Chapter 7. : The Zodiac Affinity

The auditorium was silent for a few minutes, the old man seemed to be shivering with fear and had yet to say anything about Brandon's affinity, the crystal had lit up with a rainbow color with a yellow hue around it,

"Sir, is something wrong?" Brandon asked quietly,

"Hmm, just return to your seat for now" the old man finally said after a few seconds,

"I must warn my Lord about this child, he might become a threat to the foreign race, we must get rid of him" the old man mumbled to himself,

Brandon nervously obliged, he walked back to his seat amist the stares and murmurs of the students in his year,

"What did you think happened?" One student whispered,

"Maybe, he couldn't get an affinity" another replied,

"But the crystal lit up" a third student chirped in,

"Yeah, but it didn't have a specific form like how it did for the others" the first replied,

"Silence, next person Alexander Benjamin Moore" the old man yelled,

Alec gave Brandon a pat on the back before moving towards the platform, he placed one hand on the orb which lit up with a bright red color but not as bright or fierce as Brandon's, he proceeded to place his other hand on the crystal which lot up with an orange color in form of a fluid,

"You unlocked the affinity for lava" the Old man announced,

Alec made his way back to his seat,

"Hey, Brandon, how are you feeling?" Alec whispered,

"Confused, annoyed, embarrassed, you want me to keep going?" Brandon replied, sarcasm accompanying his every word,

"Don't fret buddy, new affinities are still being discovered" Bruce said calmly,

"Yeah, maybe once you have trainiled your ability well enough, it will reveal itself l" Alec added,

"Yeah, maybe" Brandon sighed,

"Bruce Devin" called the old man,

"Looks like am up, wish me luck" Bruce said,

He stepped onto the podium, placed his hand on the orb, it lit up with a pixelated blue color causing some gasp from the crowd,

"Techno mages are exceeding rare, train this ability well young man" the old man said,

"I will" Bruce replied with a smile,

He placed his other hand on the crystal, a blue color with white crack lines emaneted from it,

"Lightening as an affinity, this generation seems to be filled with talent" the old said,

Bruce happily walked back to his seat,

"Congrats bro" Alec said,

"See I told you so, we ought to have placed a bet" Brandon chuckled,

"A bet on what?" Alec asked feeling lost,

"Oh, don't mind him, he's just acting smugg because he made a prediction of my ability and affinity which I doubted but came true" Bruce replied not looking Brandon in the eye,

"Hey, seems like your sister's up next" Bruce nudged Alec,

"Why not try your predictions on her?" Alec asked,

"Okay, I would say she would have an Ice ability with a snow affinity" Brandon replied scratching his chin,

Isabella placed her hand on the orb which shone with a bright blue color that swirled fiercely around the orb, at first they thought it was an water ability until.

"An Ice ability" The old man anounced,

The whole whole erupted with murmurs and whispers, not just because this was one of the rarest abilities but also because Isabella came from a family of prominent Fire mages,

"Silence!!!!!!" The old man yelled to stop the ruckus,

The crowd quieted down as the ceremony continued,

"So you and your sister and like counter parts now, fire and ice" Brandon chuckled,

"Wow, you are good, how did you know?" Alec asked,

"Intuition, I guess" Brandon replied,

A grumbling sound reached their ears causing them to turn towards Bruce,

Their eyes met causing them to burst into silent laughs,

"Dude, don't tell me you are hungry!" Brandon chuckled,

"The body wants what the body wants" slightly embarrassed,

The ceremony is still going to last about two hours, during which the children of other nobles will arrive and we will be given some basic ability techniques books to practice" Alec explained causing Bruce to groan,

Once the students were done, the old man held out a long note in his hand and turned to address the students once more,

"Students I would like you all with applause to welcome the ten descendants from respective noble families that have decided to go or us by attending our school, coming in alphabetical order, Elvis Presley, descendant of lord Kelvin of house Presley, their family produce the most powerful lightening mages" the old man stated,

A young boy with a low cut white hair walked in, dressed from head to toe in expensive attire, he walked elegantly to the stage and was pointed to seat beside Alec,

This of course startled Brandon and Bruce,

"Do you know him?" Bruce asked,

"Yeah, his mom and my mom are best friends, so we have hanged out a couple of times" Alec replied, it was obvious from his tone that he was not too pleased,

"Am guessing he's not as humble as you" Brandon chimmed,

"Not even close, in elementary school he nearly has a kid expelled just because she sat beside me" Alec said,

"Woah, sounds like bad news" Bruce stated,

"Feel free to avoid me like a plague from now on" Alec sighed,

"Do you always push people away when danger's near?" Brandon asked sarcastically,

To which Alec simply chuckled,

"Well, here comes a hurricane " Alec said as Elvis approached them, the other students quickly paved way for him,

He sat quietly next to Alec and looked over to Brandon and Bruce, pride eminent in his eyes to which the two boys ignored, furious but not wanting to cause a scene he faced the altar as the other noble's descendants were introduced,

"Next, Natalie Stormborn, 3rd child and only daughter of Lady Sharon of house Stormborn, the nobles of Lightning,

Brutus Ashira, first son of Lord Maxwell of house Ashira from which prominent Earth mages have been produced,

Juliana Lucas, first daughter of Lord Martin of house Lucas, the most fierce water mages are never in short supply in this noble family,

Elena Dareiene, daughter of the Lord Gabriel, younger brother to Lord Tyler, head of house Dareiene otherwise known as the house of fire due to their formidable prowess with the fire element,

Dominik Pavla, Child of light, 2nd son of Lady Diane, interim head of house Pavla, the house of light,

Xena Renato, first daughter of Lord Marvin, head of house Renato, the home of the Silent assassins,

Angelo Zidan, son of Lord Eliot of House Zidan, the home of the Skywalker's, they have never seized to produce strong telekinetic mages,

Maya Jordan, only child of Lord Adan of house Jordan, they are one with mother nature, there nature abilities are always unparalleled,

And last but not the least, Maley Rodriguez, last child of Lord Taurus of house Rodriguez, the house of sound, they produce the best spys in the world" the old man announced,

After their names were mentioned, they were welcomed with applause from the other students, some due to admiration others due to order, most of them were all dressed in lavish attires showing off their family wealth, Brandon seemed to notice that Natalie wasn't particular comfortable in her's, her hands kept twitching at the dress,

About one and a half hours later, the awakening was done, the old man left the stage and a young lady took the the stand,

"Good afternoon students, I will be your element master in the days to come, my name is Emma Rose, our classes shall be updated on the school timetable but that's not why I am on the podium, we have been given some ability techniques to share amongst you so please form a single file and come get yours" She announced,

The students all came out and we're given books, Brandon who was patiently waiting for his turn began to feel like he was being watched, he turned to catch the old man from earlier staring intently at him, the man looked away as soon as their eyes met.

Once the distribution was done, the students were allowed to leave,

"Hey, guys wanna meet some of my friends?" Alec asked,

"You want to introduce us to other nobles? That doesn't sound like a good idea " Bruce replied wearily,

"Yeah, Rick alone was a huge headache" Brandon replied,

"Come on guys, I promise they are not like Rick or Elvis, as long as they know you are hard working individuals they won't look down on you" Alec explained,

"Fine, but one wrong move on their side and we are out of here" Brandon said,

"Just keep your endurance up" Alec sighed,

"Hurricane approaching" Bruce said in a playful robotic voice causing the other two to chuckle, they knew he was referring to Elvis,

"What's up bro? Wanna go explore the school with me?" Elvis asked ignoring the presence of the other two,

Maybe later, I want to go say hi to some friends, come on guys let's go before they disperse" Alec replied pulling Brandon and Bruce towards where the other nobles were,

Elvis was astonished,

"Did he just decline me because of those two filthy creatures?" He said with anger brewing inside but just then Isabella walked passed him,

"Isabella darling, how are you? It's been so long" Elvis cooed causing Isabella to flinch,

"Am good, have you seen my brother? I last saw him in the stands with his friends before we were dismissed" Isabella asked,

"Friends? they are his friends? Regardless, why don't you and I go for a walk? I promise it will be worth your while" Elvis replied with a flirtatious gaze,

Isabella raised a brow at Elvis, trying her best to hide the disgust she felt,

"Isabella, come over, Natalie's asking after you" She heard Alec call,

"Oh sorry Elvis, I have to" she said as she slipped away from him,

"Never have I been happier to have a brother" she mumbled to herself,

"Hey Isabella, I have missed you so much, your brother was introducing us to his friends but then I noticed you were nowhere to be found" Natalie said as she pulled Isabella into a hug, she pulled Isabella away from the group so they could have some girl talk,

"Yeah sorry, I felt I needed to distance myself from them" Isabella replied,

"Wait, are they weak mages using your brother for protection? Because if they are I can fix that" Natalie whispered,

"No, they are in no way weak, that green haired kid would have probably been ranked same as Alec if it weren't some reaction his body had to the gas and the blue haired one isn't far behind and he even has the intelligence to boost" Isabella explained,

"Then why do you feel the need to distance yourself from them?" Natalie asked,

Isabella just looked at the floor, past memories began resurfacing, memories she wished she could forget, a tear fell down her face startling Natalie,

"Is this because of what happened with Eric?" She asked softly,

Isabella nodded slowly,

"I can't say I understand how you feel, I would be lying if I said so but, you can't change the past why bother trying to avoid confronting those feelings, I know you can overcome them" Natalie said gently,

"How can I? What I did could have ended my family, if Alexander hadn't caught Eric at the right moment, he would killed more than half my family" Isabella said sobbing,

"I know you feel guilty about it, this is exactly why I asked my mum to convince your uncle to let you see a therapist but they refused, listen, not every guy you meet will be like Eric and you won't even know for certain if you don't open up to new people, you made a mistake, and that's a fact you can't deny but you can still come out of it by learning from this mistakes" Natalie said,

She pulled Isabella into another hug and patted her gently on the back, before whispering,

"Let other people in, for my sake if not yours"

Isabella wiped her and looked back at the boys who seemed to be getting along well especially Angelo and Brandon,

She glanced at Bruce to find him looking in their direction while talking to Maya, as soon as their eyes met he gave her a nervous wave, she waved back which caught Bruce by suprise,

"Alright, lets converge with the gang" Natalie said as she pulled Isabella back to the group,

They left for the school gardens for the evening where they chatted round a calm fire.

Trouble was brewing for Brandon, the old man who coordinated the awakening ceremony who was known as Sir Briam Eliot was making his way to his private quarters, the moment he got in, he locked the doors and out up a sound proof ward before retrieving a blood red crystal from a box beside his bed, he made a small cut in his hand and let the blood fall in the crystal which floated ominously in the air before projecting a shadowy figure, Briam's figure began to shift and change into the form of a tall, skinny one horned demon,

"Why have you contacted me zalgon?" Said the shadowy figure,

"My Lord, there's a boy, he has the phoenix flame" the old man stuttered,

"How? They are extinct, the phoenix can only be possessed by those who are either bestowed with it by the phoenixs themselves or is a phoenix itself" the figure's voice boomed acrosd the room knocking over some items around,

"Sir, that's not all, his affinity, it's ---it's" zalgon stuttered,

"It's what? Speak before I lose my patience " the figure yelled angrily,

It's the zodiac affinity" Zalgon replied in a shaky voice,

"The Zodiac affinity? interesting, keep an eye on him, It seems it was a good idea to have You disguise as Briam Elliot" the figure replied and disappeared,

Underneath the floorboards of the room laid the rooten remains of the real Briam Elliot, Zalgon was the demon tasked with killing and taking his role in the school,

"Why does trouble always come my way?" Zalgon groaned before shape shifting back into Briam.
