sports jocky,

"Alright, we better get to class" Brandon stated, he showed them the time it was 11:44 AM,

They walked to class together, alot of students steered clear if them,

"If it bothers you guys, I could walk behind you" Alec said,

"Don't be silly, it's not like they would usually talk to us" Brandon replied,

They got to class, it was already filled it seems they were the last ones to arrive,

"Go and take your seats boys" Miss Silver said,

An empty seat was spotted beside Brandon's so Alec decided to sit there,

"Now the awakening ceremony will start, shortly, you need to be on your best behavior and stay together, the ceremony proceeds class by class, we are year one class B, the moment the clock strikes noon, make your way to the Large arena by the administrative building M, that will be all for now" She said before leaving the class,

"Come on, Bruce let's go to the register" Brandon said,

"Sure, Alec don't go anywhere we will be right back" Bruce replied,

Alec just nodded, they left the class and hurried to catch up with Miss Silver,

"Whatever progress report you want to deliver, it can wait till after the ceremony, we teachers have a lot of work to do" she stated,

"I already know what you want to tell me" she chuckled inwardly,

They went back to the class to find their seats occupied by two dudes they hadn't seen before, they were talking to Alec who didn't seem interested in the conversation,

"Do you mind moving from our seats?" Brandon asked politely,

They guys looked at themselves and laughed,

"You heard him, scram" Alec oredered jolting the guys in fear, they hurriedly left for their seats,

"Thanks but, you didn't have to do that" Brandon said,

"It's nothing, besides those guys were too

annoying" Alec replied,

"It's time, let's go, looks like we didn't even need to sit down" Bruce said,

They left for the awakening ceremony, the hall was beautifully decorated with crystal chandeliers , the craftsmanship of the pillars were exquisite,

"Wow, one would think we are here for a wedding" Brandon exclaimed,

"Welcome students please take your seats, the ceremony will begin shortly" A voice said through the speakers,

The hall was filled to the brim In a span of 5 minutes,

It was now time for the awakening ceremony to begin, a man walked up on the stage in front of the hall where there was a giant orb to his right and a giant crystal to his left,

"Now, the rule is simple , you come up here and place your right hand on this orb and left on this crystal, the orb will awaken your ability and the crystal, your affinity, although not all of you will unlock affinities but that doesn't make you any less of a mage than the rest" the man said,

The year one Class A did theirs, they're were gasps of suprise, disappointment among others, it was finally time for Brandon's class,

"Brandon Flare, come to the altar" the man said,

"You have got this bro" Bruce said,

Brandon walked to the altar and placed his hands on the orb and crystal, the orb lit up to a bright crimson red color,

"You have awakened a Fire ability" the man said in a shaky voice,

"How in earth those this boy have the phoenix flame?" The man panicked inwardly,

When he turned to look at the crystal, he was shocked at what he was seeing,

"How?" Was all he could say
